The appointments were short, spent most of the time with the nurse and when it came time for delivery, our doctor wasn't even available so we knew no one. I had to advocate for myself and explain my birth plan at every nurse shift change. And when I told the doctor of our plan, her response was, "Yea, I don't do that." For my poor husband, they just kind of shoved him in the corner, never updated him and only talked to him when they said, "here, grab her leg." They totally dismissed him out of the entire experience. It was horrible. When we got pregnant again, we THANKFULLY transferred to Alba Birth Center around 21ish weeks and the experience was beyond amazing. Being a patient at Alba was life changing for not only me but also my husband. The prenatal appointments are long, 100% with the midwife and centered around education, health, and nutrition. In detail, they covered planning for our birth and most important our postpartum period. They spent so much time with my husband, answering questions and helping him navigate how to support me while also taking care of himself. They set us up for success from the very beginning. Also, Katie's Childbirth Education course is hands down, the best! Even after already having a baby, I sat there in complete awe as to how little I actually knew. I tell everyone I know about it. The birth center is beautiful, tranquil and warm. When in labor, I had this instant sense of safety and calmness when I walked into the space. Heather and Katie who did all my prenatal appointments were also at my delivery so, I knew I didn't have to advocate for myself. I knew that I was safe surrounded by a team of women who knew EXACTLY what I wanted and how I wanted it. I didn't even have to speak. I was able to completely focus on myself and my baby. Even though I wasn't a first time mom, I think the most important part of Alba was their postpartum care. You see them multiple times after delivery - 24 hours, 1 week, 3 weeks, and 6 weeks. They made me feel so supported and loved as I navigated breastfeeding for the first time. You have access to the midwives 24/7 for every question or worry. Literally, they will respond at any time of the day. I also loved that the midwives were the primary care provider for our baby too. I could literally write a novel about how much I loved my experience at Alba. The team is so knowledgeable and kind. It is evident that they love their patients and the work that they do. You feel it as soon as you walk in the doors for your prenatal appointments. If you're thinking about Alba, do it! It will be the best decision you ever make!

(Completely traumatic experience) But Heather was right there by my side at 1am....a day before Christmas! Our family is so grateful for all of the women at Alba. They are all so kind, caring and so knowledgeable. I have always felt so comfortable and heard from my first appointment all the way through to my 6 week postpartum/baby appointment. The midwives at Alba care not only about the baby, but they also pay special attention to the mother and her postpartum recovery. Dr. Norris is the most caring and thorough doctors I've ever encountered. My son has been seeing…read moreher since 2018 (he is now 7) for digestive issues. During our first appointment, we sat with her to discuss his whole health history and all my concerns. Every appointment thereafter, I felt like she really knew and understood him. The lab tests we've done were very comprehensive and she took the time to explain the results carefully. I better understand gut health (and it's importance!) because of her. She is very knowledgable about both natural and conventional supplements and medicine. I've never felt rushed or uncomfortable around her, like I have with other doctors. Every appointment, we've left with a clear treatment plan and next steps. I also saw her earlier this year when I was having some health issues of my own, mainly due to pandemic stress. Just as with my son, she took the time to know my health history and develop a treatment plan with supplements and lab tests. She is an expert on women's health, and I appreciated her insight on seed cycling and adrenal issues. As she transitions to mainly telehealth, I intend to continuing see her for my health needs. I wish she could be my primary health practioner because it's so difficult to find someone who really takes the time to understand the whole you.

Referrals were prompt to specialists and necessary. There weren't any unnecessary tests or appointments. I am and advocate for my health care and that is respected. If I'm not able to advocate, they work respectfully with my representative. Have there been changed...yes. Have they all been for the good....Is that all in the Doctor....No.! They are not gods. It's truly amazing what they must know to help everyone. I for one would not be here if its wasn't for my NP and Doctor.

Warning. They did not inform my wife that the midwives may not deliver your baby…read more My wife chose this specifically for a midwife. They informed her to meet all the midwives because it was not guaranteed that the one you chose would deliver your baby. My wife met with all three or four midwives during the course of her pregnancy. Come labor and delivery. The hospital called a doctor from Women's Specialty Care and informed us that ALL the midwives were off that night and that a doctor whom my wife never met would be delivering. The doctor was late to show up. My wife was ready to deliver the baby and her body was telling her to push. The nurses were telling her to wait for the doctor, which is both ridiculous and unhealthy. The doctor shows up. My wife says hi (a woman in likely the most pain of her life) the doctor doesn't acknowledge, but carries a groaning frown on her face. She delivers the baby, asks if we have questions, and takes off. Later come to find out hospital policy usually is to wait for a doctor so they can get paid for the delivery. I understand the benefit of having a doctor present, but when it is doing more harm than good by forcing a mother in labor to wait to deliver a baby so the doctor can add one more to her list of babies delivered, then it is ridiculous. This was only one small story of the shit show that happened during my wife's labor. I am grateful my daughter was born healthy, but it was by the strength of my wife not the aid of the grumpy doctor.
