Albion Cove was a lovely find close to our rental. We walked down the steep road to the camp area and under the bridge supports to get to the little patch of beach where the driver lets out. The ocean is less intense in the cove and you can even move toward the mouth of the river where it is even calmer. If it weren't in walking distance I'm not sure how to access without an RV reservation. There is no discernible public parking outside of 3-4 one hour spaces next to the check in building. read more

What an awesome trip we had here over Fathers day. The spots arent huge but each one faces the water. The scenic view in the morning was my favorite part as I drank my coffee and listened to the birds feeding there babies. SOOO many birds. The river is only a 5 minute boat ride to the foggy awesome that is the Pacific Ocean. My son recently purchased his first boat and he, his Dad and his Grandpa took off for just 2 hours bringin home a boat load of fish. No joke. Abalone seems to be the big thing here. Guys in wet suits everywhere. Besides RVs there were tents and some just divers in trucks with BBQs on the tailgate. Seals swam into the marina. And again too many birds to count flew overhead. Chris is the manager and he is super accomodating. There are bathrooms and a shower too. As far as "glamping" goes, this was fantastic. There was one douchy guy that lived there in a trailer that didnt like my dog but his loss cuz my dog is awesome and just wanted to say hi. Oh and almost forgot, the fish cleaning stations helped so much! (the birds like them too) read more

We feel very fortunate to post a "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" for Schooner's Landing. My wife and I along with our dog Maggy May just spent 5 peaceful nights here. We arrived on Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) and then rolled out on Wednesday. This campground is fairly rustic but offers so much. Our site had full hook-ups, which I think most, if not all do. Our RV was just a few feet from the Albion River. We kayaked up the river a couple times, and dove out of the cove a few times as well. Spectacular. Deer, seals, otters, herrons, geese, ducks, hawks and birds of every kind. The road down into the river from Hwy 1 can be a little sketchy. (steep and tight turns). It's not too long though. We have a 30' class A towing a Jeep, and we pulled in and out no problem. Just take it slow. The manangers, Chuck and Denice are wonderful people. Very friendly, caring and run the place very well. The campground was clean and well maintained, the bathrooms were always clean and the trash was picked up daily (needed or not). Insider tip: The little Albion Market up on the hill just south of the river bridge is a real gem. They have everything you could imagine. Groceries, meats. camping, fishing, dive gear. Even a fresh bakery and coffee shop. If you forgot something or need anything, (or just want a treat) they probably have it. read more

Picturesque campground on the river. The groundskeeper, Chris, was very nice and accommodating. There are a couple of permanent campers as well as some RV's that appear to be stored there but it really does not affect the beautiful setting in my opinion. The sites are not too close together but I can see how some would think it was a snug site. If you bring your pets be aware we had some tick issues, two on the dogs and one on the hubby. They keep the groups quite trim but the little bugs still manage to take hold. All in all this is a great place to stay! Very close to Mendocino and Fort Bragg! read more

We stumbled upon Schooners Landing while traveling the California coast....what a gem in the woods..! Off the highway and upstream, we were pleasantly surprised how the weather improves in such a short distance. No wind, sunshine and the friendliest campers we met in over 3 weeks of camping. This is a big fishing/diving camp.and a bird watchers paradise...we saw Great Blue Heron, many other shore birds and the local resident seal came by on his morning swim. We were lucky enough to have been given a whole bag of fresh caught Rock Cod from one of the campers there...it made the best fish tacos EVER.. This is an older campground but clean and quiet. We will definitely be back to Schooners Landing. read more

Killer grounds and great boat launch. The management is so hap-hazard and deceitful that you cant help but feel ripped off. The owner told us they were going to charge us one price that we had agreed on and then practically doubled it during check out. She is dishonest, deceptive and quite possibly suffering from an undiagnosed mental health issue. Wonderful grounds but camp at your own risk. read more

I've been staying here every year for over 20 years. The new owner is the definition of idiot. She doesn't care about customers and doesn't care about business. Very sad because this is a great place. Sad because she doesn't let anyone enjoy it. Stay away until she sells. Albion flats is just as good for the same price (and nobody walking into your camp every day giving you a hard time). Now she has raised the prices for everything. You will have to pay a ridiculous fee for every person and pet (she admits to not liking kids or pets). What is camping without kids and pets? Obviously she has ruined for others and has lost a lot of business and is raising prices to offset the lost business. Can't wait until she has to sell. read more

The owner is a absolute nut case. I've been staying here for 20 years and unfortunately we cannot longer stay here anymore. The campground has deteriorated to nothing that you would want to stay in compounded that the bathrooms are disgusting. The owner reminds me of some kid that inherited their money and has no wisdom to manage it. She ( the owner) wants you take out the trash and help clean up the grounds while you stay there after paying premium money for a campground site. read more

What a beautiful place to camp in Mendocino. Nestled in the woods and the campsites are bumped up against the forest. The campsites are tucked away in the mountain and still signs of the logging industry that was huge in this area. The river runs right in front of the campsites. Great for kayaking. Up river is a small house built right in the middle of the river. Lots of other fun stuff dotting the river sides. You can paddle up to banks of the river and have a picnic or explore. Beautiful scenery. Nice friendly vibe and easy to meet people from all around. read more

We have stayed at Schooner's many times over the past few years and just love it. The sites are for the most part, medium in size, most have full hook ups. We love the quiet, the river view and that it is just a short walk around the corner to the beach; also convenient to Mendocino Village and Big River Beach (our fave)! It is rustic and there's lots of interesting wildlife on the river to observe from your campsite. Managers Chuck and Denise are great and do a fine job keeping up the campground! My stay was pleasurable with our neighbors, good thing as they are right outside our door ! The camping spaces are small, they squeeze you in like sardines! As for the new owner she is quite a different story, she over charged me for 3 days I did not ask for, then when I told her I only asked for 4 days and she charged me for 7 . I told her the minute I walked in but she said she' just let it stand for now, two days later I told her I was leaving at the end of my 4 days she started in! She said "I can not afford to keep the park empty for your family. Our refund policy does not cover 'leaving early'. It will be years before i break even. I am personally funding your camping trip...Gabriella L So I was charged $350 for 4 days! And yes I left at the end of four days, I will never return, there are too many awesome places to stay than in that hole! Gabriella if that is the way you make your money I say it's very dishonest! You took my call at the post office, you wrote down the wrong information! And as for keeping the park empty because of my family??? The place is a dump, it is already empty! $150 I was over charged, you madam are very dishonest! If there was a 0 star I would give it to you on your personality alone! Have a nice day! read more

Stayed here 3 of the last 5 years.. The other two were at the next door Albion Campground. People often overlook this place seeing only the other campground. They shouldn't. We really like it here. All campsites are right on the river in a line. You may have side neighbors but not on all side like at the other place. You're more up river and therefore more out of the wind and the worst of the fog. The hosts Chuck and Denice are great! Just four stars because some of the campsites are a bit small, some of the picnic tables have gotten rather gross (bring a heavy table cloth) and sometimes on full-up weekends they briefly run out of well water. read more

After tent camping for over 20 years, we finally rented a travel trailer and spent four days at Schooner's Landing. This place is awesome! There are two fish cleaning stations and a friendly, well-fed seal who travels between both of them. The inlet is GORGEOUS and protected so you are sheltered from the wind and the fog takes longer to come back there than it does many other places. As a bird sanctuary, there are herons, hawks, ravens, seagulls, chimpmunks (thieves LOL) and evening visits from raccoons (trouble makers who ate all our potato chips, but passed on the s'mores). The kids slept in tents next to the trailers: it's safe and there is plenty of space. The firepits are metal and a little wobbly, but there were no 'incidents'. The picnic tables are well maintained. If you have children, bring their bikes so they can ride around. It's dog friendly, but on-leash only. Kids can also throw little crab nets off the doc and fish (small, inedible, but entertaining). The docs need work, but they are structurally sound. The bathrooms are typical camp bathrooms and NO wetsuits are allowed in the showers or you will get the boot! If you dive out of a small boat (inflatable, kayak, Whaler, etc) this place is perfect. The channel going in and out is narrow and you have to pay careful attention to the tides. We will definitely be back. We've camped all over the Mendocino coast and this is our new favorite place! read more
