Can't say enough good things about our experience with Alaska Overlander. For two weeks we rented Nanook (4runner) travelled all over Alaska and it was great. This was a our first time sleeping in a rooftop tent and at first I hated it - After three days I LOVED it! So much so that now we're shopping for a RTT of our own. Both the hubby and I have been off-roading in our 1996 Landcruiser so we are very experienced drivers. When we rented Nanook the caster/alignment was off which made driving straight a bit of a challenge. Craig did note the issue as he was driving over to pick us up. We made sure to remind Craig about the issue when we returned Nanook. When you rent these rigs just understand that you're renting the bare minimum when it comes to kitchen setup. No seasonings except salt and pepper, no hot pads, etc. Our rig did not include measuring cups and we were mostly cooking freeze dried meals so we stopped at Target and bought some. When we returned the rig, we left the cups so hopefully the next person who rents Nanook will have measuring cups. Also Nanook's cook set is stainless steel so when you cook eggs in the morning - Good Luck and cleaning... Would have much preferred that the cook set was non-stick but it is what it is. Thankfully we are not big coffee drinkers but the coffee pot they include is too small the large burners on the stove. So we used the pots to boil water for tea and hot coco. Overall renting from Alaska Overlander was an incredible experience and we already want to come back and rent with them again to explore more of Alaska. Alaska Overland is an excellent option when you either can't take enough time off of work to drive your own truck up to Alaska OR if you don't have an off-road truck at all. The wife and I recently spent 8 days in Alaska and had the joy of the Denali 4-Runner. This was our first time doing anything like this and found the whole experience wonderful. Outside of food, beverages and spices the Denali came with everything we needed for an upgraded off road camping adventure. The tent was comfortable and easy to set up along with the awning and it was great having a fridge with its own dedicated power source. Over the course of amazing trip we did not experience any issues and the Denali was a comfortable ride for some of the longer drives. Plenty of outlets and plug options for charging up gear on the road. The staff were super helpful and informative and we even got to use a brand new portable propane fire pit and camper shell. Highly recommended and looking forward to coming back for an even longer road trip. read more

So excited that I found Alaska Overlander and that it exceeded any expectation I had for my first time ever overlanding. Every step of the process was super smooth and Brook and Craig are so helpful in planning, drop-off, and any questions we had along the way. Myself and two friends rented Denali for 6 days in June and wish it was for longer! The rig comes packed with top quality equipment that a lot of thought and care went into to make sure all worked well. From the little things like a cellphone mount in the drivers seat all the way down to the fridge set up in the back, definitely gave me some good ideas for gear to buy myself :) You really have everything you need to fly in and get on the road to start exploring. The walkthrough was very helpful, and made set-up and take-down a breeze the days we rented. Three people fit comfortably in the top tent, and there was plenty of room for our luggage in the seats/back along with all the gear. Really hope to go back to Alaska sometime again soon, but in the meantime I'm telling everyone I know to get booked with Alaska Overlander for an epic adventure! read more

Superb experience. Craig and Brook were wonderful hosts, going out of their way to ensure that our trip was all that it could be. The truck came stocked with a full cooking and cutlery setup including gas, table, and chairs. Gear in the rig is all top quality. Their attention to detail really set them apart: they included paper towels, TP, dish soap/sponge, and even some hand warmers and a heavy duvet considering we rented in March. We got to ANC around 2am, and despite this they still took time to make sure we knew where all the gear was and how to operate the tent topper before we set off. The lifted '20 4Runner with Toyo Open Countrys stayed confident even on snow covered ice and steep snowy dirt roads, and we had no trouble driving over Thompson Pass near Valdez in near-whiteout conditions. All-in-all we had a wonderful trip thanks to this couple, and would recommend AK Overlander to anyone looking for a well-built rig and excellent local knowledge at a great price. read more

I rented their 4x4 Toyota 4Runner named Denali for my 50th birthday adventure. The owners are awesome. They brought the rig to us at our hotel on the morning we were heading out on the road. This vehicle was fully equipped for us to live off grid for several days and nights. The rig has the IKamper on the roof which is plenty big for two people to sleep comfortably. The pop up tent comes with mattresses, down pillows and a down comforter. We added a small propane heater to knock down the chill before going to bed and upon waking (we camped at the end of September and early October). Their rigs are also outfitted with a dometic refrigerator that runs on 12volt (a second battery is in the vehicle) which keeps your cold food and drinks cold for the duration of your journey, the fridge also keeps your liquids from freezing if the outside temps go below freezing! The rig also comes with a propane stove, a five gallon propane tank, two Frontrunner camp chairs, a camp table, camp cookware, silverware, salt and pepper, paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, collapsible sink, battery powered lantern and a hammock. I'm probably forgetting a few things too! The bottom line. If you want to experience Alaska off the grid and off the paved roads, book a vehicle from Alaska Overlander and travel in comfort and safety with a fully equipped off-road camping rig. My wife and I camped above the Arctic Circle in comfort and style! Craig and Brook, the owners, are super good folk. They are excellent with communicating in a timely fashion and run a top notch business. Alaska Overlander is your ticket to a truly unique experience of The Last Frontier. Everything seemed fine with these guys until the week after I returned the vehicle. Then some "significant damage" suddenly appeared that wasn't there when I returned it and we did an inspection. The owner told me "everything looks good" when we inspected it upon return but now they want hundreds of dollars to replace a wheel because they say it's scraped, and more money because they say there are minor scuffs and scratches. I'm disputing it since it's obvious they are just making up a way to overcharge. I'll post an update but meanwhile beware doing business with them. read more

Details, details....I was one of the lucky ones that had the opportunity to have both cars, Nannok and Denali. And I can tell you that both are amazing!! This is the place. Craig and Brook are true Alaskans that actually camp and travel all around Alaska, so they know what you will need for your trip. No rookies here. The details made a huge difference, they thought about everything that you may need and you have it. From my private refrigerator inside the Car, from clean sheets, utensils, stove, knifes, that are actually sharp, and videos on how to manage the car. I'm a single mom with a 13 yr old daughter and we had the best experience ever. Can wait to be back during late summer. read more

I can't recommend Alaska Overlander enough! "Denali" was perfect for our adventure. The truck was clearly put together with care and attention to detail, we had everything we needed for some great off grid camping and adventuring! The fridge/cooler was perfect for meals, we got groceries for 3 people for a week and didn't have to restock at all.
