We checked in with about 10 other people. Their process was streamlined and efficient. We were in a room in 1/2 hour. All personal were great but a special shout out to Dr. Smith. I have never seen a doctor with such wonderful manners and concern and compassion. He was funny and had my mom at ease immediately. We both loved him. He walked us to the exit door. While at the hospital, I had to pick an on-call pediatrician from one of two places in Georgetown to come examine the baby. After having a sour experience with the other office, I choose Bluegrass Pediatrics. I met Dr. Knight that evening at Georgetown Hospital and liked him so much that we decided to stick with him at Bluegrass Pediatrics instead of the pediatrician in Lexington that I had originally planned to see. I'm glad we did. Dr. Knight has given us the best care, always listening to us -- even if he didn't agree with us. The staff members at Bluegrass Pediatrics itself are very friendly and polite. They are also quick to get us in for an appointment within the same or next day as needed.... and have a pediatrician available for phone calls when office hours are closed. The office may not be bright and flashy, but don't let that fool you. (They are also a family practice, it's not just for kids -- so your kids can go here for their entire lives!) There is also a separate sick and well area, although you have to walk through the sick area to get to the front desk/doctor anyway. Sadly, we are not currently patients at Bluegrass Pediatrics as of this month because of a change in insurance. It is a bit frustrating (especially as we had a medical need for our child recently), but it is what it is. I'm still thankful for the care my son received here. Highly recommend.

Now that they are older and should be able to consult their primary care physician on uncomfortable questions they don't want to ask their parents, we find they can't. We were told to "pick a gynecologist" if we were interested in contraception to control period symptoms. Reproductive care IS healthcare, and PAA is not only abdicating this responsibility but putting a barrier between patients and this care by requiring them to go to a specialist that their parents may not have time or money to visit. It makes patients feel like this part of their health and body is "other" and requires special effort and extra money. It's BS. This is especially surprising given PAA's stance on the HPV vaccine (see another user's review here). It's kind of understandable if they do not have the bandwidth for this, but they need to say so up front and start referring kids away from their practice at puberty. It's hard enough being born female in this world; we should ALL be able to depend on our primary care physicians to look out for ALL areas of our health and provide basic support and care before referral to a specialist. I have previous experience in another state where the doctor was all over this--asked all the hard questions and was clearly looking out for my step-daughter's care, head to toe. The only reason that this review is three stars and not one is that we HAVE gotten great care here, so if you have a boy, go for it. Sharon Menkus is particularly good, and we will miss her. She's so genuinely knowledgeable and supportive that I was really puzzled and disappointed by the wall we got when asking about reproductive care.

They were able to get my daughter in on short notice after she took a hard fall and hit her head (she's a toddler). It was the worst fall she's had and they got her in and x-rayed within an hour! 1 star docked because I have had to wait a couple times in the patient rooms for a long time (15-20 minutes once). Also, I feel like the two doctors I've seen so far at this practice know far, far less about allergies than I do. I have allergies myself; it's a lifelong educational process. My daughter has multiple food allergies. We are seeing a different doctor next week at PAA. The receptionists are totally fine with you asking to see a different doctor, which I like. It's nice that there is a variety of people you can choose for your child's pediatrician.

I looked on the website and noticed Dr Kostelnik and her husband were a couple of the doctors. We love this doctor as she's been our pediatrician for all 3 children. It had to be a great place then right? No. Dr. K was not there which was fine but the Nurse (didn't catch name but she's big and tall) was rude to us from the get go. Took up in to get weight and sent us back out because front desk had her Bday wrong by 2 days. Anyways, we get back there and long story short Rude Nurse Covid/Flu tested our daughter by putting two swabs at a time in each nostril making her cry and then making her nose bleed. She's had these tests serval times and never had a nose bleed especially in both nostrils. Doc comes in ( older lady, very sweet) tells us test is negative and that she's has 5th Disease which is what she has had before. Rude nurse follows behind and we start having a conversation about the Nurses attitude, her aggressiveness, and the test that is now making our daughter's nose bleed. She apologized and did co firm that our daughter's nose was irritated from the swab and gave us ointment. We walked outta that place so fast and swear to never return. Staff is rude, they have no patience, no compassion and they hurt our baby.
