I bought the new 15 pro max. I have the 11 pro max but wanted a better camera. I made an appointment at the max store in Anchorage. The woman at the counter was quite 'dismissive'. 'Oh you just need to pair it.' So I was like 'ohh ok but I always like to have a 'genius consult because there are new features.' 'There are videos you can get online', she replied. 'Ohh. Ok.' I left. Useless trip across town, made to feel like I was wasting their time. Well. I followed instructions. Backed up the 11 pro max to the cloud. Went to download that back up from the cloud. Denied. From the old phone. Denied. Why? Because the 15 pro max shipped with iOS 17.1.1. To pair or download from the cloud or a phone that has 17.1.2 ...-... you need 17.1.2 Let me assure you. THIS IS NOT AN INTUITIVE PROCESS. The new iPhone wants to be set up before you can access settings. Accessing those settings requires a tech. I spent an hour on the phone with an Apple tech fixing this problem. Genius tech but even she had a few problems. from now on I'll call Apple or go to the Apple Store downtown. read more

This business earned another Zero stars review. Nasty owners that lie to their customers to try and make them give up (told me on the phone an associate was unavailable to help troubleshoot and only after pressing said their policy was to not help over the phone after I got my Mac home and it wouldn't boot on first try). When you don't give up they choose to not stand by their work and tell you over the phone that they have the right to refuse service and tell you to never come back (like I actually would other than to get back my original receipt and take them to small claims court). Imagine that - don't perform the service correctly that you were contracted to do and then keep the money and tell you to never come back! Should you choose to ignore this and the other one star reviews so be it but be forewarned - make sure that If they perform a service (transfer of memory) or a repair - turn on the device BEFORE YOU GO. If you don't and the device isn't working when you boot it at home they will claim that it was working in the shop. It gets worse...they wanted me to essentially write them a blank check to troubleshoot - another 100 dollars for a second memory transfer and 50 dollars to 'remove malware.' I recommended a refund and going out separate ways. Nope - they kept the money and told me to never come back. I can only assume that business isn't great right now and they are resorting to stealing from their customers to make ends meet. why else would they refuse to plug an SSD card into an adapter and re-load (?) the data. not exactly a labor intensive job to try it again. This after admitting that they should have turned the device on for me in the store and telling me they wouldn't honor the warranty until checking the video to make sure my Mac wasn't turned on for me as is their supposed policy. After asking for a firm time for them to contact me re having them make this right and them not calling me back I called them. Only after repeated calls (they were screening my number - of this I'm absolutely positive) they picked up and hung up twice before finally answering the line and getting nasty with me and telling me they weren't going to honor their work. Called back after getting hung up on mid sentence only to get yelled at and hung up on by the other supposed owner. Mind you - I never raised my voice or resorted to name calling. The hang up routine was their perceived checkmate for them to keep my money and have me move along. Class acts they are. read more

AMAZING. I'm going to set up a tent in the parking lot and live in front of their store so I can thank every day when I get up. I walked in with an absolute mess on my laptop (Mac Air)--a mess that, of course, I created. All the settings were wrong and I could hardly read anything. Took him a while to dig through all my settings and find the problems (yes, plural) (yes, I felt stupid), but he did, and he fixed it all. While I was there several other people came in. They were busy the entire time. They were very friendly with everyone, even though it was a stressful/busy Monday morning. I loved how they didn't try to upsell anyone. They were very honest about what you could expect for your money, when it was worth paying (for example, thousands of photos lost on a wet iphone), when it wasn't. At least 2 customers didn't seem to know anything about computers and they store could have probably sold them more stuff + services, but they didn't. Everyone in there was upset, like I was. When your computer and/or phone screw up it can really impact your life! This is who I'll use for future issues and I highly recommend them. read more

I rarely need repairs on any of my Apple products. But, recently I dropped my iPhone 13 Pro and I had a yellow line of death in the LCD screen. I went online and booked an appointment for repair, and also called to speak with a rep there that same day. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. They ordered a replacement part right away since they didn't have it in stock and they said they would call asap when it comes in. 72 hours later they have the part, and I got a call from them as soon as it arrived. I went in, dropped off my phone and they had it looking brand new in an hour. The staff at my visit were different than who I spoke with , but they were also very helpful and accommodating. On Wednesday 7/10/2019 I visited the Alaska MacStore, 2217 East Tudor Rd, Suite 17, Anchorage, AK. Due to an error on my part after replacing an SSD, my MacBook Pro would only operate on AC power. It was not a problem for me since I always used it at home, connected to AC power. I recently bought a new laptop and wanted to gift the old one to my nephew. I wanted to have it fully operable and hoped it could be serviced to restore the battery to operation prior to giving it away. The technician started it up on AC power and ran diagnostics. I was told to expect a phone call by 2:00pm that day with an update. By 4:30 I had not received a call so I visited the store. I was told the laptop would not operate, even when plugged in. The technician suggested I had possibly incorrectly installed a small part and that it would certainly ruin the logic board. This of course was ridiculous since they acknowledged it was operating on AC power when I initially brought it in for service. I then pointed out that the part in question could not be improperly installed since it was keyed with a hole in one corner and a notch on one side. The technician tried to line it up incorrectly and had to admit that was the case, demonstrating an apparent lack of expertise and technical aptitude. I fault the business for purporting to offer qualified service when it appears that someone with questionable qualifications was allowed to service my equipment. They charge an up-front, non-refundable labor charge of $100. They refused to provide any relief on that count. Essentially, I was charged $100 to have my laptop rendered inoperable. They informed me that my only option was to purchase a new battery and logic board, an expense far in excess of the value of the seven year-old laptop. My other mistake was ignoring signs that the technician lacked knowledge and experience based on several questions he asked when I first brought my laptop in. Though not explicitly stated, I should have assumed this employee would be the one assigned to service it. read more

I called and asked if they had a specific part. They said yes. I said OK and drove over. The part was waiting on the counter when I arrived. I checked out as the staff member helped someone on the phone decide what they needed in a new Mac. As soon as he hung up, he was very courteous and apologetic for talking through our transaction. Timeliness: A+ Friendliness: A+ Products: For what I needed, A+ The ambiance is pretty rough; not exactly professional with a big sheet or blanket hung up on one side of the main lobby and the door to the baby store open and baby items stuffed here and there in the entryway. I think yep. I'll go there again. Luckily, I'm not too picky about ambiance if the service and goodies are quality. Hmm... one other thought, though. Their web presence is pretty atrocious. It took some hunting to figure out if the store was still open. I was only able to verify by looking for the address and Apple because I had seen them on Dimond; which is close to my house. I dropped my computer off because it wasn't working after I got home from college. It's a 2017 computer that seems like it should be fairly new since I have hardly used it while I was a athlete in school that did most my work in team study (Covid started and I decided I didn't want to go to school). I paid about $700 by the end of getting it diagnosed and fixed the first time. I moved out of town and they mailed it to me once they replaced the part they said wasn't working. When I got my computer and opened the package, it wouldn't even turn on. I was kind of embarrassed after talking about it being fixed to my family for so long. It feels so time/financially consuming having to drop my computer off again in the first place. I don't mind flying all the way to anchorage just to pick it up next time but it feels like another lose having them tell me there's another part that doesn't work that will cost $500 to repair. I would bring my stuff elsewhere in the first place next time because this so unfortunate. Don't have them mail it to you either. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My daughter bought a new Mac laptop from the Apple store for college. We get a notice about the SSD recall. Take it in to the Alaska Mac Store and they order the part and put it on just in time for her to head back to school. She gets back and her computer shuts down every 5 minutes and she gets the "spinning wheel of death". Not conducive to a college student's life. She brought it in to a Mac store in her college town and they open it up to find the Alaska Mac Store had "installed" the SSD with tape. TAPE!!!! Are you freaking kidding me?? The second store is now sending her computer in to Apple where it will be properly fixed. Used to be a great spot until the real Apple store came to the 5th avenue mall. They don't try to hide their markup, not sure if that is a plus or a minus. I've had two poor customer service experiences and one gone completely bad. Used to go here for convenience even though I was paying a premium (even after the Apple store opened), but now they have reached an all new high score of terrible customer service. Another "wish I could give them zero stars" review. My wife's iPhone 6 needed a new battery after over 4 years of operation. We live 150 miles from Anchorage, so driving into the city for service is a big deal. To ensure everything would go smoothly, we made an appointment with this store several days in advance. When we arrived, we were told that " We normally have the battery in stock, but we're out now. We can have one sent overnight." Hey, that was the point of us making an appointment, so you could be ready! Then when we asked if they would call the other Apple place in town and see if they had a battery in stock, since we lived out of town and couldn't come back the next day, the woman behind the counter flat refused to do so. Finally, she was rude and insulting to my wife, who was understandably upset after we drove 150 miles for this fiasco. We walked out, drove downtown to the Apple store in the 5th Ave Mall. They not only had a battery, but they also had us in and out in just over 30 minutes without an appointment AND charged us 20% less than the Alaska MacStore would have! I had an appointment to have my phone checked because the touch screen is going on the fritz intermittently. I arrived at the time of my appointment, was seen right away and treated professionally and courteously. He ran standard Apple diagnostics on the phone, which was unfortunately for me, behaving properly at the time of my arrival. The tests showed no problem with the hardware. So, I have to wait until the screen stops working and then take it in for testing and repair. The tech did what he was supposed to do, not his fault that my problem is intermittent. But because the problem didn't show itself, I can't speak to their repair ability. read more

"Computer Jesus" tried to charge my sister 4-500 dollars to replace her motherboard when her RAM just needed to be reseated. Went back one more time to ask if they sold phone repair kits. After stating that they couldn't sell me the tools, computer jesus wouldn't even give an idea of where I could find them. He stated that I probably couldn't find one in town, but that he'd be happy to charge me for the repair. I opted out. The first electronics store I called had 3 different kinds of kits. I would give no stars if possible. I made an appointment online to get in and out as fast as possible. I waited in a line of a couple people for15 minutes. When I got helped the lady's mask keep slipping to reveal her nose. They have a large sign that reads thank you for wearing a mask. The owner lady did not bother to put her mask up at anytime. The owner lady proceeded to help three clients while supposedly helping us. I don't see how she could be helping us simultaneously since she kicked one guy off the computer he was using to help us so she could help another lady "real quick". Then that guy helped someone else while we continued to wait now 40 minutes with no where to sit in a hot store with no fans we bought a soda out of their vending machine that was super sticky with no sanitizer or area to wash it off our hands and arms. Finally owner lady started helping us at the register computer and the tests they were running all failed. She then helped another client. Once finished with that client we expressed our frustration about making an appointment them not honoring choosing to help others while we waited and treating us as products not people we do have a brain and know what test you are running and aren't behind the register in the computer. Don't go to this company to waste your time and be treated poorly. After voicing our concerns owner lady retaliated by saying do you just want your iPad back then? Yes we do you, and you will not be getting my $300 or any future business. Wow, for priding themselves on customer service this is a true sign of character. I found out my 5 year old MacBook is worth 29 dollars - ha (I was curious to know and I think they were being generous with that figure)! The staff was friendly and the service was good/fast so problems there at all! They're young kids behind the counter and seem thirsty to learn new things and help people. They suggested how I might upgrade my existing MacBook but quoted me 160 bucks to upgrade from a 2 GB to a 8 GB. While I appreciated the suggestion, my husband can install that for me for free labor and get the parts at cost. Still nice to know if I was in a bind and my husband wasn't in town, these gentlemen know what they're doing. Would definitely have taken the upgrade if I weren't married to a network engineer. P.s. I wasn't doubting my husband's prowess - I was in there with my dad because his iPhone was being weird. Kind of hard to get to if you aren't adept at driving on Dimond Blvd. and the shop itself is behind Kid to Kid. They share the space so there's overflow of Kid to Kid stuff in the Mac store - which is whatever and doesn't bother me much other than it gives it kind of a cluttered appearance but you do what you can, I suppose! read more

Went in to get a replacement battery for my MacBook, I was ignored by the staff for over 15 minutes before finally being helped. After I started working with them, they found the right battery for my MacBook but it was over TWICE the amount ANYWHERE else ($220 for a $99 battery!). Unfortunately, new shipping requirements make getting batteries to Alaska difficult from any of the major retailers, so I was forced to pay. I feel like I was taken advantage of considering that the website of the people who MAKE the batteries sells them for $110. Overpricing for profits on already expensive gear is just poor business practice. Would not recommend this place to anyone looking for Apple gear or accessories - complete rip off. read more

Worst service ever! Took my iMac in for repair. Was told 1-2 days for diagnosis. Three business days later I called and was hung up on three times before finding out what was needed but couldn't get the price. They were going to call back but didn't. I called the next day to find out and (after being hung up on again) got the price and authorized the repair which was supposed to take 1-2 days to get part and 1-2 days to repair. Two days after that another person calls me to tell me what's wrong and has no idea I authorized the repair. Nothing had been ordered or done. Had to authorize again. Was told they would overnight part and make this a priority and they would call the next day but they didn't. When I called they were rude and said they were still waiting and maybe I'd get it the following week....and then they hung up on me again. Do Not Recommend for anything! read more

I stopped by the Alaska MacStore early Saturday, March 22, 2014, to return an unopened software DVD I had purchased the previous Saturday. I was told by Joe the sales tech that I could return it with no problem as long as it wasn't opened. I didn't need it so I was there to return it. When I arrived there was one other customer that was being helped by one of three employees. I stood at the register for over 5 minutes with these three passing in front of me time after time and not one of the three bothered to say, "we'll be right with you," "can I help you?" or even look at me to acknowledge my presence. Finally the rudest of the three asked me what I wanted then he was unable to figure out how to do the transaction. My husband was at 5th Ave. Mall at the Apple store getting an iPhone case and came home talking about how professional and attentive they were even with a store full of people. I, on the other hand, still have the unopened DVD that I don't need and will throw it in the trash rather than set foot in the Alaska MacStore again. I went to their Facebook page to register a complaint only to find it almost immediately deleted. I guess customer relations isn't a big deal to them. I needed a RAM upgrade for a late 2013 iMac. They charged me $150 each 8GB for a total of $600 for a 32 GB upgrade. This was just for the ram, which I installed myself at home. I could have purchased it at Amazon or Best Buy for around $200 - 300!! While I usually don't mind paying a bit more to support local merchants, I feel this differential was excessive. Also, I brought one of the original 4 GB RAM with me in a Ziplock bag. The person who seemed to be in charge (?owner) told me I had "fried" the ram because it wasn't protected from static electricity. He seemed quite confident that the RAM was ruined. I got home and put it in my other iMac and it worked perfectly fine. read more

Are you a man, and have you ever wanted to be invisible? If so, wait until two good looking women are in the store looking at iPads and then go in trying to get a part to repair your Mac Pro. You will completely vanish - the salesman won't be able to see you at all for at least 15 minutes! It's amazing. Immediately following a very recent iPad upgrade, we attempted to transfer the data from the old to the new. For a few reasons it didn't go slick. Finally, after saturating on frustration, we went to the Alaska MacStore. We were heartened by a sincere look of genuine concern when we explained our issue to the lady at the front counter. Ethan, a true whiz, emerged from the back to help us get well. He quickly analyzed our problem and he knew exactly how to fix it. He explained each step before execution and he ensured that we understood what he was doing as he progressed. He made sure we were comfortable with everything he planned to do beforehand (no smoke). The fix turned out to be simple (at least to a knowledgeable operator), and we were soon in business and on our way. The price for this peace of mind was very fair. We could not be more pleased and we'll definitely rely on them again. Many times it's the employee who sets the tone for the business. Would give them zero stars if possible. So unhappy with their service- took my broken computer in to have the data extracted and was told it would take a few hours. After four hours I called to see if it was done, not only was it done but they couldn't find the computer under my name. Finally they found it in the back and said it was just sitting there and the guy had no idea what they were doing to it but they left without starting it. I called the next day and was told it would be just one more hour. I went out to run my errands so I could pick it up afterward but surprise- after two hours still not done. Irritated I just told them to call ME when it was finished. Next day, no phone call. It's now the fourth day and I still haven't gotten it back or received a phone call. I called the MacHaus on Northernlights and they said they would do it for the same price. I'll be picking up my Mac from this sh*tty store, asking for a refund and then and bringing it over there. Hopefully they do a better job! A word of advice to the Alaska MacStore, if you're trying to stay in business treat your customers well- don't argue with them on the phone and if it's going to take a week I'm okay with that, but don't keep giving me false times. Amazing service! I spilled water on my MacBook Air. First I took it to the Apple store in the 5th Ave mall and they wouldn't help me because I didn't have an appointment. They referred me to the Alaska MacStore. When I arrived I was greeted by a couple great guys who quickly got me checked in and got the computer back to the tech. They got to work on it right away, have me a reasonable quote to get it fixed, and they were even able to recover my data. Everything was complete in a couple days and I have my computer back fully functional with my data in tact, it's just like it never happened. I would highly recommend Alaska MacStore to everyone, way better service than the Apple store! read more

I tried to get help twice here last year, and the employees were not very considerate to someone not technically knowledgeable, nor wanting to buy at that moment.
