I got to the store the owner was ready to close up. The owner quickly checked my camera and she knew what she doing as she did diagnostic of my battery, to SD card to the end she said my camera lenses is damage. She informed me that she has a refurbish lenses for $175 or replace a brand new lens. I didn't get a chance to browse the store but it sure has its frame it's unique character of many variety of cameras to the pictures on the wall. I will definitely return and take my time. read more

This place has always been over-the-top excellent for me and was exactly that again an hour ago when I stopped in with some questions and a small need for some hardware. Contrary to what some other reviewer wrote, they have NOT shortened their hours from what is on the website. They were dismayed to hear that such a mistaken review was posted. I would recommend that people consider this place to be the first stop for everything photographic. The proprietor, Vicki, is even generous with her advice about finding some things on-line instead of suggesting we have her order things she doesn't carry but could get. When you don't buy at a place like this, you run the risk of suffering the false economy of buying at the wrong thing. I popped in only to see what camera stores are available in Albuquerque. Met the owner Vicki. Even though she was very busy getting ready for a class she was about to teach, she was kind and patient even though I obviously didn't come in to buy anything. BTW, she has a studio available for rental that is very fair in price. Good to remember next time I need one. She has an amazing array of used cameras and lenses. I found a classic Nikon lens from the 1970s that I've always wanted, in the best condition that I have ever seen. Her price was incredibly fair, and I walked out very happy. read more

I have yet to be able to shop at this location. I stopped by yesterday, which was a legal holiday, and they were closed. I stopped by again today at 4 pm and they were closed. I went to the door, and they have minimized their hours. They are only open M-T-W from 10 to 3. This is not what is listed on their website or on yelp. I will try again tomorrow during these hours because there are only 2 local camera shops in town, and they are within a mile of each other. Mom and Pop shops are dying in Albuquerque. I didn't realize I'd been using them for so long, but when I look back at receipts...it has been over 5 years. So...that's where my review begins. Service: I'd taken my camera into Kurts...which was near my house at the time and immediately I could tell by the way the girl handled my camera and touched places she should not.. that there was NO WAY I could trust them to even ship my camera out. She couldn't even put the lens back on. I found APT when I was looking for a local Nikon "authorized" repair place. I went in and Vikki, the co-owner lectured me on how dirty my camera was, and why there was one piece of dog hair in my camera bag, and how I really should have an eye piece on my camera..and how the bag needed to be vaccumed out before I came back to pick my camera up. None of that I went in for... But she was right on all of it. As scared as I was of her, I really appreciated that she knew of all that. And I felt super comfortable in her handling of my camera. She is tough, but she knows her stuff. It may seem as though she is rattling prices off in her head.. but in my experience, she's consistent and fair. Repairs: I've had my cameras repaired and cleaned here on a few occasions... All jobs done well. I will continue to take my cameras here. Digital Camera Class: The digital class Ms. Vikki offers is done very efficiently. If you feel like you don't understand your camera or you can't make it do certain things, this class will definitely help. You can arrange a private class, using your own equipment. I recommend taking this class after you've had your camera a while and have had the opportunity to get frustrated with it. She will show you how to make it do all of the things you've been trying to figure out on your own. She will make sure you understand before she moves on, she will write everything down for you so you don't have to (and so the class moves along efficiently). She teaches you all of the functions of your camera. She teaches you from personal experience which is huge. She tells you how to do things and why you do them. It's a Great class, very helpful very efficient. Bottom line: APT knows cameras and they do a great job with repairs. The customer service is a bit Frank...but worth it. The Digital Camera Class is a must for anyone with questions. read more

Walked in the other day with a friend that's been here before. They have quite the selection to really nerd out on. I could probably stay there for hours. I really just went in to see what they had in stock. I ended up looking through their camera casings and straps. I figured why not & see if I could get a strap for my Nikon One Touch. Literally dug through their strap pile, searching for a strap that was similar to the original. Before I gave up, we asked Vicki if they had a strap like the original one & she said she seen that exact one. We ended up finding the exact strap for my Nikon. It was exciting to be able to look through their gear & accessories. Shop owner was very helpful & nice. They have this teaching quality about them which was quite comforting. 10/10 experience. Great first experience. I had dropped my lense and was completely distraught about it not working!! :( called this place and they told me to bring it in to be inspected. All in all, it turned out to be a quick fix and and they repaired it on the spot! I was in and out in less than 30min and for only 20$. Bringing my bother damaged lens in as soon as I can. A local, independent business who are doing their best to compete with "The Man." And I think they're doing a bang-up job of it! They repaired a lens of mine that I jacked up at a fair price. For all I know, all the staff want at APT Camera is your money & they don't care how they get it. 1. Brought my Yashica Mat-124 twin reflex to them because the shutter stopped working. 2. They "fixed" it. 3. A week later, it stopped working again all of a sudden for no reason. Just pushed the button and it stopped. 4. I brought it back hoping it could be a quick fix. NO! 5. Woman/owner said "OK, we'll see if we can fix it here. If we can't, we might have to send it to our guy. If we do, you have to pay for shipping." THAT IS THE ONLY THING SHE SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR. So I asked her to CALL ME if that was the case because then I would NOT get it fixed at that time and take it to someone else. 6. Finally got a call back, after a looong time letting me know I can pick up my camera. 7. When I go to pick up the camera, she has apparently shipped the camera and obviously DIDN'T CALL ME!!!! They also "cleaned" it and charged me for that, too. Not only did they not really fix my camera the first time, but I had to pay them to fix their mistake the second time. The woman even threatened me with "I cannot let this camera leave the store with it being paid for." And she also said "according to this paper, you gave us full authorization to ship the camera." Whatever... The total cost for them to fix my camera this second time & including the first time COST OVER $200. FUCK. THIS. PLACE. read more

The woman who runs this place was very, I'll be very generous here and say, "abrupt", when I met her, but I didn't know of anyplace else to get my camera fixed, so I ignored my instincts and kept dealing with them. Big mistake. First they said $50 for the repair (LCD disconnect, hair on sensor) on my digital camera, and three or four days. That seemed right, since the camera can't be worth much more than a hundred bucks. Two weeks later, they call me and say they've fixed the LCD display, but it will be another $75 to clean the sensor. I wasn't thrilled with what felt a like a bait and switch, but I didn't see a lot of options at this point. I get the camera back home, and immediately send it off to Amazon for a trade-in. Amazon rejects the camera, based on, and I quote, "dust on the sensor". Odd. I've had it in its freshly washed case since the moment I picked it up from AP-T, and I mailed it off in a fresh, sealed zip-loc bag. Literally the only place it could have gotten dust on the sensor is when the "experts" at AP-T were "cleaning" it. As far as I can tell, these people are just a pair of con artists who will do or say anything to get your money and keep their little camera grift in business another week. If you're thinking of trusting AP-T with a repair, my advice is that you save time, money, and headache by simply throwing a hundred dollars into a toilet and then buying a new camera. read more

I took a photography class with Vicki yesterday and I was very impressed. She taught me everything I needed to know about my camera, it's capabilities, and how to properly utilize them. I love photography but was very frustrated with the quality of my photos. Vicki was such a fantastic teacher that I walked out of there with the knowledge and confidence that I had been lacking. She provides very simple and specific notes to reference back to...because it is a great amount of information that she fits into the session. Vicki is all business and cares very much for what she does. I also noticed that no matter what a person walked in to enquire about, even if it had nothing to do with cameras/photography...she was willing to help and point you in the right direction. APT camera... Is Beautiful! Everyone i talked to knew what they were talking about. NOT one rude look or comment came from their mouths as i talked on. They made sure i recived the info i was after. Only place that i will return to for any of my camera needs. I felt very comfortable in the store. Lots of vintage cameras to look at also what a sight! Her collection of vintage cameras is mesmerizing. They went tooth and nail to help me with a lens that i really wanted but couldnt afford. So anyone that says APT is just after money is full of it because i left with the lens i couldnt afford. They seem like they really are out to help everyone. They are a business so they have to make a few bucks to stay open just like any business. But prices compared to KURTS witch are extremely high, APT are very affordable. Needed to get my camera cleaned because of a water spot that showed up on all my shots and didn't want to try and attempt it myself for fear of messing up the internals. Met Vicki right before the shop closed and she diagnosed right away what was wrong. We had a good, friendly conversation on some hikes that were available in the area and gave me some good recommendations. She was very accommodating to try and get my camera finished by the next day and even offered to stay a little after closing so I could pick it up after work! I took my bottom-end DSLR camera body in for a diagnostic to figure out if it was cheaper to fix it or replace it. I paid the $75 diagnostic fee for disassembly, which I thought was fair. I was told 5-7 days and I should have an answer on how much to repair it and then make the decision. A week goes by and I called to check in. I was told it should be done next week. Okay, no worries, stuff happens, people get busy. Another week goes by and I get a phone call saying my camera is going to need $250 worth of repair and they've already fixed it and it's ready to be picked up. I was somewhat upset that they'd already repaired it without my consent, but they said they had to fix it to figure out what was wrong. I get that, but it was the way it was presented that made me frustrated. It felt like they were holding my camera hostage for repairs that I did not consent to. I can find the same camera body (good used) for around $175-$200. The camera is repaired and it works the way it is supposed to. It was the communication and the experience I didn't care for. I'll go somewhere else next time. read more

Great service but expensive. Took my camera in after my dog knocked my tripod over and dinged my filter to the point where I couldn't get it off. I dropped it off at the shop. Then on the phone I was offered to have the filter taken off. I was offered one price to take it off. I said OK but then that price was to take it off provided I buy a filter from them, otherwise it was $10 more. I don't hear very well and she gave me a price to put another filter on and I agreed expecting it to be a superior filter. When I got the camera it was just a $15 Tiffen. The markup was 4X. I repair computers for a living and would never charge this kind of markup for memory or a hard drive. I will use them again but will be more careful about what I am paying for. She should drop her computer off at my shop and I'll charge her $160 to snap in some $40 memory. read more

I don't know what you people have up your butts. VickI and the rest at AP-T are the best any where ( NOT JUST IN ABQ.) They are very knowledgeable about cameras, lens & photography. I have been going to AP-T for at least 10 years. If I have any issues with my equipment I go to them with out hesitation (From dust in cameras or lenses droped cameras almost any issue I have). FUNNY STORY I went to Vicky to trade in some lenses to get a larger lens for shooting sports photography. Vicky informed me that the lens that I was trying to trade in would work on my camera. Thank God I was using it at a baseball game. I got hit with a foul ball line drive if I would've had my shorter lens the ball would have hit me in the four head.
