I don't always receive the same kind of, if any, assistance that I ask for and that is promoted /…read morelisted on their website! Their website has numerous references to assistance for low-income seniors (I'm 69) re: case mgmnt services, referrals and or "assistance" w finding housing, access to food ( when I inquired about receiving food I was given a sm plastic bag containing 3 cans of food; one of green beans, 1 can red kidney beans and a can of peas). When I call and or talk to staff members who say they work with seniors, I am always told that they are not really offering services to seniors right now except rhe occasional onsite elder LGTPQ+ parties (that staff also attend) and, zoom literary presentations (which are quite good but are these the extensive senior services that the website is referring to?) Plus I once brought in some of my nicer clothes, ( that no longer fit) freshly laundered and or dry cleaned to donate. Maybe 12 items, colorful and in excellent condition. The staff member who accepted them did not offer any appreciation or gesture of gratitude but held up each closely scrutinizing each one, in front of another staff person ( I don't know if the woman who did this is there any longer? I didn't catch her name ..?) They do have a nice fitness area, and classes ( I've always had to pay extra for) except for a brief art therapy session / wkshop which was wonderful! Also they have food donated ( which the staff also take) including sourdough bread and potted herbs from Trader Joe's. I think the place has a sound vision and philosophy as stated on their website. But it's not quite like this in reality. Plus the website says everything is offered free of charge. This is not true. They would not let me touch a computer or anything else for that matter, until I paid for a membership. I DO qualify for one that is subsidized so I appreciate that! Though now I am a bit afraid to visit very often because one of the last times I visited the front desk person and a houseless person seemed to be having an argument. The houseless person got violent and began swinging a large bat type thing. It was frightening to witness tho I've been in a few times since then. Also one more BIG thing to mention; the director replaced all of my keys that were lost there, paying for all of them! I will be forever indebted for her kindness!! And last but not least; Damien at the front desk is one of the kindest people I have ever met! Always, thoughtful, always gentle and ALWAYS friendly!

Today, creative space is scarce. The Bodecker Foundation is a unique nonprofit creative incubator. It's an epic creative clubhouse! Their mission is to create an ever evolving creative community of artists, illustrators, writers, comic makers, musicians, audio recordists, game designers, skaters, graphic designers, filmmakers, animators; and sneaker, apparel, and accessories designers. The main floor is the kitchen, lounge, graphics workshop, and a place for musicians to play. And The Skate Bowl. If you ever saw the film Dogtown and the Z-Boys, this is a pool like that. You can skate from the street, up the entry ramp, into the multipurpose entry space, down a ramp by the DJ booth and into the bowl. Upstairs they have a recording studio among the top handful of Portland's best. And there is also a residence there, so events end at 9PM in this residential neighborhood. They have a program with local high schools. Want to make music? Want to make graphic tees, posters or comics? They have the professional tools for you. It is a space for other nonprofits to work in too. And they have artist residencies. I went to the artist residency readout by Myles de Bastion at Boedecker. It was a low key event to try on the artist's new project. They really put the effort into the event, with many more ASL-fluent participants than not. I am going to try and not put to much detail here (you can learn it for yourself. But in short it was built in 1919 to house the Portland Buddhist Church it was the congregation's third building. It is three floors tall with a basement. It was located here in what was the center of Oregon's Japanese community of "Japan Town" at the time. The first floor was the sanctuary, the second floor was a hostel for migrant workers and the third floor housed the priest. The basement housed a social hall and a small kitchen. The building was built to be more then a church it was also a community center with lots of groups meeting there. When they built this building the Japanese community was small about 2600 members in all of Oregon more than half that in NW Portland. The men usually came as singles saved their money and sent back to Japan for wives they chose from their pictures. The men worked jobs all over the northwest often working in physically demanding jobs but called the blocks around here home. The history tells a story of early minorities in Portland and how they were treated and of a world we will never see first hand. In 2004 the building joined the National Register of Historic Places,

We need to start enforcing laws on all motor vehicles and require licences, registration and sensible age laws. E-bikes and e-scooters are sending people to ERs and even death due to our lax laws and poor enforcement.

Yes it was small but it would've been fine. But we chose this...upsetting and traumatic complex. Let me start with the bedbugs. Saw a review just now from 8 YEARS AGO, of a bedbug infestation. They have clearly not fixed the issue. We moved in to a BEDBUG INFESTED APARTMENT without being told. Bites that last for days, pest control (which is a separate company but super friendly and kind) being delayed by THE COMPLEX due to the maintenance requests, disgusting floors that (when shampooed by US) secreted BLACK WATER. The place absolutely reeks of body odor and cigarettes and let me tell you, it WILL NOT come out no matter how hard you try. My partner and I tried everything. The apartment is still disgusting. We have been here for a few months and we are unable to even unpack because of all the pests and grime. We also suffer with ants too so there's that. The price may be nice, but please do not fall victim to this. I have several other recommendations to live just not here. Due to everything, we are stuck with a dirty infested apartment. AND don't get be started on the noise levels of this place. Holy Sh!T. You can hear everything. I can hear my neighbors laughing through my walls AND my front door. The Front doors don't even touch the ground the create a seal it's as if the apartments are just bedrooms with little amenities. People are truly unfriendly. The people who work here are completely clueless to the Internet connections in the building as well. So do not expect good Internet. Even maintenance does not know connections to the rooms, in fact the connections to OUR apartment aren't even on our floor! Then we have fire alarms. My. God. Every. alarm. is. A. FALSE. Alarm. Do not expect it to be fixed by anyone. Do not expect help from anyone. You are forced to live in this place quietly and deal with the constant blaring of the alarms. Doesn't matter if it's at midnight or five in the morning. Deal with it. I have service animals and having to constantly bring them outside so their ears don't blow up is tiring. I should not have to worry about my health AND my service animals losing their hearing because of the alarms that hear people will not fix. Moving in we ALSO had to change our entire plumbing in the kitchen because it was rotten and falling apart. Wtf. Save yourself the trauma, stress and MONEY. DO NOT STAY HERE. Stop looking at the price, there are cheaper places with better interior and living conditions.

It's so nice to be in school and mingle with others at the same point in their life, they would constantly set up community outings, even provided a free trip on the river! The biggest negatives were that the fire alarms are fucked, and the elevators in the tower break every other month and take weeks to get fixed. But the leasing office is usually super helpful, they could be better about communicating their hours however- All in all I really liked living here. Made some great memories and connections. Definitely a good housing situation while you're in school!
