I think I am going to say it…read more.. This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Birmingham City Centre! Manzil's is situated about a minutes walk from the Bull Ring and people in the know who know about curry know what I am talking about with this place. When you walk in, you are met with a homely and friendly atmosphere which makes it a delight to eat in. It's an old school curry house which I love. I really like the wallpaper! I have got to know the waiters as I have visited so many times, who are really chatty and are always happy to see you. If you see Hakeem, he loves his Football! The music they play is so random and unexpected. The last visit I made, they were playing Britpop hits of the 1990's haha On this visit, I was with 4 friends from down south who were visiting me for the day, who are tough critics I may add! I had the Chicken Pakora which was a great starter and just the right size to begin the meal. For the main course I had a lovely Dhansak which was really filling with Pilau rice. Manzil's speciality is their sizzling dishes which provides a good alternative if you are not in the mood for a hearty curry. The biggest surprise came when the bill arrived and we split it. One of my friends said "That price wouldn't even get you a starter which isn't half as good as that in London." Says it all really!

I'd put it down to them doing more sales via delivery. But judging by the reviews of this place it's not a well kept secret. I was brought her as a 'proper curry virgin' by experiences prior had been out of a jar and pub curries. According to a friend this was unacceptable, so off we went. I can't remember what I ordered. I know it was vegetarian and not spicy - I can't do spicy as much as I try. You get a lot for your money, going for an Indian can be an expensive affair but this was reasonable by the amount of food received. The service as well is excellent, always smiling and helpful. I really must go again, I whole heartedly suggest the rest of you do too.

We were greeted and…read moreseated quickly BUT were only given 3 menus for our group; then we had to request more menus. The order was taken by our waitress in a timely manner. We ordered naan, paratha, and a cheese/onion kulcha. As far as entrees we ordered: Shere Khan Special Combo, Saag Wala with Chicken, Chicken Karahi and Nihari. The special combo only came with one chutney that made no sense so we requested more and were pleased with the taste/consistency of the green chutney. The only items we had that were decent: afghani tikka and machi tikka; everything else was just HORRIBLE. After that dissatisfaction from the platter, we move into the other entrees to be further disappointed. The saag dish was over cooked and the karachi was absolutely the worst I have had. I almost forgot to mention, the fact we ordered the Nihari and it was given to us after a reminder to the wait staff, plus really late. The caveat to this review is... I do travel quite a bit, and for the price we paid for the meal, I am really disgusted! We did pit stop before leaving the restaurant to give them feedback. We learned that the head chef had changed about a year ago. But, despite complaining, we were not offered any compensation. Save your money and don't go!

Shere Khan in star city is the absolute best Indian food I have ever had. It was so good we went back 2 days later and was not disappointed. The food was not only delicious but the presentation was also excellent. Everything on the menu is a great pick. Some of my favorites are the lamb chops, lamb biryani, the grilled prawns, lamb korma and of course the naan. The mango lassi was delightful as well. We pretty much tried most of the things on the menu and everything was excellent both times we went I also want to brag about the customer service. The waiters were very polite and attentive and got our orders perfect. Arun I'm particular was excellent. Please request him should you go for dinner. He is wonderful and made our experience that much more exciting and enjoyable.

Generally, most of these restaurants have catered well for vegetarians so I've just opted for that. However, Lahore Karahi disappointed me. It's more of a fast-food diner than restaurant. And that isn't just a reflection of their tacky decor but also the greasy fast food that is ready in minutes. And their menu has little to offer vegetarians other than chips, which are actually thin, greasy fries. Don't expect comfortable seating. The chairs are plastic and tables have seen better days. Although the restaurant seems to be doing well considering its open all hours (or at least whenever I've passed!) and it's usually bustling with diners. However this could be because they're open till late and offer cheap, fast food. I went once but won't be going again.

The absolute best thing about Lahore is that it offers an 'all you can eat' deal for a little over £7 that incorporates all the main dishes plus sundries and naan bread. Drinks are extra, and I can personally recommend the mango lassi as a perfect palate-cooler after you've enjoyed some of the spicy treats on offer. Strongly recommended, it's definitely worth the trip. The only downside is that it can be a little tricky to find somewhere to park. If you can walk it, do so.

We walk by BBQ Village ALL THE TIME when exiting New Street toward South Side and finally made up our minds to give it a go. I'm so glad we did. The restaurant is decorated so nicely. The outside doesn't give a proper impression of just how pretty the restaurant is inside, with beautiful wallpaper, pottery koi, and beautiful paintings on the walls. We were seated at a hotpot table, which has a steam plate in the middle for sharing a big bowl of hotpot and heating pads at each seat for keeping your hotpot warm once served out. Next time, I am ordering hotpot because that seems to be the specialty of BBQ Village. I ordered Sichuan chicken and dim sum soup with chicken broth. The Sichuan sauce was properly spicy. SO good! It was practically swimming in chilis, but also balanced with vegetable oil and vinegar - just the way I like it. The soup was so flavorsome. I could swim in it. The seasoning was absolutely perfect. This will be a soup I crave and would imagine it would be the perfect remedy to a cold. I highly recommend the green tea, which is accented with the perfect floral notes. No sugar is needed for such a delicious tea. We shared a pot and it held plenty of tea to drink all throughout our meal. My goal for the next visit is to ask for the Mandarin menu, which in reading the Birmingham Mail, I understand has more menu items.

We were directed to Maharaja, even though they were closed between hours, so we waited until they opened again. Bearing all of our luggage before our train, when they opened, they gladly took our luggage for us and helped us settle in. The service here is what blew me away. They gave us our water while we waited, which we flew through. They also offered suggestions from the menu, which were spot on. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, and another curry dish I don't quite remember. The portions were smaller than what I'm used to, but they came with a selection of either rice or naan, and we chose one for each dish. There was also a creamy mint sauce and a mango chutney that went so well with our curry and naan! They were borderline spicy, but our sinuses were plugged and we requested it! It definitely cleared us out and was perfect! I loved cleaning up with the lemon-scented hot towels they bring, too! When we were about to leave, we poured the rest of the cucumber lime water into our water bottle, and the waiter spotted us and offered to fill our water bottles with fresh water! That was so nice of him. The prices are a little up there, especially when you practically double it for the USD conversion, but the service was so fantastic!

Lazzat is a buffet restaurant that serves Arabic, Kashmiri, Italian and Chinese cuisine, which is an odd combination that adds to its uniqueness. The buffet area is expansive with separate starters, dessert and salad counters. The main dishes surround the area with a stir fry stand at the end where a chef prepares your noodles freshly before your own eyes. Considering it's a halal restaurant, I was impressed by the range of vegetarian dishes provided. The food is a little bland for my taste buds, which means it would be universally appealing. The design has an Arabic feel to it with the emphasis on gold and grandeur. The staff are bubbly and helpful, which gives the restaurant a relaxed feel. Although the inside of the restaurant wasn't as glamorous as other venues I tend to go, the food I ordered was presented nice and I could taste a lot of additional flavourings such as basil. We ordered a few bottles of wine for the table and the waitress was always on hand to ensure our glasses were never empty and the table was always clear. All in all the service was excellent, venue OK and food tastier than expected.
