There are so many different tailors one can find in Edison but there was one I was recommended. Driving down Laguardia Ave, parallel to Oak Tree Road, I was able to find the tiny parking lot leading to the entrance of Alankar. Inside you'll find someone to take your order and measurements, while three people inside sew. There are pre-stitched blouses that are gorgeous but you'll pay close to ~$100 for them. When you go in with your materials (i.e. fabric), a man behind the counter to go over the design you want and then take your measurements. He'll give you a piece of paper afterwards that corresponds to your ticket number. Although paper signs inside suggest a cash payment prior to your order, you can come back and pay with cash when you come to pick up. Depending on your order, I was able to pick up my blouses after two weeks. When I went in, I handed him my ticket number for him to find my order, paid the cash and tried on the blouses. If there are any minor adjustments to make, a seamstress is right there to take in the bust a few inches so you're ready to walk out the door with your items. I found the measurements are a bit generic so that when I did go to pick up my items, there were quite a few areas they had to go back and tighten (i.e. the bust area and the arms) which seemed to be a pattern since I went with three other people. Although it took a few times, they finally got the blouses to where they were perfect. You just need to work with them. I'll probably bring my blouses there again.

My shoulders and underarms are all cut up from this blouse. Too tight. Please read my review for more

This is my second time coming to this place and this is the second time I've been highly disappointed. I will never be coming back here and really don't recommend anyone else coming here either. 1- the staff is really rude. When I was not happy with what they gave me they told me I gave them the measurements and that's how they sewed it. When in reality, I told them the design i wanted... And THEY took my measurements. Instead of asking how they could fix it suddenly it was all my fault. 2 - overpriced for shitty work. I was charged 55 dollars. 45 for the blouse, 5 dollars for the asthar and 5 for cups. The cups they put in the blouse were not only lopsided - But placed incredibly low. If i am paying 55 dollars i should get the design that I asked for and it should be really good work. I had to open up the blouse and cut the cups out because it was lopsided and did not even sit at my bust line 3 - I did not get the design I asked for. My design was so simple I do not know how it did not come out how I wanted it. I had no ties in my design yet I was returned a blouse with ties. I asked for the arm holes to be bigger and was given a blouse that was so tight I had to cut it Midway thru the wedding ceremony (I was a bridesmaid) I have bruises and scratches all over my shoulders and underarms because of this. I know that sequins is not the most comfortable fabric but there were 10 other girls in the bridal party with the same blouse (stitched from other places) I paid the most for my blouse and I was the ONLY one who was so irritated by the Blouse. The other tailors did a really good job at working with the material and trying to do things to make it more comfortable to wear. It is the day after the wedding and my arms are still in pain from wearing this blouse it was an absolute nightmare additionally, where the closure is they folded the sequins in! A huge one inch strip of bare sequins scratching up against my skin. Luckily I had enough time to sew a piece of fabric over the strip myself. 4- I attribute alot of these issues to the fact that the person who takes ur measurements and design is not even a tailor. So the tailor only gets what that man writes and draws and things get lost in translation. It is very unprofessional. 5- they take the money upfront, so it doesn't seem like they care about the quality of their work. They don't care if the customer is happy with the finish product. They've already been paid. If you don't like it basically it's your problem to deal with I normally don't write reviews on yelp. Or such terrible reviews for places but I am just so disgusted with the level of rudeness and unprofessional work that I had to warn others to stay away from this place.

Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The seamstress was not there when I dropped of the coat, they said that she will look and see if she can fix it and let me know by phone. I then find out that she "fixed" my coat without consulting me first, claiming the repair was necessary for the dry cleaning process. In doing so, she actually made the tear worse and ended up ruining the coat. When I tried to address the issue with the staff, the situation only got worse. The employees became defensive, rude, and belligerent. The interaction escalated to the point where I felt uncomfortable and unsafe in the store, as two male associates were behaving aggressively. I haven't even evaluated the quality of the dry cleaning yet, but at this point it's hard to say the service was worth the cost of a ruined $400 coat and the unpleasant treatment I received. It's especially disappointing because I had hoped I'd found a reliable dry cleaning and tailoring service close to home.

This was an absolute nightmare!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!…read more I was promised my lengha ( which I purchased at a nearby store and was expensive) would be ready in 3 weeks, a deadline THEY set. When I showed up to collect it, not only was the job incomplete, there was an AWFUL smell coming from my lengha AND I FOUND STAINS ON MY BRAND NEW OUTFIT!! THEY asked me to come back the next day and that they would fix it. I returned on Sunday--and the work was still incomplete!!! I tried on my outfit and it was still not fitted and had a lot of issues. After pointing out all the issues AGAIN, I was then asked to give them 30 minutes more, when I went back (now for a 3rd time) - IT WAS STILL NOT DONE, I was very upset and just ended up taking my outfit as is because this is just beyond ridiculous at this point. During my 3 visits in 2 days, every time I tried to address these issues, the tailor became openly hostile, raising their voice at me and my friends. Their behavior was unacceptable. I had to demand that they lower their voice when speaking to me. I had to bargain to reduce the price since the work WAS NOT COMPLETED and the wife and husband CONTINUED TO BE AGGRESSIVE AND HOSTILE. They raised their voice and said that they would unstitch my outfit if I did not pay... The store owner of where I brought my lengha from even called and told him that this is unacceptable and he was charging me too much. The tailor started to raise his voice at him and the female manager of the other store. This business operates without a shred of professionalism, respect, or accountability. Their treatment of customers is beyond disgraceful. If you care about your clothing and want to be treated decently, avoid this place at all costs!!!!!! THEY ARE THE WORST! PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND SAVE YOURSELF FROM A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

We've gotten everything from minor alterations (loosening outfits, adding lining to sleeves) to stitching full outfits (peeku on dupatta, sewing shalwar or straight pants or churidaar, or even tulip pants!) His work is impeccable. For unstitched outfits, he'll stitch them to your specifications, everything from sleeve style to neck shape. I would trust him with any of my desi clothes but I would go elsewhere for any American/western clothing. My other bone to pick would be that because his work is so in demand, you really have contact him regularly before you need your clothes to ensure that he delivers on time. Or even better, tell him that you need the clothes earlier than you actually do. Not knocking off a star because considering how in demand he is, the wait comes with the territory and he is excellent at what he has specialized in -- Pakistani clothes. TL;DR his work on Pakistani clothes is fantastic, and I would go to him and only to him only for these.

I requested for the saree blouse to be completed the same day as I had an event and was in a rush. He said that was not possible as he was really busy. I offered to pay 3x the price to have it rushed and was told that it takes time and he could not have it done. He offered to have it done by 10 am 5/24 to which I agreed as it would give me time before the event. However when I showed up at 4:30 on 5/24 to pick up the blouse (A because I got busy and B because I felt bad for rushing him and wanted to give him time just in case) only to come in for the blouse to not be finished and for him to just now sit down to stitch the blouse. What a load of nonsense. He keeps trying to reassure me that it will only take ten minutes. Where was this energy yesterday? For the attitude and rudeness I was met with on 5/23 for asking to rush my order only for it to be done in the ten minutes I show up the next day is ridiculous. Oh and of course he charged full price. And instead of expediting the stitching is busy answering personal phone calls. I would recommend any other tailor in this area

I am extremely disappointed by the treatment my husband received during what should have been a simple return. We came in to return an online order--shoes and suspenders that were neatly packed and clearly unworn. Within seconds, the associate handling the return began treating the items with visible disgust, dumping everything out of the box carelessly, and handling them as if they were dirty. Before even properly inspecting the shoes, she immediately accused my husband of wearing them. For clarity: the shoes were tried on briefly at home and never worn outside. There were no signs of wear, creasing, or damage--because they were, in fact, unworn. What made this experience even worse was the tone. The interaction was not neutral or professional--it was accusatory from the start. Another employee, who was in the middle of assisting a different customer on the phone, felt the need to interject and double down on the accusation without any basis. Had this been approached respectfully, my husband would have been more than willing to have a calm conversation. Instead, he was met with immediate suspicion and hostility. It's difficult to ignore the role that bias may have played here--my husband, an Asian man dressed casually in a hoodie and hat, was treated as though he was trying to deceive the store. This was not just poor customer service--it was disrespectful and unacceptable. No customer should be made to feel judged, profiled, or accused without cause. We expected basic professionalism and left feeling frustrated and disrespected. I sincerely hope management takes this seriously and addresses both the behavior and the underlying bias that led to this experience.

It was so perfect, and so affordable! I will never use anyone else to tailor my clothes again! THANK YOU AGAIN SILVIA! It was so perfect! This place was originally recommended by a friend and when I read the reviews, seeing 3.9 stars…read more(October 2022) was a bit startling and I read through all the reviews and despite several past customers stating Silvia was "rude", and "arrogant", I thought I'll still give her shot as someone who frequently shops at and supports small local businesses. I assumed her personality might be misperceived and was really a firm professional mindset being that many people tend to overlook the knowledge and skills of tailors - I was wrong. I had come in for several items, one was adding a zipper to my white Calvin Klein coat my SO gifted me. A white coat that I have put SO MANY HOURS into cleaning (scrubbing stains and all) and care and received so many compliments on. I'm far from a materialistic person but I LOVED my coat - it was the perfect style of white coat - especially its fur. I asked to have it cleaned professionally too, was promptly told it would be a dry clean. I agreed to whatever was available and appropriate. When I came to pick it up the faux fur was DESTROYED. No one gave a call to come pick it up nor did anyone give me a heads up the fur was destroyed. Want to know what Silvia said? She didn't know it was damaged beforehand. That the material was CHEAP that certain types of FAUX fur are known to have their fur destroyed, that the tags said DRY CLEAN ONLY. That it was the manufacturer's FAULT. That I should call the manufacturer to see if it could be swapped and fixed... SHE DID NOT TAKE THE FAULT until I opened up the jacket and pointed out the tags did not say it was dry cleanable. Regardless of what was dropped off, any reputable and decent tailor checks this and warns customers as it's not uncommon for this to happen. The body of the coat was fine but the faux fur which I previously adored being that it was the perfectly colored, fluffy, light and long fur was no more. After I voiced my disappointment she offered to replace it with whatever fur she had on hand that would be a close match. WHAT A JOKE when I finally came by to pick it up. Agai with her arrogance, she denied it didn't look like the original and she even claimed it was better quality than what I had. This ugly colored fur that had a pattern to it opposed to a more flowed color like mine had. Only after I demanded my money back for the dry cleaning did she return my money. Silvia is EXTREMELY arrogant, bitter, and COLD. I would NEVER come back here and I implore anyone from this part of NJ to avoid! Honest mistake of another worker or not, terrible customer service!
