After having our first baby at Theda with Women's Care, we were left feeling alone, uneasy and frankly scared. We felt unprepared and left to figure everyone out on our own. The appointments were short, spent most of the time with the nurse and when it came time for delivery, our doctor wasn't even available so we knew no one. I had to advocate for myself and explain my birth plan at every nurse shift change. And when I told the doctor of our plan, her response was, "Yea, I don't do that." For my poor husband, they just kind of shoved him in the corner, never updated him and only talked to him when they said, "here, grab her leg." They totally dismissed him out of the entire experience. It was horrible. When we got pregnant again, we THANKFULLY transferred to Alba Birth Center around 21ish weeks and the experience was beyond amazing. Being a patient at Alba was life changing for not only me but also my husband. The prenatal appointments are long, 100% with the midwife and centered around education, health, and nutrition. In detail, they covered planning for our birth and most important our postpartum period. They spent so much time with my husband, answering questions and helping him navigate how to support me while also taking care of himself. They set us up for success from the very beginning. Also, Katie's Childbirth Education course is hands down, the best! Even after already having a baby, I sat there in complete awe as to how little I actually knew. I tell everyone I know about it. The birth center is beautiful, tranquil and warm. When in labor, I had this instant sense of safety and calmness when I walked into the space. Heather and Katie who did all my prenatal appointments were also at my delivery so, I knew I didn't have to advocate for myself. I knew that I was safe surrounded by a team of women who knew EXACTLY what I wanted and how I wanted it. I didn't even have to speak. I was able to completely focus on myself and my baby. Even though I wasn't a first time mom, I think the most important part of Alba was their postpartum care. You see them multiple times after delivery - 24 hours, 1 week, 3 weeks, and 6 weeks. They made me feel so supported and loved as I navigated breastfeeding for the first time. You have access to the midwives 24/7 for every question or worry. Literally, they will respond at any time of the day. I also loved that the midwives were the primary care provider for our baby too. I could literally write a novel about how much I loved my experience at Alba. The team is so knowledgeable and kind. It is evident that they love their patients and the work that they do. You feel it as soon as you walk in the doors for your prenatal appointments. If you're thinking about Alba, do it! It will be the best decision you ever make! read more

Our family loves Alba! We have birthed all 3 of our children at Alba with midwife Heather. Unfortunately, our 2nd child came a bit early and had to be born at our local hospital. (Completely traumatic experience) But Heather was right there by my side at 1am....a day before Christmas! Our family is so grateful for all of the women at Alba. They are all so kind, caring and so knowledgeable. I have always felt so comfortable and heard from my first appointment all the way through to my 6 week postpartum/baby appointment. The midwives at Alba care not only about the baby, but they also pay special attention to the mother and her postpartum recovery. 2023 momma- I switched over from the standard hospital care to Alba at 20 weeks and am forever greatful I did. Here's a few reasons why; for starters the facility is just beautiful making the experience of bringing your child into the world just a little bit more sweet. As a first time momma I had so many questions that I feel like I never had the time to ask in the traditional health care setting where as at every appointment with each of the midwives I felt heard and not rushed on to the next patient. Midwife Katie also teaches classes that are SO informative I would recommend those to anyone who is expecting. Postpartum appointments they really made sure both baby and I were in the best position we could be-again answering all the questions that come along with becoming a new parent. And the cherry on top is, the ladies at the front desk are always so welcoming and excited to see you every time you walk through the door. My husband and I recently (January) had our beautiful baby boy through Alba birth Center. I have constantly had it on my heart to review their services and recommend them to as many people I possibly can. I have nothing but glowing and raving reviews for this stunning center and the highly professional and knowledgeable staff who work there. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with exuberant JOY and support for the glorious journey you are embarking on. They truly believe children are a treasure and go above and beyond to ensure every woman and man are cared for with intention, expert care, and loving service. It was beyond anything my husband and I could have hoped for or expected. The midwives, Heather and Katie at the time, offered poignant advice and direction for any questions or concerns we may have had, were extremely capable and astute in their practice, and were some of the most real and comfortable women to share such a vulnerable and precious experience with. As a woman I felt safe, empowered, encouraged, and supported to the umpteenth. These women really do champion prenatal and postnatal care. PLUS, after our little (big) guy was born, they walked hand in hand with us for months making sure we were off to a successful and confident start. This included continued breastfeeding and mastitis support, answering a completely green new parent's questions at all hours of the day (and night‍), scheduling random extra visits on their off days to help us along the way with our sleep deprivation journey, and beyond. Seriously, if you are thinking about having a baby, or are already having a baby, and want to have as natural, connected, and intuitive of a birth experience possible, these ladies are a perfect fit. They are experienced and confident at working with a myriad of different situations and circumstances. I CANNOT recommend enough. I went to Alba for prenatal care and signed up for their services with the desire to have my baby at their birth center. I signed a contract for their cash pay package, which was for $4400.00. I received decent care during the prenatal appointments. I would go in, talk about how things were going, they would take my vitals, check baby's heartbeat with the doppler, feel around my abdomen and overall the appointments went quick and were rather unremarkable. My mother in law wanted to give us a payment toward the midwife care. Their office manager violated HIPPA and released my personal financial information to her during a phone call. The office manager told her we were having a rough financial time and persuaded my mother-in-law to pay the remaining balance of $2900.00. This is not information that I wanted disclosed to my mother-in-law and I do not believe most people in that situation would be comfortable disclosing their financial hardships. My mother-in-law was also told at that time that if the baby were not born at their facility, we would get a refund. I ended up being about 1.5 weeks overdue with the baby. My midwife, Andi, referred me to Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. I went there for a Biophysical profile ultrasound and my baby scored very low and he was showing signs of severe stress. The doctor advised that I go over to labor and delivery at the main hospital and start the process of having my baby. After 36 hours of labor, I needed to have an emergency cesarean. My baby was born healthy and I was doing well after the birthing process. I was in the hospital for 5 days and I received no visit from Andi, my midwife, that I had seen my entire pregnancy. This was incredibly disappointing. The cash pay package included a birth photography session. Since I did not deliver at the birthing center that was not offered to me. Alba proudly states that every mother gets that as part of the birth package. Not only was it not offered to me during my five day stay at Bellin hospital, I was not offered any photo session following my discharged from the hospital. Naturally, we asked for a refund due to not having the baby at their birth center. We were reminded of the contract that we signed that states after 37 weeks no refunds would be given after medical transfers out of their care. This is confusing to me because my mother-in-law was told that a refund would be issued in the event the baby could not be born at their facility. I asked for a breakdown of the charges to better understand the care I had paid for and to better understand the situation. Andi responded that they were advised by their attorney that a breakdown could not be given because it is a global package and the labor and delivery are free services by the time you get past all the prenatal appointments. I was first attracted to midwifery care after hearing stories of the more personalized care you receive. In the end, I feel I became just a customer they received money from. Sometimes it's the little things, a visit in the hospital after you have had a scary and unplanned birth experience or a new baby photo session because you missed out on a birth photography session due to giving birth in the hospital. After his birth we met with Andi and discussed how we were unhappy about not receiving a refund or any compensation. During this time, no offer or compromise was made, and no offer of photography was mentioned either. Seven months later, I am still incredibly unhappy and dissatisfied with my Alba experience I urge expectant mothers to beware what you sign up for when working with a modern day midwife through Alba. On top of paying $4400.00 to Alba for a care we did not receive, we incurred additional costly expenses due to having the baby at a hospital. This has been a stressful and disappointing experience, however, I hope others can benefit from learning about my regrettable choice in choosing Alba birth center. read more

I had a horrendous experience with this place, and it cost over $2100 of hard saved money. My midwife left on town the week of my due date and left me in the "care" of the other midwife that I had never even met. I had questions regarding a serious medical situation and was totally blown off and told that it was not a big deal and not dangerous, she was really defensive and rude and made me feel uncomfortable about my questions. This left me 5 days from my due date totally stressed out and looking for a new care provider since I no longer felt comfortable with the situation. In the end it would have been life threatening to have been at the Alba center and I'm glad I didn't end up being there for the birth. This all left me totally scarred by the whole thing, and unfortunately totally untrusting in small midwifery centers. I would never consider going to a place like this again. I also never heard anything regarding returning the over $2100 that I had already paid towards my care either which consisted of about 4 or 5 appointments with the midwife, not worth over $2100!! I can't say enough good things about my experience at Alba Birth Center. As a first time mother, I had a list of questions a mile long at each appointment. My midwife, Andi, and the midwives in training, Heather and Katie, gave me the time of day to answer all of my questions. Andi's confidence and care left me feeling comforted and cared for at each appointment. I had a nightmare of a time trying to get a straight answer from my insurance company about what would be covered, and Katie went above and beyond to try to get the issue resolved for me. In the end, we ended up doing the cash payment for $4400 and it was worth every penny! During my birth, Andi and Heather knew exactly what I needed to hear to help me have my daughter the way I wanted to, and the pictures we have are absolutely priceless. I ended up needing to be transferred to the hospital because of a retained placenta and Andi knew when it was time to utilize the hospital and I am so grateful. I would highly recommend Alba Birth Center and will continue to return to them for my future births! read more

I have to consciously avoid thinking of this place because it causes me such anger and stress. I signed the contract and spoke to both andi and my doula about how I wanted to do the cash package because I wasn't sure my insurance would cover it and even if they did it would end up being cheaper for me. Yet after my birth they show me a document showing a signed copy of the insurance payment option. I feel positive I signed the alternative option as there was no way I would have knowingly signed the option to pay through my insurance. My guess is they get more money with they go through insurance. Which I guess I could blame myself on for being too eager to have found a birthing center in Wisconsin that seemed to mirror my natural lifestyle. Maybe I didn't read the document I signed thoroughly enough, however I expressed my desire to do the cash option several times to both andi and Heather so when I came in they gave me the wrong document. So they tried to bill my insurance as well and instead of paying the 4400 option they wanted me to pay 7600. And I had only gone to them at 20 weeks. Then when I talked to them about that they said "we will give you a discount due to financial hardship" which wasn't the case. I had gotten advice from another doula to be careful of this place due to some legal trouble they were in however upon research i found that it was due to insurance disputes and decided to stay with it (by that time I had signed my contract). Then I tested positive for strep b and they didn't even tell me nor take any of the necessary precautions. They merely told me something was flagged during my testing and never gave me any further information. And when my daughter was flagged for something during her infant blood test, she still wouldn't give me any information because she didn't want to worry me. If you want to send a mother into panic mode tell her that her newborn baby might have something wrong and then leave it at that with no further information. After my delivery I was concerned I wasn't healing properly and they told me I was doing fine. I ended up needing surgery post natal. Also they gave me the worst advice I've ever gotten as a parent to bed share. I now have a child that doesn't know how to self soothe or be alone in crib resulting in terrible sleep for both me and my child. I am astounded that they were awarded for their midwife services. Having said that my actual birth experience was fine and the pictures I had taken were amazing. I just with I wouldn't have trusted them as much as I did. You would think that someone in the business of bringing human life into the world could be trusted. read more
