After several months of stomach pain, I went to my regular doctor and he referred me to this place. The doctor I saw (name intentionally omitted) was very good and took a long time to listen to my story and find out what I thought was going on. He has two different offices (one north in Clifton Park, and one south in Albany) and very early hours on certain days (like 7:30AM, which is perfect for me). We discussed various symptoms I had and in the end came to an agreement to start a new medication and see how things are going in a couple of weeks. He made me feel very comfortable during the entire process. Their sign-in procedure involves using tablets, which I suppose are better than paper forms. The place was easy to get to, and there was plenty of seating in the waiting room. I sometimes end my reviews with "I can't wait to go back" but that doesn't seem right for a specialized doctor's office! However, I do feel comfortable going back again for my follow-up. read more

The never ending scheduling problems continue even after a "change in system". Can't make a 6 mo follow-up appointment at the conclusion of a visit. When calling two months ahead of next required visit, the doctor is all booked. No follow-up, no system to keep patient informed, no way to know when is the optimal time to attempt to schedule next visit. Scheduling staff is uncaring and going through the motions. After being on hold for twenty minutes, finally got someone obviously working unsupervised from home with a dog barking while I try to explain my needs. Gave her my name and doctors name. After a a pause I got : "Date birth?", followed by :"Name?" No courtesy, obviously no caring. Just another annoying caller, no interest in trying to solve the problem. I stand by what I said. Dr cliff is a fraud. He was deliberately poisoning me. I had Gerd and completely reversed it with the master cleanse every morning and after meal. He was keeping me on the one drug "omeprazole" that was making me worse. He had me on it for 10+ years. Omeprazole should not be used as a long term treatment. He's a fraud. read more

I have been a patient with this practice for years now, I have many issues which require multiple test on a yearly basis, recently I have been experiencing problems with a scheduler of Dr Sheehans who has given the wrong health care info and when I finally had my insurance straightened it out after multiple phone calls they have not called me back to set up my procedures. This is unacceptable, and I can't help but wonder if it's deliberate because I had to have the health care reps call them. Also I have read other reviews and I agree that I rarely see the actual Dr, and response after procedures are poor. read more

There was a period when their phone system was horrible, I've been on hold over one hour, only to be cut off. It is much better now in 2025. The doctors have been good and kind. The NPs mostly good and kind. I am staying with this practice. I had 3 endoscopy and 3 colonoscopy with Dr Sheehan and found him a good man to deal with. Been going here for over a year and feel just like another number. Doc is nice but doesnt remember me from a hole in a wall. Doesn't even review my chart prior to entering the room. Been dealing with such horrible issues and nothing is better. I understand they are not miracle workers and they thousands of patients, but at least remembering what medications HE put me on would be nice. Went for a scheduled fibroscan today . Waiting in office over 90 minutes . Was told they had not one to do the scan. Now why could they have told me that sooner. I was not happy and they did not know when they would find someone to do the scan . So I left. Not sure about this place anymore. I want to start off by saying I love my doctor at this practice. The rest of the practice has been extraordinarily frustrating. As someone with a chronic illness, I do not have the luxury of going without a GI doc so I have had to make do with this practice. I've had many phone calls go unreturned and when I ask questions through the portal, I rarely get a response and if so, I get an answer to one of the three questions I asked with no reference to any other questions. Every time they have to resubmit a prior auth for my prescription, they put in the wrong form of the prescription and I have to go through a whole process to get it corrected. I do not feel cared for as a patient at this practice other than when I rarely get to see the actual doctor. I recognize that they are busy but I don't feel as though I am asking for much more than answers to some questions here and there. read more

Albany Gastroenterology Consultants made it easy for me to be interviewed for a colonoscopy by calling me here at home after my primary care doctor referred me to them. We set the date for the colonoscopy, I received the preparation directions through USPS, had questions about it that they answered quickly on the phone, arrived there in Albany at 10 a.m. for my 11 a.m. procedure, was quickly admitted by friendly staff, was prepped for the procedure again by friendly and understanding staff, Dr. Clift introduced himself, I went out like a light, woke 40 minutes later, and was home by 1:15 p.m. Could not have been easier or smoother from start to finish. Clean and comfortable facility with very nice waiting area for my husband and driver. I totally recommend. read more

What happened to this place? I've been a patient of Dr.Ben's since 2007, but he left last year. After being assigned to Dr. Sheehan, I've been forgotten and cannot even get my prescription filled, let alone an appointment. I'm scared. I have pre-cancer of the esophagus and no one here seems to care. You cannot communicate with this office. I'm extremely upset about this. I've been with this practice for 12 years. Not sure what has happened but it is now impossible to communicate with my doctor. You cannot reach a real person when you call the main number. Everything must be communicated through the portal except they have a new computer system and I now cannot get into the portal. There is no help desk or avenue to reach someone who can help me with this. The nurse is obviously overwhelmed and I can't even leave a message on her voicemail any longer. I had tests done 2 months ago that I am waiting for results. I've tried to make an appointment but guess what? No one calls me back! Time for a new doctor. This is terrible. read more

Since my last colonoscopy, I made preparations in depth to make sure everything was going to go according to plan this time. For my colonoscopy this November 10, it seems like things were pretty well run Like clockwork. I was well prepared myself restricting all food the day before and all liquids eight hours prior to the procedure. The procedure was at 2 PM. I was there about an hour ahead of time, but they took me fairly quickly. The nurses were courteous and the Procedure went flawless. I was given propofol instead of the usual medication, ensuring that I would not wake up in the middle. To my surprise, after a slight ache in the hand when the medication went in, which is routine, I was out like a light and the procedure was over in a matter of what seem to be minutes. I've been going to Albany Gastroenterology since I moved back to New York State in 2004 or 2005, and would not ever change to any other practice. Albany Gastroenterology has an awesome group of specialists and also wonderful support staff, as well. My original gastroenterologist was Dr. Fiorenza, who has recently retired. He took his time explaining everything and was a very gentle person. He definitely had a way about him that helped to erase any concerns or fear that I might have had. I just met my new gastroenterologist and am confident in him already! I know that every one of these specialists are the best in what they do, and I'm quite satisfied with picking them years ago, as their level of excellence has always been at the top of the gastroenterology profession! read more

Have been a patient for over 25 years. Went for a prescription and was told that I needed a colonoscopy as I had not had one in quite a while. No discussion. She brought me over to scheduling and told them to set me up. Colonoscopy, mammograms are covered under my insurance. Well I received a bill for over $300. The said had not been 10 years. I called and they refused to work with me. I told them the nurse practitioner more or less forced this. It did seem funny it was rushed before I turned 70, as that is the cut off for colonoscopy if you have no issues. WON'T BE GOING BACK. WOULD NOT EVEN LET ME TALK TO THE DOCTOR read more

This office does not take the necessary COVID precautions for protecting their patients. My appt was for 3:15. I was told to arrive at 3pm. I sat in a waiting room with ranged from 8-15 patients for 60 minutes. One patient was coughing and another refused to pull up his mask. I was not offered the opportunity to wait in my car. I again had to wait to schedule a follow- up appointment. For a 3 minute examine I never left the office till 5pm. read more

I saw a Dr there in Sept .He said you need a colonoscopy and endoscopy. He gave me an appt for Jan. So if I need one that bad why are you waiting 4.5 months. They called in the med for it to the pharmacy which I refused to pick up bec I didn't want it sitting around for 4.5 months.So its now about a week before.I realized I didn't have the instructions.I call the office and had to leave a VM.Nobody calls me back so I call again.I get this very rude woman who is grilling me about why I didn't have the original instructions/I don't know where they went.I guess I misplaced them.Afterall,I got them 4.5 months prior.I have no clue where they are.So this girl was very rude to me. Then she hangs up on me.So this is at the time a few days before the procedure. So I get a call from them four days before for my pre-op questioning.I mentioned I had no directions.She sends me 6 pages of instructions. I saw them come in I briefly ;looked at them. When I went to find them again they had disappeared. So I go fill the RX,It was a large bottle with the med in the bottom.I was supposed to just add water. I prepared it and put the bottle in the fridge. So I called on Sat to say I needed the instructions. again.I got the On Call PA .She was very nice. She resent me the instructions.They were one page compared to six pages that the other person sent that disappeared.I started reading them.So Im reading them and the meds were different from the meds I had already filled at the RX that were now chilling in my fridge.I read further and saw a lot of things were different and opposite from what I had read originally read.I got really frustrated and upset. I decided to cancel partly bec of bad weather coming and partly because this made me so angry. Find a different group to go t. I agree with other comments on here. The office staff needs to be more accomodating to patients.It used to be a nice practice. I like my doctor but, I believe it was taken over by a large group . Its lost its appeal to me. Very serious issue here with patients not being able to reach a live person. Don't have so many doctors and patients if the practice is unable to do its job professionally, appropriately and with the required human touch. We are people and customers and should be treated as such. It doesn't matter how good a doctor is if there is not even enough patient respect and concern to warrant live people answering the phone and assisting patients and calls back same day. The medical profession needs to take stock. It's focused on profit and assembly-line procedures and has lost touch with it's purpose and oath. read more

My mother suffered with daily diarrhea for two YEARS because these people couldn't be bothered to actually think about her list of medications. they were happy to order colonoscopy, etc. but did not do the most basic work of actually looking at the history and current medications. When one medication was stopped, the problem disappeared overnight. If you're a GI practice you really should be aware of what drugs could cause GI issues. read more

I went to Albany Gastroenterology for severe stomach pain. A CT with contrast was ordered. It was completed Friday morning. Monday- no results. Tuesday-no results ( even though I called daily and checked my patient portal). Finally in Wednesday I received a call from my GPs office with the results. I emailed ( through my patient portal) asking why he would have the results and I didn't ,,, I received a call with the results and finally it was entered into my patient portal. The report in my portal and the results sent to my GP were polar opposite !!! Mine said no gallstones or fatty liver, the true report shows both gallstones and fatty liver! And the patient portal on my medical history shows under alcohol consumption " 4 girls" .... what the heck does that mean???? Unprofessional at the very least,,, NEVER will I return or refer anyone. read more

What has occured is that this Practice started off with pure Perfection. Then greed set in and it grew in Size and Patients. This is when the Patient Care went to the Worst Position ! I had a Procedure and ended up in Hospital with Bleeding. The Doctor was too Rushed. I Strongly Suggest a Practice where the CARE IS GOOD !!!! Their phone operating system is absolutely BE. I have covid symptoms and tried canceling my appointment since 10am this morning. multiple calls, voicemails, no call back. 4pm I receive a call, I think, great! but no, it's an automated message saying I have an appointment tomorrow and if I don't show it's a $50 no-show fee. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO CALL ALL DAY! no one answers the phone, they recommend you use the portal, but then the portal says call because it's 24 hours before the appointment. But I have covid symptoms and am in isolation. do you want me to just show up? finally get a call back at 4:15 telling me the appointment is canceled, but why did it take 5 hours? read more

The problem with this practice is the difficulty in scheduling. Last year scheduling an upper GI procedure took a month to get scheduled. No calls back after several varied attempts to reach them. This year I am trying to schedule a colonoscopy and so far no luck. The medical treatment itself seems fine but getting in to see them is near impossible. read more

One of the best doctors office experiences I've ever had! Requested an appointment as a new patient and was seen two days later. Upon arrival, reception staff was courteous and efficient, as were all of the nurses. I was seen by Dr. Choma right on time, with barely any wait. He was knowledgeable, caring, and had excellent bedside manner. Did a great job explaining and personally walked me to receptionist to make my follow-up appointments. Left the appointment feeling heard, comforted and knowing I was in good hands! *Note that this appointment was during COVID-19 outbreak - there was a quick screening procedure in the hall before being allowed into the office. In my opinion this practice has grown so big that they can no longer manage it properly. Two requests for an appointment made through their portal go unanswered. Try to call them forget it! My wife did have an appointment scheduled via the portal. With to interaction they picked the day/time which she cannot make. Trying to cancel and reschedule is extremely frustrating. I have trouble getting appointments. My initial appointment took 3 weeks to get, they want all patients including new ones to make their appointments through the web. I will not do that for a first visit, I want to speak with someone. I liked my doctor but when I tried a virtual appointment I was kept waiting for an hour. When I called to ask why I was on hold for so long I was off handily told he was with other patients. Then when I wanted my test results which I wanted for my peace of mind, I am in remission from cancer, no one bothered to answer my calls. read more

Had my first visit here a few weeks ago and was very pleased. The check in process via tablet was quick and painless, I was taken back to a room within 5 minutes of finishing the check in process. Front office staff was friendly and helpful. I saw a PA(Stephanie, I believe) who took ample time discussing my history and symptoms in detail with me. We made a plan for a procedure(3 weeks from then,) the scheduler was friendly, detailed and gave me detailed written instructions. Automatic sign up for the patient portal, reminders by text.
