We love this place. We have been tent camped during the summer and we always have a blast. The bathrooms are clean and the shower is free with hot water. The sites have hookups for water and electricity. It's so convenient. The workers are nice and friendly. During our recent trip, we rented A2 with their trailer. The trailer has everything that you need. You just need to bring food and camping chairs and you're set. If you like to fish, bring you fishing poles. This place is awesome during crabbing season. They have so much crabs. Just make sure you have a fishing license and no one bothers you. Most people bring their boats to fish but we were just fishing/crabbing on the pier and we got a lot of crabs. We only got 2 small fish but it's ok. We had so much fun. read more

This RV park, is absolutely fantastic. My husband and I took the coastal drive a few years ago and came upon this place and stayed across from where we are now, and I wanted a trip in my little RV that I bought so I can go by myself, and my husband flew in to see me for a few days, but I get to enjoy some freedom. I don't know who owned it a few years ago, I did not go in the office and interact with anybody, but whoever owns it now is doing an amazing job, these young guys drive around in these golf carts and make sure everything's clean. They pick up trash and pick up stupid people's dog poops, And they put the picnic tables back where they are. It's pretty cool that they enjoy where they live, I would so recommend anyone to come and enjoy this place. I just left there this morning, I can tell you it's June 26 or whatever, and it was colder than heck there like 50 to 60°. I barely went outside, and so next year I think I will go in September October when it's a little warmer I love the staff whoever they are owners or whatever or staff, they extended my stay before I got there a few days extra and they were so nice and accommodating and texted me message me, this is a really great family owned RV park, there's ocean to the right river to the left and you can fish to your heart content thanks for a great day. I have been coming to Albion for 40 years or more camping and fishing for Albalone Rockfish and crab, it's a wonderful place for adults as well as kids. The only issue nowadays is the new camp host/manager; Dennis, he can come across as a great guy, he sure fooled me! Dennis is a SoCal/midwest guy who is a professional scammer, he is for himself period... from what I've found on the internet he has angered many people who visit the campground so much that they wrote Dennis is a &@$" with paint on the bridge, trees and even the launch ramp. I do not agree with graffiti on anything as this destroys the natural beauty of the area; however this man really is the word used. The rest of the employees are great? They keep the place clean, interact with campers to assure everyone is having a great experience. read more

I stayed at the Campground the beginning of May with friends for a wonderful event on the upper river side of the campground. The event was fantastic although a little windy and some blowing sand and dirt, but understandable. My concern peeked the next day when having breakfast at a nearby hotel and meeting a professional gentleman who lived in Albion for over 30 years. He said that the beach and the entire area under the bridge had toxins from the preservation of the historic wood trestle bridge. Normally, I might not give this kind of information too much credit, but knowing that this bridge is very old, it made sense that something had to be preserving the wood. As much as I loved the Campground, the thought that my dog was running and digging and playing under the bridge and on the beach was disturbing........very. Fortunately, due to our schedule, this was just for a limited time. I would recommend this campground, but only if one did not desire to use the beach and I would choose a campsite far from the bridge and just enjoy the view of this historic monument. read more

So me and if took the trailer out before Labor Day. Stayed 2 nights at the campground the site they gave was awesome. The people we had next to us were so nice and friendly. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The views are awesome we are beach people it was just over the hill you could here the waves. We took the dogs had my sons dog we were watching. It was so nice and relaxing and a good break from the heat! We had full hook ups and used them for the first time. We would definitely go back. Not far from Fort Bragg we went in and had lunch there. This place is an absolute hidden gem. We visited this past weekend to escape from the 100 degree heat where we live. We were able to have a campfire all day long, throw crab pots in the river, fish in the river and cove and search for treasures on the beach. Everyone (visitors and staff) were so nice here! We didn't realize it was a location for people who had boats but we had so much fun not having a boat. The local market is great and has so much variety and there is also more mainstream grocery stores close by in fort Bragg. We already have our next trip scheduled ! A hidden gem - and you can't beat this cool little place for the price. Located where the Albion River meets the ocean, there are sights for both RVs and tents. There are limited full hookup sites, but plenty more electric & Water only hookup sites. If you chose to use the latter, you can dump holding tank waste at the dump site on your way out. There's a small general store (not very well stocked) with a small cafe. There is also a large, clean shower and toilet facility on site. Staff is friendly and helpful. But the best thing is it's proximity to the little bay. Super cool place to sit on the beach and watch the sunset. read more

I recently went to the Albion River Campground the weekend of July 21st and 22nd, and man let me tell you that campground is great! I was there filming a Purple Sea Urchin Removal Event put on by KELPRR, and The Watermen's Alliance. Darryl and his staff we're the best! The location is dreamy, my crew and I had to drive through the Redwoods which reminded me of movies like "Avatar & Fern Gully"! As we drove through the forest we finally arrived at, a picturesque bridge suspended over the ocean one would expect to find on a post card. The River is loaded with Dungeness crab, the water is so tranquil and clear you literally can see them walking around the dock and pier areas. You can drop a trap, but we just baited our poles with sliding rigs, and used squid and we caught crab all night! Though I was there to film, other campers who where on kayaks limited out on Lingcod, various species of Rockfish, and Salmon where being brought in. People where catching so much fish they where giving some away! Definitely worth the drive! The black sand beach is spectacular. read more

My husband says he loved it!! It wasn't too busy so we had a little more elbow room! Our stay was short and sweet!! We actually passed over this campground earlier this year while going to another campground in Fort Bragg about 20 minutes or so out and when we saw it we both looked at it and was like....we have to bring the kid here!! So hubby asked that I text him the info so we don't forget about it!! The only thing I would highly...I mean highly recommend is some type of red light green light system when you are entering and exiting the campground! The campground is closed due to the Mendocino County quarantines for the Covid virus, but the boat ramp is now reopened! Had a wonderful day kayaking the river... clear skies, perfect temperature and nice incoming tidal flow to allow drifting up the river. Only 6 other kayakers seen today and all were pretty far distant, allowing a peaceful day of bird and critter watching. No Sasquatches today, but saw a few crabs in the water plus the usual osprey and cormorants. read more

This place is beautiful. It is absolutely one of my favorite places to camp. It's in a beautiful setting and its a quick drive into Mendo and Fort Bragg if you want to just have this as your home base and go site seeing. There is boat ramp, kayaks, a local seal that comes looking for fish and the bathrooms are clean! There is a beach that is peaceful and serene. The only thing that I didn't care for is the road down. Its only one road to go down to campsite and back out so if someone is coming out and you're going down, someone will have to wait, but other than that this place is ideal. We went the last weekend of July and it's not hot. The weather is cool so bring warm clothing and dress in layers. It can get cold at night but that's the perfect time for a camp fire and s'mores. There's a small playground for kids, an area for RV's and an area for tent camping. This is the perfect spot for camping. Did I mention the bathroom and showers are clean? :) read more

We went not knowing anything about the campground or hosts, it was xmas weekend so the campground wasn't busy. This campground is in an amazing location, it's a 3 minute walk to the beach, it's a 10 minute drive to Mendocino, it's 6 minutes to Van Dam St park & close to the Navarro River & Redwood state park. The campground has fire pits, showers, a store with anything you may have forgotten, hookups, a boat ramp & kayaks for the river which is another 4 minute walk. But the best part of our trip were Richard, Cara & their support team in Raphael, they were so incredibly hospitable, nicest hosts we've ever encountered & we camp all the time. I highly recommend this campground, we'll definitely be going back!! We arrived late on a Sunday, and stayed an additional night. The campground was very clean, as we're the bathrooms and showers. RACIST !! AVOID THIS CAMPGROUND IF YOU ARE NOT WHITE!! We (Asian American) planned an annual family camping abalone dive trip here one year. My brother and two cousins were licensed abalone free divers. I know there are some abalone poachers common in this area, but they automatically assumed we were poachers. Campers complained without verifying and someone who claimed to be the office asked to see our license, NOT the Fishing game & boarding regulators. The entire time we were there not only did the other campers constantly stare and watch our every move (even walking to the bathrooms with my little 5 and 7 year old niece and nephews). It was uncomfortable the entire 3 days we were there. The end of that trip couldn't come soon enough. NEVER AGAIN will we stay there... AVOID AVOID AVOID! read more

This place is really beautiful, and the campground is pretty much right on the beach. Quiet, secluded, never seems to be very crowded, and the grounds are very well maintained. One of my favorite campgrounds ever. Cons: The management is definitely less than friendly. These folks are ALL business. Not much on the customer service here. Small bundles of firewood are $9, and the showers are not included in the $50 a night campsites. I get it...this place is isolated and there are really no other stores or services around, but just because you can gouge people doesn't mean you should... Bring everything you need with you if you decide to stay here, 'cause it'll cost a small fortune if you forget something. read more

We are a fishing family that lives the beach and everything a crowd trip close to home, but feels far away has to offer. 2/19/13 - I UNDERSTAND IMPROVEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE SINCE MY ORIGINAL 2010 REVIEW. AM LOOKING FORWARD TO RETURNING. NOTE CHANGES IN ALL CAPS I am not keen on private, developed campgrounds. I find them crowded as sardine cans and noisy. I typically stay at state parks with no hook-ups. My wife and I traveled to the coast mid-week in late April and alas, it was rainy and cold and the state parks were mud holes. We came across the Albion River Campground with is situated in a large grassy (non-muddy) field with the river at one side and the ocean on another. We took a spot near the bridge and the beach and hooked-up to the included water and electrical. Our dogs loved the beach just 100 yards away and we enjoyed listening to the crashing surf at night. The grounds stayed reasonably dry after the heavy rains over two days. I UNDERSTAND THE BATHROOM HAS BEEN REMODELED TO ADD DOORS, HEATERS AND EQUALIZED WATER PRESSURE and DUMP STATION HAS BEEN IMPROVED. I HAVE ADDED ONE STAR TO REVIEW. I did not appreciate the crude bathroom/showers. There are no doors at the entrance so cold drafts can blow in while showering. There is very little water pressure and no way to adjust the temperature to anything but scalding. You are expected to hang your clothes onto 16d nails pounded into a 2x4 ram-set into the cinder block wall. It was clean, but surely they could put a little more into this? Then there is the dump station. It is free and convenient, but is poorly designed. Every dump-station I have ever seen has the drain recessed lower that the surrounding concrete. This one is elevated 6" with some crude 3/8" holes drilled around the base. How are you supposed to hose down a spill? Why not just do it right and bust out the 5 sq. ft. of concrete, cut off the drain pipe and pour it again? Pros- -Great location on the river and beach and close to Medocino, etc. -Grassy parking area -Full hook-ups available -Boat launch and dock for fishing boats, canoes and kayaks -Fish clean-up sinks -On site restaurant -Relatively cheap showers -Great spot for dogs! Cons- -Tight campsites and no shade at all on hot summer days (Plant some friggen trees!) -Only one bathroom/bath house that is a long walk from the far side of the park. -Dump station needs to be redone Overall- This place is in great location but it needs some thoughtful improvements. read more

I am a fan of Albion River Campground because of it's great location (Albion River flats under large trellis bridge), proximity to Mendocino, beach accessibility, river accessibility, small store cafe, river/fishing activities, etc. They provide full, partial and no hookup camping sites which are decent but could be improved with a little gravel and/or concrete. The staff are super friendly. Given that I have enjoyed the three times I have camped here I will be back. read more

I got spots C23, 24 & 25 right next to the trail to the beach and the river. The winds tend to rip thru the canyon at the mouth of the river and really hit these spots we noticed the spots against the mountain were more protected. Winds died down in the evenings a little bit, but then the moisture in the air got worse one of the nights, but the mornings were barely foggy before the sun burnt it off. The store at the top of the hill had everything you could possibly need...we were dying Easter eggs and forgot the vinegar, but they saved the day! We were only about 25 minutes or so from Glass Beach and Fort Bragg (nice drive). We had a base jumper parachute off the bridge too which was a pretty cool highlight to the trip. Flats Café's troll burger was awesome, so large I couldn't even close the container!!...I was ok with that because I was walking back to camp snacking on their amazing onion rings just dying to dive into the burger which is big enough for 2. The main complaints from my camp was the bathrooms and trash were a bit of a walk from these sites, animals WILL get into your trash do not leave it out, winds are pretty fierce at those sites if you have a tent pick a more inland site, the river current was pretty strong keep a close eye on your kids! read more

Campground? There is a campground here? All I know is that the food at this cafe is fabulous. We were staying at a b&b that recommended it for a cheap dinner, something about the chef running a fancy-pants restaurant in the area and this is a side gig... I don't know the specifics, but I do know it was the best fish and chips I have ever had. Ever. There are apparently some amazing salads and a chowder not listed on the menu (I accosted a local eating in a corner to find out what he was having) - it looked awesome and he looked pretty happy eating it. There also appear to be great pizzas. And the cook on site that day was the nicest man ever. Go there. Ignore the trailers you see out the window or from the lovely outdoor eating space. Eat the food. read more
