Has redundant "belay operator" certificate. So only adults can do it or kids who go to their summer camp for 100+ dollars. Personally, it feels redundant for more mature kids and who have done belaying at other gyms by themselves without help with adult, ended up ruining the experience because some of the adults weren't able to easily travel to the areas. And some of the staff were condescending. read more

I visit every time I come to Tallahassee. Extremely welcoming staff with a great feeling to the gym. In terms of the setting, I found a great variety in the movement and difficulty of well-graded problems. Didn't try the ropes out, but the bouldering felt exactly how a climbing gym should. read more

This gym was my home gym for a while. First it's in an old movie theater this space is amazing so if you like fun climbs this is a must. The atmosphere is awesome and the team is super helpful and kind. Great snack selections as well. The boulder room is a little small but they have been updating the routes pretty often so it keeps it pretty interesting. Great for young and new climbers also! They have a great team who work really well with kids and make sure they have a great time while still maintaining a great environment and experience for adult climbers. The weight room can be a little dreary but again they use it for more than just weights like having member movie nights and yoga classes. If you top rope or belay this gym will be heaven for you with a lot of great options for rope climbers. Can't wait to come back and climb here again! read more

A super cool spot to go rock climbing especially if you grew up in tally. This abandoned theater turned rock gym is so cool to see. Remembering when I used to go here as a kid and watch the Fast and the Furious movies with my parents and seeing it all stripped down it's super cool. But not only is it a place of nostalgia, Alchemy Climbing is a great quality place to go climbing. From the extremely nice and helpful staff to the quality time you can spend in here and it not feel like time is passing. We got a 2 hour session and going into it I thought it was a little long. I just remembered paying for an hour at sky zone but getting bored after 30 minutes. But it didn't feel long at all, even the people also climbing they were super helpful and the vibe is chill. 5/5 would recommend read more

It's a small gym, but the staff does what it can to maximize the space. There aren't many climbing spots in Florida, so I had to stop by Tallahassee Rock Gym on the way home from a wedding in Panama City. The gym is located in a cool part of town, and I see why they say it's a hidden gem. There are both bouldering and top rope options. No auto-belays here, so if you like longer routes, then bring a buddy! The setting is decent, too. I came during a really slow time during the day, and I can't imagine what it would be like if crowded. However, this place has good reviews, so I'm certain people find a way to have fun in the small space even when it's busy. read more

Absolutely exhilarating experience with a vibrant atmosphere! Initially visited for a one-time experience but was compelled to secure a membership. The Tallahassee Rock Gym is one of the best times in Tallahassee. I have been there several times and love learning more about the sport of rock climbing. Like the other review said, the first time is a little more than you'd expect, but compared to other gyms across the country, it's the cheapest I've ever been to and the most laid back. The best part is the Monday night FSU Rock Climbing Club (you don't have to be a student to participate, TCC/ FAMU -ers are welcome too!).. It's super fun and it allowed me to meet new people and make climbing more social. It's such a great workout. I highly recommend this place. read more

I've gone to several climbing gyms only to bolder mainly climbing 4-5's. I went with my friend we're about 5'7and most of the routes were not very creative and did not seem fair to women or shorter climbers ( such as some of the mantling routes both our legs weren't long enough to get to the other hold). There was no air conditioning and not many fans as well has barely any space to take a break. Although I did really like the training area as well as the kilter. Overall I will not be returning there are much better climbing gyms! read more

Really awesome location in an old railroad warehouse. Off and on customer for 10 years. I have belayed a few times, but I mostly go to boulder. Climbing is a great workout. If you want to climb frequently, they offer memberships. You can also purchase gear here. Customer service has always been great. The workers are friendly and helpful. The gym sells drinks, but be prepared to need lots of hydration during the hotter months because the gym isn't air conditioned. Yoga and fitness classes offered too. read more

This was my first time here and I came with my bestie. I had picked up a Groupon for it because as someone who has never been indoor rock climbing, I didn't know how I would feel the first time. I suggest signing the waiver online before coming in because I think that saved a lot of hassle. We walked in and introduced ourselves, we got a quick tour of the facilities. There are bathrooms and they do sell drinks and a few snacks. They also have water fountains to refill bottles. We just brought our bottles in and were fine. We were fitted with our shoes. We took our belay class with John who was super nice and patient despite our many jokes and giggles. The class went very well and he repeated things and answered any random questions we had. It wasn't too crazy busy when we went. There was a kids class happening and some very awesome climbers in the gym, but we still had space. You can tell there's definitely a group/family atmosphere which I appreciate, but no one was intimidating or being jerkish. We climbed a few more times after getting signed off on our belay instruction. We also did a few bits of bouldering. We were in there from 5 until 7 and you can stay until they close with a day pass, but my forearms are shot. I think it's a great workout and I would love to come back again and give it a go. I would recommend for first time climbers, for sure. Everyone was really nice and welcoming and it is in a cool area. read more

This was a very fun place to go rock climbing. It is a little pricey for your first time because you have to get trained on how to use the ropes and things. Also, you have to rent shoes or buy them, so that costs too. Be sure and bring something to drink if you go because there is no air conditioning. It is really really fun though, you can just boulder on the lower part of the wall, or you can climb all the way up. The cost is less for just bouldering. Everyone is really nice and helpful in giving you strategies. It does require lots of arm strength, but it is worth the visit. read more

Super small gym with no A/C. I was really surprised to see just a handful of belay routes, though I only bouldered. There is hardly any room to take a break between routes so climbers sit pretty close to the wall. The routes were fun, and the staff were friendly though. It was good to check out for the day while I was visiting Tallahassee. read more

Good facilities but expensive and hot with poor amenities. Rental shoes were old and the attendant did not know how to help fit people. There were minimal staff on hand and no classes seemed to be going on. Would rather drive further to find a real rock gym. read more

TRG is not very big and it can get really hot in the summer but it is such a fun place and everyone who goes there including the staff is super nice! It has such a nice and chill atmosphere. The Tallahassee Rock Gym was a great partner in my recovery from an accident. With the support of the staff and the community of climbers I was able to regain full use and strength in my broken shoulder. This is an eclectic gem on Tallahassee and a refreshing break from over-commercialized exercise venues. I felt safe under the guidance of the staff, and once I demonstrated some competency they turned me loose to explore the facility. It only took about 30 minutes to wear myself out the first time, so if you are a newbie remember to pace yourself and drink plenty of water. read more
