    Waiting room upstairs
    Vivian L.

Atmosphere: The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. There was little to no wait getting checked in for my MRI and follow-up consult. The waiting room is spacious. They have a TV with cartoons and a couple toys for little ones. The large fish tank downstairs in the cafe is beautiful and kept my 2 year old well entertained. The coffee was great and the best price I've seen in a long time. Medical Review: Neurologist Dr. Roberts is a breath of fresh air. He is upbeat, funny, and thorough. He looks at the entire picture, not just the actual MRI images. I feel like I have an advocate in my corner who will see to it that I get the care and treatment I need, and feel hopeful for the first time that the chronic nerve pain I've been living will be become distant memory. He has put wind back into my sails and I feel that we have a clear picture of what's going on and where to go from here. Highly recommend.

After seeing a GP in NJ who was unable to diagnose or medically manage my issue I was sent to a terrible neurologist in NJ who did nothing to help me. After moving to Alaska, I ended up in the ER and was referred to Dr Wayne Downs which was the best thing that ever happened to me because for the first time I my adult life my issues are under control and I have a doctor that listens to me. At present we are meeting over Zoom, but that has in no way affected the doctor's attentiveness. I very much recommend him. Just be aware that he often runs behind because he takes as much time as is necessary to address his patient's concerns and properly chart. I'm fine with that.

Their priorities are disappointing and not representative of a doctor who is providing a positive mental health care experience. Further, their office practices blatantly price gouging and lying about insurance providers accepted. I have filed an official complaint with Aetna. They charge over 4 times the "usual and customary" amount. Please do not provide them with your business.

They go above and beyond to answer questions and provide the most thorough and pleasant patient experience. I have to come monthly and strangely I look forward to seeing all the faces. Of course there's that one person that you'd rather not see, BUT they're not my normal person so it's ok! I feel safe and taken care of here. Ought to check it out before letting one or two other poor experiences deter you from a nice experience. Dr Troxell, Laura, and Bryce are amazing.

Unfortunately, from start to finish, this was one of the most disappointing medical experiences I've had. I was scheduled for what was supposed to be a split-night sleep study. Before the study began, I specifically informed staff that I have hyperacusis and significant sound sensitivity. Despite that, I was placed directly across from or near an open workstation area where staff conversations and activity repeatedly woke me throughout the night. I was awakened at least four separate times by noise. As a result, I was never able to reach a normal sleep state for much of the study. The irony is that the facility later attempted to minimize the severity of my sleep apnea, despite the fact that their own environment prevented me from sleeping long enough to gather meaningful data. If a patient cannot sleep because of noise created by the facility itself, the results are naturally compromised. The room itself was also disappointing. Unlike my previous sleep study experience with Alaska Sleep Centers, which felt comfortable, quiet, and patient-focused, this facility felt cold and clinical. The bed was a fold-down Murphy-style bed, and the bedding was uncomfortable. When I asked questions about getting up during the night, I did not receive clear answers. To make matters worse, I was told I would have results by Tuesday or Wednesday. It is now Saturday, and I still have not received any communication. One of the reasons I chose this clinic was because of its association with neurological care and physicians such as Dr. Lotta. However, when I asked my sleep technician, Chris, about Dr. Lotta, he told me he knew nothing about him and had never met him. That did not inspire confidence that there was any meaningful coordination between the sleep study and the neurological side of the practice. I will also be posting a photo showing the adhesive residue and goop left in my hair after discharge. It was an unpleasant way to end an already frustrating experience. Overall, this study was a waste of my time, left me feeling unheard, and provided little confidence in the quality of care I received. I have canceled my future business with this practice, including plans for neurological testing. I would not recommend this facility to friends, family, or anyone seeking a sleep study--especially patients with sensory sensitivities, neurological conditions, or concerns about receiving an accurate evaluation.

The June follow up which required the insertion of a tube which was inserted in my femoral artery. That's when everything went "south" on me. The doctor used fentanyl which was not what we had agreed to during the pre-surgical meeting prior to the surgery. This was all done at Alaska Regional Hospital. I informed Dr Tolbert that fentanyl passes right through my system, providing absolutely no pane relief. As a result, I felt the incision, being alert and aware of the entire procedure. He decided having an anesthesiologist attend the surgery was unnecessary. Since I was literally buckled down on the table, all I could do was to scream out in severe pain. Closing the wound required two nurses pushing down on the inside of my groin, with all their upper body weight to prevent me from bleeding out. Because of the "blown" closure, I had to lay absolutely flat on my back for 6+ hours after the procedure was done. The hospital report said that everything turned out normal, no mention of the loud screaming or my struggles, at all. I informed the hospital of my experience. Dr Tolbert further refused to acknowledge any part of what had happened. I was pissed and decided to contact a couple law firms that specialized in medical malpractice only to find out he had them collectively on retainers so they could not represent me. Eventually I gave up trying to resolve my complaint through the courts. Later I discovered I was not the only patient who found Dr Tolberts actions to be both excruciatingly painful but dangerous due to the high degree of pain I experienced. He had a "C-" on these report pages from previous patients. He further refused to fill out the paperwork from my insurance company which would have allowed me to return to work, to this day. This has resulted in extreme financial hardship for my family. Dr Tolbert was referred to me by my pain specialist so I didn't do my homework to check his performance record. Shame on me! I hope these comments will help others avoid the awful experience I had to endure. If I had the required funds, I would like to make him pay for what he did. Beware, John C Hughes

I went to Barrington and discovered he's a bit different than the others. No twisting or tugging. He has an electronic device attached to a computer. He works each area until they reach some kind of satisfactory point. This takes a little more than 5 minutes. After two or three treatments, I was dumbfounded and delighted at how much better I felt for days at a time. After a month or two of two-week appointments, he sent me on my way and I haven't been back since; I have no back problem. I highly recommend Dr. Edward Barrington.
