As a medium sized landscape maintenance and snow removal contractor, keeping equipment running can be challenging sometimes. Extreme cold and snow cause the biggest issues because they are often unexpected. We needed to plan for that, and we decided to give Alberta Small Engine all our business a few years ago, and to build a long term relationship. We needed a new machine this winter, and they are in short supply from the manufacturer so we made the mistake of buying it from a different company that had it in stock. We found out after the fact because after sale service is non existent and we couldn't even get a returned phone call in literally over a month of trying. (That company will be getting an entirely different review lol) The machine went down this morning, and within an hour of talking to Mason, it was dropped off, taken apart, and is well on its way to being repaired, saving the day. They are even fixing some of the initial assembly errors made by the other company. I was really impressed with Tim at Alberta Small Engine and the service he gave me until I went to pick my blower up. I started it up in the store and was immediatly shut down. understandably I apolagized then ayoung man came out of the back and tied right into me, told me I should know betterand I apolagized again, this time he told me I could take my blower and F.... right off, we cursed back and forth and I left never to return. I went there feeling good about the place and I would deal there inthe future but they sure put an end to that. Not the way to treat a potential customer. read more

I took my Toro lawnmower to Alberta Small Engine for a much needed tune up and service. I am totally impressed with the whole experience. Dropping off and picking up my lawnmower was really easy. When it was time to pick up my lawnmower, the mechanic who worked on it, he fully explained the work he performed and gave me a few suggestions on operating/maintaining my lawnmower. I will not hesitate to recommend Alberta Small Engine to friends and family. read more

I took an ice auger in to have the spring rewound for my 70 year old uncle. The first time we tried to use it, it broke again. I took it back and the guy asked me what I did to break it accusingly. I told him nothing, my uncle had pulled a few times to try and start it and it broke. It obviously wasn't fixed properly. Instead of putting a rush on it as it was a warranty item it took a week or so to get it fixed. When I went to pick it up he said he put the old spring back in. I asked him for a refund on the new spring that I had already paid for as it was no good to me. He started swearing at me and said that I should have to pay for the time that he spent fixing it the second time. I will throw something away before I return to this place. ok...our lawnmower stopped working, not a good scenario for mid summer, right? So where do we go for parts? Aberta small engine services, of course..Friendly service, great prices (just under $12 here, $50 somewhere else b/c it wasn't in stock and would need a rush order...rush is right! You'd agree if you saw how long our grass was:) Really nothing bad to say. Promt, cheery, helpful. Will be back if need be, but old keep your fingers crossed for our lawnmower...it was my husbands first shot at taking apart and fixing an engine :) So far, so good. Oh, and our neighbors are probably sighing in relief that the neighborhood mosquito habitat has been cut down! read more

Took my lawnmower in to this place 3 times to get it repaired. On the last trip in, the person I presume to be the owner of this place immediately started berating me and my mother. He went off because we didn't have a work order with us. When I suggested he look it up on the computer he lost it and started dropping f-bombs at us both! After looking at the mower in his shop for 20 mins he came back out and said "there I fixed it for free even though you don't have a f'in work order!" I replied "you should be fixing it free, as we paid for it to be fixed 3 times this month alone". More f-bombs from the owner. I replied "It's amazing you have a business at all talking to customers like this!" He immediately snatched the lawnmower from my hands and started dragging it back into his shop in an attempt to steal it from me. I snatched it back from him and he went storming and stomping his way back into his shop. Never in my life have I ever encountered such unbelievably poor customer service. This place is run by a complete jerk that doesn't deserve to be in business. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place like the plague. read more

I felt like I was in an episode of Seinfeld except I was dealing with the Small Engine Nazi instead of the Soup Nazi. I was scolded by the guy who took in my lawn mower three times when I dropped it off then a fourth time when I called to inquire when it was going to be ready since my lawn was turning into a hay field. Very bizarre "customer" experience. Clearly this guy does not enjoy his job. The kid in back who actually does the work was nice enough. The cost in the end was the same as buying a new lawnmower. BUT, the lawnmower works great now and I'm hopeful it lasts me another 10 years. TIP: Use premium gas in your mower or you might get your hand slapped! read more

I am surprised that these guys are still in business, I bought a new mower there last week. Contacted them first through FB and got a reply that someone would call me. It never happened, made a call myself and was told that they could not get stock, kind of wondered what was going on as I was looking at a non-current model that their website said they had stock of. Emailed their contact info from their website telling them that their customer service was non-existent and got a call back, saying that they valued my business. Finally was able to purchase the non-current model that they had. Went into pick it up last Friday, sales person at the front was quite attentive, tried to get the guy I purchased from over the phone to help me, never did see him. (He was pretty happy to take my credit card info over the phone for the purchase.) Went around back young fellow showed me how to run the mower and gave me a couple of tips for maintenance. I asked if there was a manual with the machine he said he would check and never came back. Ended up loading it on my truck by myself, drove by the open door when the young fellow was working, he saw me but never bothered to come to tell me the status of the manual. Got home was able to download manuals from the Snapper Website, registered the mower for warranty purposes. If this is the service you get when you purchase a new mower for what I think is pretty good cash, I am not hopeful if I ever need service. Let's just hope this mower is a good as the last snapper I purchased, it never required anything more than normal service. read more
