I LOVE the ABG, they have so many amazing seasonal events and educational series you could spend almost everyday there and never get bored. The spring and summer blooms are absolutely beautiful, and in the winter they have spooky autumn walks and holiday themed Christmas light walks. It's affordable to get in and even more affordable to buy a family pass. If you haven't stopped by you should give it a try. Such a pleasant place to visit, especially if you're entertaining guests from out of town. We were there the 3rd week of June before all the peonies started blooming. None the less the design, the volunteers, and gardeners that take care of this place do an outstanding job. It will be worth it to visit again when the peonies are all in full bloom. They also have a small gift shop and plants you can purchase to plant in your own garden! One of a few places where you can buy the Himalayan Blue Poppy. Well worth the visit. Great place to visit in Anchorage if you're looking for something to do outside but that isn't a hike. Looks of diversity of plants and I especially enjoyed the stone garden part and the art that was throughly the garden. I spent about 1 hour here but didn't do the nature walk at the back part of the gardens. read more

This place is beautiful, even in the fall. It is located just before you get to the Muldoon area. Signage asks you to park in the Benny Benson Alternative School parking lot. Our first visit here was on a Saturday. I assume visiting during the week, you'll need to get creative with finding parking. Non-members over the age of 6yrs are asked to pay $6/visit. There are clean bathrooms with plumbing here. The garden trails are paved and well kept. There are story pages for kids to read and follow a long throughout the trail. Since we were visiting during the off season, most of the flowers, plants, and herbs were wilted and dormant. Although we didn't run into any bears, you are told to be bear aware here. This visit we came to see the gardens' Halloween/fall decor. Everything was creative and spooky, a nice 30min nature walk for the kiddos or those visiting Alaska. I definitely plan to return during growing season. read more

I attended the beer in the Garden event and had a wonderful time . The flowers are beautiful and there are numerous lovely spots to stop and smell the flowers and take pictures . You can get so many good ideas to use at your own house . It's fun to see what plants look great together and how to take advantage of the years of experience the staff can share with you when you are deciding what you want to plant . It was a warm Alaska evening filled with amazing plants , great beer , people having fun , and live music . I can't wait for the wine tasting here in August ! read more

A beautiful place to go on a lazy Sunday afternoon and a great place to see fall season. The entrance has a paved trail that makes a completely circle and dirt trails in between. The garden feature different types of plants, flowers, vegetables, and herbs. The kids really enjoyed seeing the giant sunflowers, cabbage truck, herb garden, and pergolas. They charge $10/adults and $8/Kids, seniors, military. Just don't expect to be amazed or see anything new. Overall, this place is great for amateur photographers and it took about 45-60 minutes to see every section of the garden. read more

We stopped by the botanical garden on a whim and it ended up being a great stop. It's located on the campus of a local school and shares a parking lot with them. We were greeted by a friendly admissions person and took advantage of their military discount. The gardens appear small but actually continue quite far into the woods. We spent about an hour and a half slowly meandering their exhibits. They have a great selection of arctic flowers and lots of unique exhibits. We really enjoyed our time there and thought it was worth the cost of admission. A word to the wise, the mosquitoes are as intense as others have noted - prepare accordingly. We had to leave to apply bug spray and come back. read more

This was a bit of Nirvana on foot. The feel was soft and genteel as we meandered along paved and soft mulched trails gazing at flora, greenery and herbaceous delights. A perfectly lovely way to spend a morning prior to departure. read more

What great gardens! I visited the Alaska Botanical Gardens back on Monday, June 1st and the flowers weren't quite in bloom yet. I remember enjoying the herb garden immensely and taking great photos of a variety of flowers. Even though there was a bear sighting (plus her two cubs) the previous day, we did not encounter them during our visit. We were greeted by a great employee who described the entire gardens prior to us even entering... I guess she wanted us to make sure we knew the lay of the land before we entered. Overall, a great spot to take pictures, see flowers, and escape into a tranquil garden. It looked like there were great programs for kids, too. read more

The Alaska Botanical Garden is a "hidden" gem only known by...tons of mosquitoes! The mosquitoes were so intense that, after we paid the entrance fee, we left to purchase insect repellent and then returned to the garden. If you apply insect repellent in the parking lot, you will be largely left alone. Despite the mosquitoes, we had a wonderful time at the garden. It's a charming place. Our friend, a resident of Anchorage, was able to apply our three entrance fees towards a family membership. read more

Beautiful place and so relaxing. I loved this place and definitely gonna come back. Walking in there is like walking in a jungle but with a pretty walk way. Lots of wild berries everywhere. Large selection of flowers and herbs. Friendly staff very informative. Military is 10.00 admission and civilians are 12.00. It's a must see if your in anchorage. read more

This place is beautiful in the summertime, and the yearly passes are affordable and well worth it for a family up to 4 is like $75. Lots of areas to walk and explore the outdoors. I would highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

I have been to this place twice. Once about 5 years ago or so and now again just recently. It is really a great place. It seems like the way the garden is just cut out of the woods would not work. But here it does. I love the place. They have laid wood chips everywhere and between all the great plant specimens every variety of fungi were popping up. My wife and I both like and work with plants and so visit many gardens and parks where ever we go. This isn't one of those french formal not a flower petal out of place gardens...so if that is your cup of tea I suspect this is not the place for you. I'm assuming you probably wouldn't be in alaska if you were that much of a wall flower anyway! But if you like plants, plantings, nature and they have plants sales too...then you will love to add this location to places you've been. Great job people. I love your logo too. :-D read more

I wanted to go here. The web site said open year around 0700 to 7pm. Everyday, arrived there and it is closed.

One of my favorite things to do is to take pictures of plants (is that weird?), and this is a great place to do so. Nothing out of the ordinary, but a great place for a stroll and to see a variety of flowers, ferns, trees, vegetables, and many other types of plant life. They also have an annual plant sale in May with some great specimens you won't find at Lowe's or Home Depot! read more

This is one of my favorite places to buy plants, and to walk around on a nice day. The staff and volunteers really know plants: they know what grows in Alaska, and they have some of the hardiest and most interesting varieties of those plants. All the starts I've gotten here have been very healthy and good growers. They also have excellent organic compost and soil at a decent price, and have a nice-looking gift shop I haven't been in. Do yourself a favor and DON'T buy plants or soil at big box stores! Fred Meyer/Lowe's/Home Depot don't grow and sell plants for *Alaskan* gardens! They may be cheaper up front, but you will spend much more time and money in the long run on inferior plants and materials. Growers like the AK Botanical Garden are tried and true. I recommend the short walking tours they have in summer, led by Master Gardeners. FYI, there are frequently bears in this area so it's better to be with a guide. read more

Nice little garden, but that is not my complaint. They make it clear on the Botanical Garden website, that if you come before the gift shop and whatnot opens simply put the $12 fee to enter into the little payment box at the gate. Which I did. But I don't recommend you get there early because you may get accosted by an employee - in this case by the so-called Executive Director - and be accused of not paying. He literally assumed that I did not pay by informing me (in front of other visitors I might add- adding to my already humiliated state) that they have a fee to enter the park, like I'm a friggin bum. I informed him that I did pay of course and continued my walk though highly offended. So just be informed that if you try to get there early and enjoy the quiet, that you may be treated like a thief or a bum in front of other people. And to the garden employees- Maybe you should check your little payment box before you just go accusing people of entering the garden with out paying. read more

Visit this botanic garden!! While exploring Alaska it is hard to understand the floristic diversity of the state since it is such a huge state with very few roads. At the botanic garden you get all the botanical gems from throughout the state and they are really wild and cool to compare. The exhibits are well curated and colorful. I liked the installation showing what early settlers would plant because you still see a lot of the same plants around houses and it's fun to understand more of the history. Visit the garden and you will get more out of your alaska experience as you adventure throughout the state! read more
