Atmosphere: The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. There was little to no wait getting checked in for my MRI and follow-up consult. The waiting room is spacious. They have a TV with cartoons and a couple toys for little ones. The large fish tank downstairs in the cafe is beautiful and kept my 2 year old well entertained. The coffee was great and the best price I've seen in a long time. Medical Review: Neurologist Dr. Roberts is a breath of fresh air. He is upbeat, funny, and thorough. He looks at the entire picture, not just the actual MRI images. I feel like I have an advocate in my corner who will see to it that I get the care and treatment I need, and feel hopeful for the first time that the chronic nerve pain I've been living will be become distant memory. He has put wind back into my sails and I feel that we have a clear picture of what's going on and where to go from here. Highly recommend. read more

I was referred here by providence er after having a mini stroke. The Dr. I saw was Thomas Mulgrew. In the appointment I was accused of lying when I said I didn't have headaches on a regular basis. After only a few questions directed to me he proceeded to address my sister who attended the appointment with me referring to me as she for about 10 minutes. It got to the point where she said she is your patient not me.. There was no attempt to figure out a plan of care or even the next step. I was just told I was lying and that it was a migraine. DO NOT GO HERE FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT! I have never in my life witnessed a provider behaving in such a disgusting manner as Dr. Sanchez! At first he seemed like a great fit but that quickly spiraled during the follow-up appts. Ever had a MD yell at you? Call you dumb? Stupid? Ignorant? Insist that he doesn't use drug seeker as a pejorative (but will continually call you a drug seeker.) Don't worry Dr. Sanchez does it all. He also has the management back him up in his foul mistreatment. This "Doctor" does not care about you! I was in shock with the manner in which he chose to speak to a patient. I have been in the health industry for over a decade and have come across many short tempered providers but have never once heard someone talking down to another person in such a way as he did. By the second appointment he was talking about the patient firing him, well he went and did it himself. I wonder why? You did them a favor! Nobody and I mean nobody deserves to be degraded in the manner in which he did. I hope this man finds happiness because he sure as hell is spreading misery onto people who don't deserve it. I've been seeing neurologist at this clinic for years. I've had great thorough care and there's been a few times I've left feeling like I was wasting the drs time which made me feel a bit defeated. Leaving a sleep study follow up appointment to go file assault charges and make a report to the Alaska State Medical Board should tell you all you need to know about this place. "Dr." Mulgrew is dangerous and unstable and his practice needs to be investigated. He stated his office tends to 'lose' studies and cases when spouses/caregivers interfere. He practically shoved shoved a prescription at my husband for medicine to 'keep him awake,' after he told us it would be months before we actually get a Cpap machine, despite his diagnosis of SEVERE sleep apnea. We were referred (by Providence) to this place to address his sleep apnea, not get him hooked on uppers. We don't need speed, we need SLEEP! He told us all the tests are basically useless because the data they record is barely taken into account; his words: "Sleep apnea is sleep apnea, period." That despite not knowing anything about my insurance (one of my questions was about pre authorization and he made a point to belittle us for not knowing more about our policy), our insurance would require MANY visits to ensure the machine we eventually get is working correctly. After he told us it was likely my husbands case would need to be restarted because I had called in and been rude (ALL of this is documented in myChart, including the one voicemail and one phone call, and NOWHERE in the message taken by his assistant,' is it mentioned that I was fractious or rude) and he wouldn't blame his staff for dropping our case to the bottom of the list (whatever that means), we stood up to leave. I called that kind of behavior shameful and said we couldn't trust a doctor who would allow that kind of retribution to even be considered. He then ordered me out (we were already leaving) and tried to physically restrain my husband and attempt to force him to stay in the office while putting his hands upon me several times and pushing me away, shouting in my face and triggering my severe cPTSD. He also threatened to call Adult Protective Services and report me, for what I can't even imagine. All because we were attempting to leave his office (as ordered by him in the first place). All this insanity and chaos over a sleep study and my audacity to call his clinic and seek information. To say the experience was bad is the understatement of the year: this was absolutely crazy. I actually wondered at some point if we were being punked or something, it was reality TV level insanity. We are kicking ourselves for not recording; honestly we were so completely shocked that it didn't occur to us until after. ‍ This man is dangerous and his clinic is shady; at this point insurance fraud wouldn't surprise me a bit. And looking at his reviews on Healthgrades.com now, I'm seeing this is a pattern for him. Stay. Away. And if you don't, use your phone to record EVERY second of your time at that office, with EACH person you come into contact with. The whole operation is reprehensible. read more

They never answer their phones it takes days to hear of something back from somebody. Half the time no one knows what's going on none of the staff it's as if they don't communicate with each other. All the doctors seem to be great but the staff horrible. I don't understand why they don't ever answer their phone and you have to just leave a message every time and wait for someone to call you back. I had a great experience. I live in Fairbanks and needed to get an EMG test urgently. Within 2 days of referral sent to them, I got a call to schedule an appointment in 3 days (it was Friday, so appointment for on Monday). Both the provider and PA were very helpful. During the test, which is NOT pleasant, Dr. Henzler was explaining every step he was doing, which really helped to get through it. During the test I was even able to ask questions about some worrisome neurological symptoms I've been having (which were not related to my acute issue needing the test). He was responding as much as he could and I decided to make another appointment to discuss them. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience. You should try Fairbanks neuro clinic. They will not call you for two weeks after they get your referral even if it's marked URGENT. read more

Dr. Downs provided an incredibly unprofessional experience, and I do not trust him as a doctor. Beyond providing poor care, their office explicitly allows (practically encourages) bringing guns on site (I'm serious!), yet explicitly disallows perfume. Their priorities are disappointing and not representative of a doctor who is providing a positive mental health care experience. Further, their office practices blatantly price gouging and lying about insurance providers accepted. I have filed an official complaint with Aetna. They charge over 4 times the "usual and customary" amount. Please do not provide them with your business. read more

The billing department has no idea what they are doing, and the practice manager teaches her staff intolerable customer service standards. I received a service over 2.5 years ago and have called the practice/billing department at least 7 times on my own to try and get the claim handled/support their handling of it. My insurance has said they will not pay for it, and I was told that my insurance would cover some of it at the time of service. The bill is for almost $5,000, so I applied for financial hardship assistance. My application has been in their hands for over a year and a half and completely neglected. I told the billing department that they had my application, of which she "magically" found, discussed my financial state with the practice manager and now are asking me to pay about $2,400 - "the max amount of discount they can offer." That is 10% of my yearly earnings, I am a student, and have to live/eat. I asked how this number was decided upon, and the practice manager simply said "that's what we can offer you." I've been waiting 2.5 years for this to be handled and that's all she could say to me. The practice manager Amberley and billing specialist Virginia have no clue what they are doing. The staff has done absolutely nothing while they continue to send me bills that I was told were being handled. The lack of promptness, professionalism, billing etiquette, and customer service simply APPALLS me. DO NOT SEEK SERVICE AT THIS CENTER. YOU WILL BE NEGLECTED AND RIPPED OFF. The providers have always been great to me, but the pure exorbitant mishandling of this situation should be reason enough for you to not seek care there. GO ANYWHERE ELSE EXCEPT AKNC. Referred here by my provider for ADHD and Autism evaluation. Within 10 minutes Keith Youngblood told me I couldn't be autistic because I'm married and autistic people don't get married. Then told me that even though he could see I might have ADHD he would not be testing me for that because "the only reason to seek a diagnosis is for medication" and I can't take stimulants with epilepsy. Spent the next 4 hours wasting my time playing with blocks as he tested me for TBI. He did not even know what EMDR was. Can't wait for the bill I will receive after getting 4 hours of red flags. Every test he ran, he proudly told me was 50-80 years old. Run away. read more

Working with this clinic is very difficult and frustrating. It takes weeks and sometimes months to get appointments. It is almost impossible to get the scheduling department on the phone. When you call, the front desk employee answers and says he will transfer you to scheduling. When you get transferred you are sent to voicemail, then it can take up to 3-5 days for the department to call you back. I had a form that needed to be filled out for my primary office and it took one month from my first appointment to get the forms appointment scheduled. I gave the form to the office 2 weeks prior to my appointment, and when I showed up the DR. had not yet looked at the form and was very rushed to complete it during our scheduled time while she read through the directions. The form was not properly completed and now a new appointment needs to be set up. So frustrating! Besides this, I provided the office with my previous MRIs and by the second appointment with my provider she still had never reviewed the MRIs. Disappointing. read more

This review is strictly for the café area on the ground floor. I came in here to do some studying for a couple of hours. I remember this used to be the Borders Books and Music a number of years ago. They had a large sign displayed on the building that the café was open to the public. I was in the mood to find a new coffee shop instead of having to go to Starbucks again across the street. It was a rather unorthodox place to hang out but when I came in, the café was clean and spotless with several tables and chairs laid out in front of the fireplace. There's also a large overhead TV screen by the fireplace that's on a 24-hour news cycle. It looks like they kept the Borders Books design of the counter and seating area as well as adding a very large aquarium with several beautiful exotic species of fish and coral. This was a nice touch on their part to place it next to the seating area while reading or studying. The employee here gave me a friendly greeting and encouraged me to stay and hang out without feeling like I was imposing on the place. They also provide free Wi-Fi for guests and no password is needed to log on to the network. They have a full menu with coffee drinks as well as sandwiches, chips, and assorted sodas. The coffee here is pretty good. I ordered a 16 oz. English Toffee latte and they also have the Green Tea muffins with white chocolate chips from the local business Illusions Food Co. off of Spenard that I love so much. I am glad that I came in here. Most of the customers here are patients or medical personnel from the center, but outside customers and students are welcome to come in here according to the employees I spoke to. The atmosphere is pleasant and it is definitely a place I would recommend for studying. The reason I kept this at four stars rather than five is that there are no outlets available anywhere. I would come to this café only if you have a battery at full power for your laptop or portable device. read more

I would never recommend this clinic. While the doctor seems to be fine, I could not deal with the unprofessional staff. I was told on two occasions by two different medical assistants that they would take care of getting a massage therapy referral from the doctor for me, so that my insurance would assist in paying for this. This was not done. In addition to speaking with them face to face, I left three voice mail messages pertaining to the same request, still with no return call or result. I was simply asking for something that the doctor had recommended to relieve my migraine. It wasn't like I was asking for drugs, just a referral for massage therapy. In addition to this, the clinic demands payment before any service and it appears charges the maximum that can be charged for that service, without regard to the contracted price with the insurance company. Now, I find myself leaving multiple voice mail messages attempting to get my money, that I overpaid to them, refunded. On a positive note, I did find the women running the infusion clinic to be professional and helpful. However, I have taken my business elsewhere and would recommend to anyone already dealing with a headache not to go to this clinic. read more

This is the worst clinic I've ever been to. Front desk are not welcoming at all. You always have to fill out a sleep apnea form each visit when that's not even why you're there. To schedule an appointment you have to leave a message requesting an appointment and then hope you answer when they call back. Same for the billing department. Our first appointment we waited more than an hour to get taken back. Another appointment I waited over and hour in the waiting room and then over an hour in the exam room!! My daughter fell asleep waiting. Doc finally came in (no apology). We left after the office was closed so no one could take my payment, schedule my next appointment, or request my daughter's records so I'd never have to return. Now over a year later, I'm getting a bill for a procedure. Do NOT go to this Neurology center. They do not have the patient in mind. read more

I would not recommend using this medical provider. The billing department is defensive when asked to explain charges. I had to resort to having my insurance company intervene. I needed clarification why they are overcharging what they are contracted with my insurance company allows. The billing dept provided an excuse that they use different type of toxin that other specialities use and is therefore more expensive. I wanted clarification of what it is specifically and how many units are to be used. The rep was unable to answer. She called me back to tell me what my portion is and recorded the conversation without my knowledge. I informed the office manager and he defended her actions. Overcharging creates higher out of pocket. Asking for clarification resulted in hostile treatment towards me. Admittedly, I was not pleasant when I was told by my ins they were overcharging me. But, I was not abusive. I let them know I was reporting this overcharge situation and deceptive business practice. I can only assume this is why they violated my trust by recording our conversations. The phone calls pertained to my care and are not being released to me. So, if you use this facility...be sure they are chaging the correct amount, find out what they will be giving you and assume they are recording you. Confer with your insurance company to make sure they are not overcharging. My ins company told me they are required to refund any over payment. But, in this case, my out of pocket was large and they refused to take payments. This procedure is medically necessary for me. And, billing refused to allow me to make payments after I told them the insurance company explained what they are contracted to charge. read more

AKNC is a horrific clinic to deal with! They attempted to withhold my medical records which is a violation of HIPPA. I have emails and BBB records showing they were withholding my medical records due to resisting to pay a fraudulent claim. I have a response from Department of Health and Human services stating they violated the Federal Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information and/or the Security Standards for the Protection of Electronic Protected Health Information. My complaint was resolved informally, if a similar allegation of noncompliance is made against AKNC a formal investigation may be initiated. Dr. Henzler is very angry, confrontational and down right rude. I was a new patient and had a terrible experience. Luckily, I was given over to Dr. Sanchez who is so nice and professional. I had a nerve test done in January and the physician was both very rude and didn't wash his hands before or after the procedure. My experience at Alaska Neurology is mixed. While I found the Medical Professionals , specifically Drs. Kennedy and Broderick to be friendly helpful and courteous and the front desk help to be the same. I cannot find one positive thing to say about the Operations Manager Eli Lehrmann. Mr. Lehrmann was rude, condescending, and had an arrogance about him that was beyond unprofessional. I felt both verbally and physically threatened by him, lied too, dismissed and brushed off, his attitude was appalling. Alaska Neurology demands payment upfront for services but when asked to provide detailed bills as to where and how my money was being applied they;specifically Mr. Lehrmann refused to provide them; creating an immediate climate of hostility and mistrust. His expectation seems to be, just hand us your CC and let us bill with no accountability. I've requested detailed billing statements numerous times, was promised face to face meetings to assure accountability which never occurred despite repeated requests. I've asked for Medical Records and Doctor notes numerous times to no avail. It's a shame that with the small number of Neurological providers locally, what seemed to be a place with caring and Professional Medical staff can be stained by the unprofessional attitude of one person. Though I thought the Doctors were great, I wouldn't return specifically because of the rude and unprofessional attitude of Mr. Lehrmann. read more

I had a horrible experience here. Waiting 2 months for an appointment. 2 days before my appointment I got an email saying it would be a $0 payment to see the dr. When I showed up they wanted $800! That was to just see the dr! The lady at the front said that wouldn't cover any treatments or diagnosis. I couldn't pay that so I had to leave. A week later I get a bill in the mail for $100. When I talked to them about it they said it was bc I was a no show. I explained what had happened and that I was there and she said it was that I either pay the $100 or they take me to court! Really people?! I don't expect free service but when you need to see a specialist and are tight on money this doesn't help your condition. Sounds fishy to me. I even called my ins and told them what happened and they said that sounded fishy too. The staff wasn't bad but they also weren't very good either. Thieves! This office has by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I attempt to contact them FOR MONTHS regarding an incorrect bill. I've left voicemails and never received a call back. Today, I called and reached the receptionist and asked her to direct me to a live person in billing. I was sent to voicemail. I called back multiple times and spoke to this same receptionist who continued to transfer me to voicemail and later hung up on me. After telling her I would be driving to the office if she hung up on me again, she transferred me to Amberlee, who stated she is the manager of the entire clinic. I expressed to her my frustration as this whole ordeal had now taken up over 45 minutes of my time. Instead of trying to solve the problem, she explained to me that I had been tying up the phone lines and justified the receptionist's behavior for repeatedly transferring me to voicemail and hanging up on me, for which I responded that this whole thing could have been avoided if she had taken two minutes to communicate with me, let me know no billing specialists were available and recommend a good time to call back. Additionally, when Amberlee verified my contact information so someone could call me back, all three phone numbers in my file were WRONG! I will not be returning to this clinic. read more

Horrible! I have an excellent doctor here, but he is the only reason I visit this practice. I followed him when he transferred from another practice and wish he would leave this one ASAP! Their admin staff is atrocious. They are rude, argumentative, and extremely unprofessional. Their billing practices boarder on the line of illegal. They estimate how much your insurance will cover and demand you pay what they ESTIMATE your portion will be days before your appointment. When your insurance pays more than they estimated good luck getting a refund. It took 9 months to get a refund after they over billed me by $1,900. I still didn't get a refund, it was a credit. Who knows if it really went through because their admin staff talk down to you and harass you if you ask for a statement of your account. Don't ask for their manager Eli, he'll verbally assault you, belittle you, and remind you how busy their practice is and how unimportant your business is.
