Slim's is a pretty typical roadside fruit and vegetable market. More than a stand, less than a store. What you find, of course, depends on the time of year. This stop we enjoyed some Iowa grown tomatoes and Iowa baked Kringla. They also round out their offerings with some less than local produce, such as Georgia peaches. They also have a variety of, mostly local, jams and the like. It's not necessarily the cheapest place to shop, but quality is consistently good. It's located west of downtown Story City at the intersection with Highway 69. It's a two minute drive. If you're in town for the carousel, the Scandinavian thing... try Hwy 69 rather than I-35 for a change and enjoy some fruit and veggies.

A whole crew was inside the business, visibly baking in the back. We were greeted and offered sample cups of apple pie, which were delicious. I scouted out the cheese selection; it is fantastic, with a nice variety of Wisconsin cheeses by makers like Hook's, Marieke Gouda, and Hoards. They do not sell pie by the slice. They have full-sized fresh pies and also frozen pies in small and large sizes. We bought a small frozen apple pie, because that's what would fit in our cooler. I also bought a goodly pile of cheese. Leaving the business was much easier, as we were able to turn onto Highway 60 toward Mankato.

I went there seeking some fresh cider for winemaking; I brought my own 5 gallon container and even though they were extremely busy they filled it for me and I only waited about 15 minutes, which they apologized for but I was thrilled, because most places make you drop off the container and come back for it when it's filled. Well, that would have been another 30 mile drive for me so I was very happy to get it and go. The staff was very freindly, and let my two young daughters sample several apples and drink fresh cider while we were waiting. Deffinitely two thumbs up for Wescott Orchard!!! Absolutely glorious. The current apples included Zestar, Honeycrisp, and Sweetango. The shop included honey, maple syrup, a good variety of jams, and other products. They had a great selection of freshly baked goods, and also had some frozen apple pies available. We bought an apple turnover and kolache along with two bags of 1/2 peck bags of apples and a strawberry jam. The woman at the counter was very friendly and helpful. We shared the pastries, and WOW, they were good. Based on those, I'd love to try their apple pie someday!

There new shipment arrives on Mondays and Friday early afternoon typically - so that's when you can expect many shoppers to come by and try to grab the freshest produce. I think this market is really great for Southeast cooking specifically although it also has a great range of Korean ingredients! Does have a good range of ingredients for Chinese cooking. It is a huge market. Fresh produce, dried noodles, frozen foods and cooking ware are all in the very very back! :) Produce is typically pretty fresh and service is always top notch.
