Aldi is a Mecca for salty, sweetened and over processed groceries. Juxtaposition to good fresh produce and some organic healthier options. Workers fulfilling online orders push you aside, kids run wild with parents screaming at them.... Aldi is a runaway train. Huge shopping carts, small print shelf labels and weird seasonal merch mix. But Aldi is clean, bright and offers good pricing (although I am not a fan of the selection). It's in the Sav A Lot genre. read more

I'm definitely a fan of Aldi! I've seen the stores around for years and never thought twice about them. It was only until I saw them in Germany that I was intrigued (and shocked!) I never knew the story behind the store and I loved the idea of the imported goods...and then I went and saw the prices! Score! The kiddos love going because they see similar packaging to brands they know and love. They think it's hilarious to guess the generic versions of big box brands. And I love the fact that they're almost half the price! I personally think it's great for small packaged to-go snacks such as little packages of cheese and grapes, crackers and hummus etc. Mamas, it's awesome for school lunches! Their dip section is wonderful and makes a great stop for a game day party. Their pickle dip is to die for, but a little hard to find on the regular. Definitely hitting this up for a super bowl party! Most recently I made a killer Chocolate charcuterie board with all of their imported German chocolate! It was such a hit! Hazelnut, dark chili, chocolate covered almonds, chocolate covered acai berries, assorted truffles etc! It was so fun to make, made a lovely presentation and was pretty reasonable! Oh, everyone raved about the coconut macaroons! Their French style macaron in the frozen section are surprisingly to die for!! Their spanakopita is insane! Serve that with the spinach artichoke tzatziki! Wowza! Their bacon wrapped scallops and seasoned wild caught salmon are always a hit. I know some pretty fancy women who actually serve their chocolate cakes from here! They're $3.50 and apparently always a hit! Their brioche are pretty great too. They just redid this location and now it's double the size. It's massive and much more cart friendly! Don't forget your (refundable) quarter for the cart and your own shipping bags. I gotta say that I really love that they encourage green living! I don't get all of my shopping done here, but definitely like it for snacks for kiddos, imported goods and some less fancy party hosting finds. Negative would be that they don't always have the same thing each time I'm looking for it, it but on the flip side, I always find new things to discover! read more

This Aldi location is one of the "older" locations which has the older layout. However don't let that fool you, they still have some great finds and good deals. Navigating the store is easy and due to the small footprint of the store, I can easily find what I need. Also there is the seasonal/weekly aisles which are jokingly referred to by some as the infamous "aisle of shame." These are items that are limited stock, so once they are gone they are gone until next year. The reason I'm docking one star is due to one of the cashiers rudely shutting down the register we were waiting in line for. It would of been nice to have a heads up. With the exception of that individual, I have had pleasant interactions with the staff. Things to know: -have a quarter ready for a cart, don't worry you will get it back upon return -plan to bring your own reusable shopping bags or be prepared to pay for bags (although not sure how this will work with the impending plastic bag ban set to take place soon). -be careful in the produce aisle, some items may seem like a good price but the price listed is per pound -if you are vaccinated, no mask required -social distancing is no longer enforced, although there are signs and floor markers all over the place -if you see plants near the register (and happen to like gardening), they are usually priced much lower than competitors and are usually a steal read more

You can save some serious CASH here--and it's not just generic products. I had been wanting to go forever, but had this vague notion that it was going to be all stale boxes of knock-off "Ritz" crackers and Shiz. Suffice to say, I am in love. And I was wrong. This joint is Legit and will save you major ducats. For example, I shopped here for my Christmas Cocktail Party and probably saved about $100 from the same items I would have purchased at my regular supermarket haunts--Acme and Shop Rite. Not only do they have decent generics--great crackers, cookies, snacks--but in some cases I found them to be even better than the pricey national brands. The crackers I got to go with my fancy cheese--were fabulous--and better than any keebler or nabisco varieties I've had. Speaking of cheese, I got a TRUFFLED Goat cheese there for $3.99--that definitely would have cost in the vicinity of $10 at whole foods. Also picked up: Shrimp cocktail ring with cocktail sauce in the center all ready to serve for 6.99 (instant party) , heat and eat hors d'oeuvres, very delicious smelling holiday candles in spice and pine for about half of the price of even CVS--it's february and they are still burning! I think they were 3.99 apiece. what else? they have decent dairy, frozen , dry goods, and even some specialty foods. My suggestion is to shop here FIRST, see if you can knock out as many of your staple sundries as possible, then hit Shop Rite on Oregon, which is the second best priced grocery store, then get your speciality or any treats at whole foods last, including produce. I would not shop for produce here....not great and I am very particular about the quality of my produce. I do NOT like to grocery shop--not a pass time for me, so I would suggest going here once a month, since the majority of their items are not perishable. Also, make sure to bring your own bags and your muscles--they will charge you--for rather sturdy bags--but still. And you have to be prepared to bag and walk your own bags to the car. read more

Went to Aldi to get a pool for my grandchildren on Saturday which cost $32. When I returned today which is 4 days later the price was $7.90. A gluten free wonderland! We just enjoyed our own little adventure here last night and were PLEASANTLY surprised by all that ALDI had to offer. Gluten free stuff, various house hold items, difficult to find items, all at an incredibly reasonable price. For dinner last night we had turkey sausage (good, but also very salty), the guac (EXCELLENT), among some of the cheap canned beans and rice. Oh they have gluten free pasta and gluten free bread everywhere. We did also buy bags of veggies and such. Very happy to discover this place. We will definitely be back. While it probably won't replace Shop Rite, it will definitely be a first stop. read more

This location has been remodeled and they carry a variety of stuff. The only thing I can say is the milk I purchased had an expiration date of 08/19/2019 and it has already gone bad. I think there may have been an issue with the labels. Also, strawberries that I purchased have already gone bad within one day of buying them. Aldi is an acquired taste, but it is a taste that I have acquired. First of all, I think people should understand how Aldi works. The company is massive, one of the biggest grocery chains in the world. They have found success by basically identifying the top 1000 selling products at grocery stores and then selling those products under their own branding. Many of the products are made by the name-brand companies but are labeled under the various Aldi brand names. As a result, most of the products you will find to be the same quality as the national brands but at a significant discount. There are a few quirks to Aldi that you have to get used to. 1) you have to put a quarter in the carts to use them...not a big deal, and it prevents aldi from having to pay someone to collect carts in the parking lots. The only issue is if you show up and don't have a quarter, you'll have to ask for change or start panhandling. 2) Aldi does not provide bags for free. Most people elect to bring their own bags. They do offer paper and plastic bags for 10 cents or something. 3) No credit cards...debit only. Overall, Aldi is a great place to shop and save some money. They don't offer every item that a standard grocery store has so you may need to make two trips, but you will save money. Their produce is an exceptional value and normally very good. The south philly location is a good spot...no complaints. Friendly people. Sometimes the lines are long, but the check out people at Aldi are 10x as fast as any other store you'll go to, so you won't have to wait long. read more

Never been to an Aldi until I moved here to South Philly. I don't even know why I wasted time, frustration, and money at Pathmark because this place is amazing. They always have amazing quality products and crazy good prices. Wild caught salmon stuffed with REAL crab? 2.99 per filet. Yes please! Coconut & herb crusted flounder? $2.99 x4 filets. I haven't been inside an Aldi in almost ten years, but I went recently and was impressed. My roommate and I had a cart full of food and spent less than $60, that amount of food anywhere else would have easily been double that price. They don't have a large variety of stuff, so as others have said, don't expect to do your entire grocery order here, but what they do have is really cheap so it is worth the trip. You can find some name brand stuff here, most of it is off-brand, but the off-brand stuff I've tried so far has been just as good as the name brand items. For example, the store-brand Fit & Active fruit punch flavored water enhancer tastes just as good as the Mio brand fruit punch but at almost $1.50 less. I hate the checkout process, though. They scan everything and dump it back into the empty cart and then after you're done, you step off to the side and bag everything. It seems like such an unnecessary step when you could easily just dump everything into the bags as you're ringing it up. read more

This is my second time here and I am currently standing here watching an employee yell at a customer "because they told them to only move 1 cart at a time". Most employees are extremely disrespectful and the fact that there is clearly no management to stop it or maybe that is the manager. It shows that I should shop somewhere else. We've been to this location a number of times and never had any bad experiences. The other day we witnessed a customer being really rude to one of the cashiers on a very busy day, but the cashier handled it very well. On top of that, there was a customer who was short some money for her bill, so the same cashier, Rosa, paid $20 out of her own pocket to help this individual out. The rude customer was too busy complaining about having to wait in line to see the kindness that Rosa displayed toward a complete stranger. We'll definitely be going back. We admire the patience of the cashiers in dealing with the occasional busy line and the occasional unsavory customers. read more

If you're not shopping at Aldi you're just throwing your money away. Best prices on most things in the city. Just be sure to bring your own bags like when you go to BJ's or Costco. It's like shopping there only on a smaller scale. The staff has a very difficult job so be nice to them because they do it admirably well and are very kind. Try to go during the off hours because it gets quite busy. And bring a quarter with you to stick in the grocery cart wish you would have returned to you when you return the grocery cart. Aldi used to be my favorite inexpensive place to go supermarket shopping, but I noticed once they were caught on, they start raising their prices on everything. They still have some good deals, but they are becoming fewer and fewer. Their fabric softner was real good at a bargain, now the fabric softner is higher than name brand, same thing goes for their clothes detergent. I also found their canned pineapples quality is not the same as Dole, but the price is less than a dollar a can. You have to be careful with their produce, especially their lemons, the price is right, but they seem to go bad quickly. read more

I shop at aldi for all of my produce and basics. The regular prices are typically much better than any sale prices at the regular grocery stores and the quality is just as good. The only thing I don't recommend buying here is the generic soda. I usually don't mind them, but the sweeteners used gives me a head ache. This front street aldi is much friendlier than the one in north philly and I feel perfectly safe here. read more

Avoid meat!! Some of these will expire on the day or within few days. Other canned goods are cheap, but you don't know where they come from. I bought some frozen stuff and grains, and cereal. So I started shopping here a few months ago, I was skeptical at first. How great could the quality be at such low prices? Well when I checked out the first time and my total was around $30 for just about all the staples that I needed, I was certainly lured back. I tried all the basics first, then I tried their chicken breasts. The first few packs were good, but the last one I used had a bone in it that looked like the foot of the chicken. It was so repulsive, I found it in my mouth while I was eating. The following day I had food poison. Needless to say, all the chicken I had from Aldi was trashed. I haven't been there since.
