We were a multi-generational family of 7 people excited to have desi food. We were greeted and seated quickly BUT were only given 3 menus for our group; then we had to request more menus. The order was taken by our waitress in a timely manner. We ordered naan, paratha, and a cheese/onion kulcha. As far as entrees we ordered: Shere Khan Special Combo, Saag Wala with Chicken, Chicken Karahi and Nihari. The special combo only came with one chutney that made no sense so we requested more and were pleased with the taste/consistency of the green chutney. The only items we had that were decent: afghani tikka and machi tikka; everything else was just HORRIBLE. After that dissatisfaction from the platter, we move into the other entrees to be further disappointed. The saag dish was over cooked and the karachi was absolutely the worst I have had. I almost forgot to mention, the fact we ordered the Nihari and it was given to us after a reminder to the wait staff, plus really late. The caveat to this review is... I do travel quite a bit, and for the price we paid for the meal, I am really disgusted! We did pit stop before leaving the restaurant to give them feedback. We learned that the head chef had changed about a year ago. But, despite complaining, we were not offered any compensation. Save your money and don't go! read more

I came to Birmingham from the U.S. to visit family and wanted to dine in at an Indian restaurant since it is one of my favorite cuisines. Shere Khan in star city is the absolute best Indian food I have ever had. It was so good we went back 2 days later and was not disappointed. The food was not only delicious but the presentation was also excellent. Everything on the menu is a great pick. Some of my favorites are the lamb chops, lamb biryani, the grilled prawns, lamb korma and of course the naan. The mango lassi was delightful as well. We pretty much tried most of the things on the menu and everything was excellent both times we went I also want to brag about the customer service. The waiters were very polite and attentive and got our orders perfect. Arun I'm particular was excellent. Please request him should you go for dinner. He is wonderful and made our experience that much more exciting and enjoyable. read more
Star City has lots of restaurants, but this is one of the best you'll find. I love curries and other Indian food. Been going to Shere Khan for couple years. Whenever I go Star City for bowling, laser quest or mini golf, mostly end up in this restaurant Located ground level in Star City, they have a lovely waiting area and staff always have smile on them. As you walk in you can smell the spices, which gets you more hungry. Simple Interior, mainly black. Not too much designs and unnecessary decoration. Menu layout is simple to read and find what's in kitchen. I love their chicken tikka biryani, comes with some yoghurt sauce. I also tried butter chicken which is my favourite. Cheese naan with butter chicken its beautiful. My friend got me to try Mango Lassi and I'm a fan. It's a smoothie made from mango pulp and milk (I think) Goes well with the meal, cools down your mouth from the spices if you go for hot option. They also have range of deserts, any place that do chocolate fudge cake with ice cream (my kryptonite) gets a thumbs up. Prices are on par with other indian restaurants. Food tastes amazing and it's one of the best indian places. I haven't tried everything on menu, could be terrible. But from what I had, I cleaned the plate on main and desert. Highly recommend this place if you happen to be in Star City. read more
Shere Khan is a Indian/Pakistani restaurant located in star city. If you've not been to star city before it's a entertainment complex with cinema, bowling, restaurants and arcades. It's located on the ground floor. The restaurant is typically quite busy during the evenings and have no reservation system in place so waiting is required sometimes. Shere Khan serve indian food with some western flair. On this occasion I was visiting with the family so we ordered quite a few bits and pieces. Iv been visiting this restaurant regularly for years. Some of my recommendations include palak paneer, which is like a saag (spinach) dish mixed with paneer (Indian cheese). They have a great pashwari naan which goes well with any of the curries available. Iv not always been a vegetarian and I remember the chicken biryani was always a staple. Like a good biryani you can taste quality in the spices and textures indicating it has been properly slow cooked. They also have lassi available which is a traditional Punjabi yogurt based drink which is available in both sweet and salted varieties. They also sell a mango version which is great. The ice cream that they sell for dessert are also very good! I highly recommend the pana cotta! If your looking for a inexpensive Indian dining experience I would recommend it. Some of the appeal of this restaurant is what surrounds it! Make sure you to have a walk around if you have not visited star city before! read more

A great restaurant that couldn't possibly be any better. The prices are as lovely as the food here. Never have I seen a restaurant where all the staff are 100% commited to their jobs and always offer service with a smile. The menu is varied and the spice range of the food is made to order, so no need to worry about burning your tongues! There are a great range of both meat and vegetarian dishes on offer and all at great prices, with main courses starting from just a fiver. Plus they have a fresh juice and smoothie bar which provides customers with delicious fresh fruity beverages. Movenpick ice cream is also on the menu at very reasonable prices considering a small tub of this sells in supermarkets for no less than 4 pound. All in all, this is the best restaurant in Star City and one of the best in Birmingham, this is more than worth a visit. read more

Went here a couple of days ago for desserts. Im always quite sceptical about having ice cream for desserts as i think its a bit of wasted potential! But we went for a five scoop sundae, which was about 5.95 i think. We had lemon sorbet, mint, caramel, chocolate and hazelnut. All flavours were fab, especially the mint! They have recently decorated the place, although it looks much more glam, the excessive use of partitions can feel like youre in a maze! Service was poor though. As we just wanted desserts, they put us alone on the opposite side of the restaurant and seemed to have forgotten about us! We didnt get served till my friend had to physically get up and hunt a waiter down. We had to do the same to get our bill too. read more

Probably the simplest and easiest to understand menu I've ever seen in an Indian restaurant. Stylish surroundings, good service, impressive choice of non-alcoholic beverages (freshly made smoothies and juices etc) I do not believe they are licensed/serve alcohol but the choice of non-alcoholic beverages is so tempting, I'm sure you wont even miss it! (all drinks come in single or pitcher portions - ideal for families!) The food is of good quality and quite tasty. The portions seem to be on the small side, but I always feel stuffed by the end! The best thing of all is the price.very reasonable and excellent value for money. Recommended! 23.04.09 The last time I went here was at Christmas time. The menu has now been expanded and is now more reminicent of other indian restaurants.too much choice! lol. The menus were also very tatty (held together with cellotape!) - Sort it out, Shere Khan! Saying that, the food was still excellent and the place was very busy, despite it being a weeknight so they must be doing something right! read more

One of literally THOUSANDS of halal restaurants in Birmingham and several within the Star City complex, the Shere Khan management have their work cut out for them. Despite the competition, this place manages to hold its own against neighbouring establishments with a classy, if slightly noisy dining setting and delicious food to match. The prices are quite reasonable for a restaurant of this standard and the menu has quite a few dishes to choose from. You can't go wrong by choosing a platter of tandoori chicken, seekh kabobs, and karahi gosht. Overall, a very good dining experience! read more

The food here is wholesome, seriously dressed down and unashamedly unpretty. This is not a fine dining place but the food is cheap, unbelievable portions, so fantasticn value for money. If they tidied up the servicev the general clenliness of the place it could be a fantastic place. Can't beat the value for money though! Try if you dare the T bone steak, the Mixed Grill or a sharer The K.O Ship, these will blow your mind...... read more

This place is great. The food is definetly value for money, although it can be a little on the spicy side at times. The staff are always friendly and helpful, though at times it is hard to get their attention when it gets busy. They have a great lunch menu offer costing around only £6. The deserts are great to refresh your palate after! read more

Good food, nice atmosphere. I have been here many times and enjoyed it every time. It loses 1 star because they used to have a kids play area which they got rid off! read more

Never in my life have I seen such arrogant, offensive, unhelpful and rude staff. I have dined in many fine restaurants around the UK and tasted different types of cuisines and thought I'd give this a go. WHAT A MASSIVE MISTAKE, firstly it took forever to actually get a table despite being told that there was a 10-15 minute. What I didn't understand that there were people being given a table before me that had only been waiting 5 mins. What was going on, it appeared that the Manager that is if you can call him that was given priority to who he well pleased. When questioned the response was totally unacceptable. When the food finally arrived, after a very long wait. Well, I have never tasted such horrible food, it didn't even look fresh and was tastless. The portions were probably meant for a child. The staff had no enthusiasm or passion in what they were doing. With the current economic climate and recession we are having one would have assumed that they would look after their customers. It's service exactly like this that cause businesses to close down, continue like this and it will just be another statistic. All in all a shocking, unpleasant and totally poor experience, AVOID at all costs and a total waste of my money. Do the sensible thing and spend your hard earned cash elsewhere, don't make the same mistake I did. I would never dine there again. read more

Manager very rude, very small portions and poor tasting food. Can't believe they can charge these prices for curry which has large amounts of cream and tomato puree added to disgiuse the lack of cooking ability. read more
