the packaged oysters had no flavor at all. tiny flat oysters, tasted like Rockport tap water. We bought lbs of large shrimp cuz the medium and smalls shrimps were not looking so fresh. Alby's Seafood is right off Hwy 35 and has good parking. It's a small store with fresh seafood and some items in refrigerators. They had 16/20 shrimp for under $10 a pound. And fresh fish filets on ice. The rock crab claws, oysters, scallops and chowder were in the refrigerators. This is a very reliable business for your seafood needs. The lady at the counter was very patient as I asked the prices on everything I saw. I ended up with red snapper filets and jumbo shrimp. I drove by this place the first day I was in Rockport. I saw the take out window on the side, and thought it might be more than just a seafood market. I looked at it here on Yelp and saw that, at one time, the oyster po boys were considred really good. I also saw that there was a possibility that they no longer had them. I decided it was worth a chance, since I had a serious fried oyster craving happening the entire time I was in Rockport. I went on the second day of my visit. Unfortunately, they do not po boys any longer. Also, when you are close up to the take out window, you can read the sign that says they no longer use the window. Undaunted, I went inside to see what they did have. I saw some of the biggest shrimp I have ever seen. They were the size of prawns! I went ahead and bought a pound of them. They lady working the counter was really friendly and helpful. She asked if I wanted them on ice. I hadn't even considered the fact that I was not going to get back to my camper at Goose Island State Park for at least an hour. I told her ice would be good, and she really did a great job of packing it all up for me. I set it on the floor under the back seat of my truck and went to lunch. Surprisingly, when I got back to my camper, very little of the ice had melted, even though it was a scorcher of a day in Rockport. I realized I didn't have a pot to cook them in. Yep, I hadn't thought that through either. I went on the internet and found a recipe for steaming them in the microwave. Thinking I was wasting some really great shrimp, I followed the instructions. Let me tell you... Those shrimp were cooked to perfection. They were quite possibly the best steamed shrimp I have ever eaten. I iced them back down and put them in the fridge, but kept going back and eating a few more until they were all gone. Next time I am in town, I am going to bring an ice chest and fill it up with all kinds of fresh sea food at Alby's to take back to San Antonio with me. read more

I bought an $85 gal of oysters in this place yesterday because it was the only place in Rockport I could find any. They were selling a "light" Fallon for $85 not a 7lb gallon. I decided to open the container before I left and the whole top was full of ice, not oysters. The two people start pacing around and the guy says these are fresh , I just shucked today . Ok so here's the deal , you throw a bunch of fresh oysters in tap water and they will puff up and suck up water to increase their volume, which theses were. Total BS , I got prob an honest half gallon. Don't go here, they are scamming you. Turns out the bay has been closed by the state health and these are most likely from frozen stock or a bandit source. read more

All three days; however, we had to face disappointment on the side... No stuffed jalapenos or boudin balls! This is a place to buy fish, oysters, and other seafood, as well as picking up po boys. They have a little kitchen in the back of this seafood restaurant. Walking up, the front window wasn't manned, so we went inside to order. They have a few different choices of fresh fish that seems like it came from the bay. They had tubs of shucked oysters available, with no mention of where they came from. The service wasn't very great- aloof and slow. They'd take one order at a time, taking their sweet time getting the orders placed. I gotta say, it is one of the best po boys I've had- the oysters were fried with a delicious dark breading- crispy. The oysters were fresh, and there were a few fresh veggie toppings on the sandwich. The bread roll was a crisp, flaky French roll. The fries were greasy and not fully cooked- but topped with a cajun spice. Not very appetizing. There were no options for condiments- a lil' hot sauce would be appreciated. The seafood market was rather small, and many of the 'specialty' prepackaged items are available at the local grocery store at a lower price. But this is a small, local business. There's one picnic table to eat your food at here. It's in the direct sun and has no shade. They don't offer any amenities for customers looking to eat here. read more

Buyer beware. Much of what is sold here is shipped in from who knows where. The grouper and snapper is local but pricier than other retailers in the area and it is not any better or fresher than other retail venues. What troubled me was the fishmonger trying to tell me that the salmon was from Florida. WHAT? The crab was the biggest turnoff. Was told it was also from Florida, and that is plausible BUT, I found out when I returned back to my RV that the crab was 1. from Indonesia 2. It was supposed to be crab claw meat - maybe 20% was claw meat, and 3. the crab meat had been pasteurized. NASTY. I would strongly recommend passing on shopping at Alby's. I can recommend PJ's where I have found some really fresh fish and local fresh shrimp with really very fair pricing. read more

Stopped by on the weekend to score some fresh shrimp. They had a three different kinds/sizes. I asked if they were all freshly caught Gulf Shriimp and was told that they turn over the inventory daily and everything was less than a day old. Purchased a pound of the smaller white ones. When I opened the bag at home, was struck by the heavy fishy smell. Cooked them anyway. Terrible. They lied to me! Will not ever buy from them again. She called my daughters "Wetbacks", we were all born in the United States & all have good jobs & a few have served our country. Best fried seafood in Rockport/Fulton - the shrimp is second to none - get a po- boy or a plate doesn't matter. The fries and coleslaw also the best - coleslaw like KFC type only better - fries are hand cut and skinny with some skin - boardwalk style - no salt or seasoning required. Weird as it sounds their cocktail sauce and tartar are homemade and kicked up - I like my cocktail sauce almost white with horseradish, theirs is awesomely kicked up and tartar has lemon and dill - - in short - a must do. Call ahead and they'll even bring it to your car! It's a fish market - know that when you walk in - only two picnic tables outside but everything is made fresh while you wait. We stopped here for lunch on our tour of beaches in Rockport, Port A and Corpus. When you're at the beach one must eat seafood every chance you get. We had an oyster poboy, and a couple of shrimp plates. Poboy was great, shrimp was also great. Seafood should taste like it came from the ocean and their food does. On a side note, the adjoining fish market smells like fish, so you should expect that, it's seafood. We liked it so much we stopped again on our way home even though it was out of the way this time. I went a second time for the fries only, as we had dinner reservations at a local restaurant that evening and did not want to ruin my appetite. Once I ordered the fries, the counter worker said " let me see if we have any left " ,,,any potatoes left? Humm? This was at noontime . She and another older women returned to the counter, and I basically had a stare down with the older woman. After, literally, 15 seconds, I opened my mouth by stating the above (dinner reservations). After my explanation, she agreed to make the fries. While waiting, I was asked ( not to make small talk, but to confirm my story) where I was dining that evening by two employees . Once I received my fries, I was asked where I was going that evening by the older woman, who then handed me my fries. They were EXTREMELY salty. This is not just my opinion. I haven't bought raw food from them but see oysters coming into the warehouse all the time. The cole slaw is excellent but I'd request a better portion. Fries are like you get on the boardwalk. We had our first encounter this past weekend with racism. The lady named Dee who works up front was beyond rude when I went in to purchase a good amount of bait for Michael's birthday trip out in Rockport just this past weekend. She was extremely unprofessional and was on her phone the entire time as I asked her questions concerning the freshness of the shrimp. The instant she was confronted on the matter she became more rude stating she could care less and she dont "give a F***". We responded with stating she was giving the business a bad name and her response was that we were giving "wetbacks" a bad name before proceeding to the office and slamming the door behind her. I was in such shock that I just walked out and immediately told my husband what had happened. My 16 year old daughter, as well as my sister accompanied me into Albys as the entire situation played out.
