I would give this housing complex 0 if I could. my partner and I were driven out of our previous dwelling due to family issues and this was the only option at the time. we had another, The Amy (we should've taken it), it was brand new, amenities everywhere and cheaper. Yes it was small but it would've been fine. But we chose this...upsetting and traumatic complex. Let me start with the bedbugs. Saw a review just now from 8 YEARS AGO, of a bedbug infestation. They have clearly not fixed the issue. We moved in to a BEDBUG INFESTED APARTMENT without being told. Bites that last for days, pest control (which is a separate company but super friendly and kind) being delayed by THE COMPLEX due to the maintenance requests, disgusting floors that (when shampooed by US) secreted BLACK WATER. The place absolutely reeks of body odor and cigarettes and let me tell you, it WILL NOT come out no matter how hard you try. My partner and I tried everything. The apartment is still disgusting. We have been here for a few months and we are unable to even unpack because of all the pests and grime. We also suffer with ants too so there's that. The price may be nice, but please do not fall victim to this. I have several other recommendations to live just not here. Due to everything, we are stuck with a dirty infested apartment. AND don't get be started on the noise levels of this place. Holy Sh!T. You can hear everything. I can hear my neighbors laughing through my walls AND my front door. The Front doors don't even touch the ground the create a seal it's as if the apartments are just bedrooms with little amenities. People are truly unfriendly. The people who work here are completely clueless to the Internet connections in the building as well. So do not expect good Internet. Even maintenance does not know connections to the rooms, in fact the connections to OUR apartment aren't even on our floor! Then we have fire alarms. My. God. Every. alarm. is. A. FALSE. Alarm. Do not expect it to be fixed by anyone. Do not expect help from anyone. You are forced to live in this place quietly and deal with the constant blaring of the alarms. Doesn't matter if it's at midnight or five in the morning. Deal with it. I have service animals and having to constantly bring them outside so their ears don't blow up is tiring. I should not have to worry about my health AND my service animals losing their hearing because of the alarms that hear people will not fix. Moving in we ALSO had to change our entire plumbing in the kitchen because it was rotten and falling apart. Wtf. Save yourself the trauma, stress and MONEY. DO NOT STAY HERE. Stop looking at the price, there are cheaper places with better interior and living conditions. read more

I lived in the goose hollow tower and boy a was it a time! I enjoyed the community that's built here so much! It's so nice to be in school and mingle with others at the same point in their life, they would constantly set up community outings, even provided a free trip on the river! The biggest negatives were that the fire alarms are fucked, and the elevators in the tower break every other month and take weeks to get fixed. But the leasing office is usually super helpful, they could be better about communicating their hours however- All in all I really liked living here. Made some great memories and connections. Definitely a good housing situation while you're in school! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Be prepared to lose countless hours of sleep at any hour of the day or night due to faulty fire alarm systems resulting in alarms over 90 decibels blasting for at least half an hour (longest was close to 2 hours). The leasing office will place blame on individual tenants and state the importance of evacuating every time they go off without acknowledging or fixing the faulty system--the alarms went off at 1am on a weeknight when it was 29 degrees out with gusts of wind. We (and many other tenants, including one who was out with his BABY) nearly froze and it took over an hour and a half for the fire department to finish inspecting the building (nothing was wrong, it was due to the faulty system). This happened at least 15 times over my 10 month lease. They claimed to have fixed the issue, and at a later date said that they would have someone enter each unit to make sure each apartment's alarm system issues were resolved: no one ever came, they didn't fix it (it actually went off again the night after they claimed to have fixed it). The maintenance workers themselves are great, but the building does not prioritize quality materials. There is a near-constant plumbing issue throughout the entire building (sinks barely draining, requesting tenants to not use sinks for 24 hours, having the toilet overflow and flood three rooms while we were sleeping, leaky sinks. Improperly installed plumbing is commonplace here). The CRC (where your packages are left) has been mentioned in the other reviews so I won't reiterate too much, but what they have said is completely true, the hours are completely up to their discretion and change without prior notice. I had a grocery delivery that was brought while the CRC was on a break, I didn't get off work until it was closed for the day, and my food sat overnight. After I sent multiple emails asking about it they informed me that I could reach out to their emergency after-hours number to get the package--but that wasn't made clear at the time of move-in. What others have said about the elevator in the Plaza is also true, getting to the CRC is time consuming and annoying, and there is only one large elevator in the building, so moving in and out is even more of a nightmare than it should be, as you have to bring everything down a very long hallway to get to the elevator that fits furniture, before taking it up/down-stairs and through multiple doors just to get it in/out-side. The apartments are dark and small, reality is completely different from the advertising photos. Incredibly thin walls and floors/ceilings, sounded like people were dropping bowling balls and could hear screaming and laughing frequently in the middle of the night. Leasing office uses fine print to hide rules about how much notice to give the office, doesn't make it clear when your lease is up on their website/your rental portal, and doesn't have tenants sign the document about giving notice (even though you sign 10-15 individual notices attached to your lease agreement, and they have the document for giving notice, which they conveniently send you when you are trying to move out) When I brought up these predatory actions towards their often young and inexperienced tenants (as it is student housing) I was ghosted by the leasing office who were apparently discussing my issues with their team and never got back to me. read more

The leasing office of CHNW has moved to 1604 SW Clay. This is a great option for anyone in school. CHNW is a nonprofit and is mandated to keep their rents low and their service high while keeping an eye on sustainability. Unfortunately due to their low prices and superior service, they are almost always filled. Last I checked the waiting list had almost 100 people on it. However many of those people drop off the list as they find other living accommodations while waiting. They have smaller, older buildings closer to the PSU campus and the large buildings in Goose Hollow where the leasing office is located. The Goose Hollow Plaza is their flagship living/learning facility. read more

I lived at CHNW for too long. During my time there I experienced bed bug scares, fire alarms going off at all hours, neighbors screaming and breaking stuff, and management that didn't care about their residents. The property manager was hostile and aggressive towards people who didn't understand the mask mandate. These same people were individuals who did not speak english as a first language and were foreign exchange students. The complex frequently had visits from homeless people in the area and you could find them in the fire escapes of the towers. Pay the fee for the garage and you still get your car broken into with no documentation on the security cameras because none of them work (management confirmed). It's been over two years since I moved out and I only just got alerted by their finance department that I have a bill that is due from OVER two years ago. I never once was alerted by them and was told that I was in good standing when I left. I DO NOT recommend living here. To sum it up here are some other great things that happened while I lived there - A resident brought a gun into the building - The laundry machines were never maintenanced and only one would work at a time for an entire floor - Management wouldn't confront a resident who would let their dog pee and poop in the hallway - Custodial did not clean up dog poop in a stairway for over a week - The appliances are outdated and cheap - The carpets are stained, smelly, and raggedy - They underpay their staff and don't treat them with respect read more

College Housing Northwest is different from other property management companies in that it's non-profit, cares deeply for the residents and their well-being, and listens to resident concerns and suggestions. I lived in the Goose Hollow Plaza for over a year and felt that it was a great alternative to other options downtown. I had my own apartment and not just a dorm room, I wasn't paying an arm and a leg to live near PSU, and CHNW had on-site employees, fun events, and a community resource center. The only problems I found was that at times it can get loud, but this is true of every apartment complex filled with college students. In the case where it was too loud a Resident Ambassador would respond and take care of the issue. However, this is outweighed by the lower priced rents and the staff's care and concern for the residents. read more

Beware, my husband and I ended up with bedbugs. We spent months trying to fight the bed bugs. They took forever getting back to us to treat the bed bugs. When they finally got around to treating us they demanded we leave while they treat us. Leave where? We were students. Come to find out there was an infestation the whole time. They let us move in with bed bugs in the apartment. We spent what money we had leaving and had to destroy everything. Don't rent from this company. read more

College Housing Northwest used to be great, but now they are horrible! I lived there for three years and have seen how bad they have gotten. It really is sad, because they used to be so great. They fired their cleaning company and now have students cleaning for them. So they charge extra for small things in order for CHNW to get extra money. It is really sad to admit, but here are only a couple of the things they have done in the last year I was living there. They messed up my paper work on more than one occasion. Not to mention the people they hire in the leasing office are horrible. They are slow and not a single one knows what they are talking about. Talking about the PRICE they now have new owners and are not cheep at all anymore. They claim to be the cheapest in the neighborhood but that is a lie. I moved right across the street and my rent is a couple hundred cheaper a month. They charged me $200 dollars for not putting my blinds back up (would have taken me 5 min to do it) I didn't do it because I went and asked the leasing office if I needed to do that and they said nope it would be no problem. read more
