Very convenient to get to just a few miles off the highway. They also sell at the OP farmers market which is how we learned about their farm. We've even discovered new varieties of applied like blondes- crisp and tart, and Arkansas black- softer but with clove flavor. As a Michigander I'm an apple snob & this orchard checks all the boxes for me. Plus, kittens?

When I go older and had my own kids, I told them how much I used to love picking apples with my family. I tried to look up Stephenson's and saw they had closed. After a quick google search, I found Sunflower Orchard and was glad it wasn't too far of a drive. When we arrived, I will admit I was a bit disappointed by the size of the trees. I was hoping for large trees that the kids would have to climb up to get. The disappointment was short-lived because as soon as I tasted their fuji apple I was so excited to try other varieties. We grabbed a couple bags and went to explore their orchard and discovered some new varieties. Our favorites were the ultragold and winecrisp. There was a candy crisp that the kids also liked. I would highly recommend everyone to add Sunflower Orchard to their list of fall traditions!

Fantastic you-pick farm!…read more I wanted to pick some sort of fruit while I was running around the countryside near Lexington. Yelp found Fahrmeier's Farm and a quick visit to their website informed me that blackberry season had just opened! Well who doesn't like blackberries? So off we go, ready to go pick some fruit on the way to the Battle of Lexington State Historic Park. Super friendly girl came out to greet us and escorted us to a row of blackberries that she said were especially delicious. She showed us how to pick them, twist not pull, and then off we were! These blackberries were the largest berries I have ever seen! A few were as long as my thumb. They were bursting with sweet juiciness. I couldn't help eating one or two during the picking process, but they all looked so good. I'm pretty sure I picked all of the best ones... lol... ok not really, but had a whole tray at the end of going down one row and back up the other side. All those berries cost less than $20 too! I think the total was like $17 and change for about 4-5 lbs at $3.99/lb. Everyone in the little market was friendly and they had a few things for sale there from their farm, fresh eggs, ginormous tomatoes (seriously, huge, like 3-4 lbs) and various other things including cold drinks. You end up with an open tray of berries in a bag that only covers half, so be careful driving with them. But I had the best time being a city gal in the country and seeing cute goats and birds flying around. I had some berries on my cereal this morning and omg so delicious - seriously the best I've ever had. My bf doesn't think I can eat all the ones I picked. Watch me.

Great bargains can be had here, but you can also spend money on produce that you will be throwing away very quickly after purchase if not inspected thoroughly and used ASAP. Make sure to carefully inspect the ripeness / color / texture / firmness of every object and open those packages of berries; there can be hidden mold on many products. There is a reason things are marked down so cheap; preparing a dinner for that evening - go for it. Stocking up for the week - think twice. My favorite bargains are when avocados are 4 / $1 or flats of bananas are $3. A great way to overindulge on some tasty guacamole (get the seasoning next door) or a cheap healthy treat for the office staff. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd visit daily and knock down my grocery bill by 75%.

RE: COUNTRY MART, CLINTON, MISSOURI…read more In December, 2013 I slipped on a patch of dark ice on the parking lot of Country Mart in Clinton, MO. 2 African American ladies saw me fall. One of the ladies helped me into the store and I met with MR. DANTE PASSANTINO, CO-OWNER. I wanted to write a police report but he told me it was not necessary that he would "take care of me".. I seriously hurt myself and insisted they write a store report of the incident and give me a copy. They wrote the report but refused giving me a copy. I was in pain and needed to get home to rest.. At the time, I was almost 73 and he told me his father fell at about the same age and was never the same until he died 5 years later. He told me to keep in touch with him. In February, 2014 I sent a letter to engage with him to somehow make some effort to resolve my fall. It fell on deft ears. I never heard back from him. Now I am 76 and my shoulder and left hip and leg have serious problems. I can barely lift my left arm, that was used to brace my fall. And my groin was strained when I slipped on the ice and twisted my ankle. I am a retired, disabled Veteran and Mr. Passantino is not a person of his word. He is not a good person. This is how Passantino treated me, an elderly, retired disabled Veteran. What kind of person would treat me like that? If anyone would like to respond to me, kindly write me at 2014domrep@gmail.com. I would like to hear from you. God bless anyone who responds. Robert F. Kuhlmann USAF RETIRED Disabled Veteran
