Today, family members grow vegetables such as corn and fruits such as apples. According to the family's website, they use both conventional and organic farming practices. On the farm's website, I also read that throughout the year, Shenot Farm offers events such as hayrides; pick-your-own flowers, apples, and pumpkins; and pumpkin-smashes. In the autumn they sell flowers, pumpkins, cornstalks, Thanksgiving turkeys, and fruit baskets, and in the winter they sell Christmas trees and wreaths. On a Saturday, my husband and I visited this farm's market to browse their foods. We parked our vehicle in their free parking lot. Inside the market, we saw foods such as lettuce, cabbage, green beans, brussels sprouts, beets, plums, sausages, chicken meats, eggs, milk, cheeses, apple ciders, cookies, pies, fudges, popcorns, jams, bread loaves, bagels, seasonings, sauces and dressings, salsas, applesauces, syrups, dessert mixes, granolas, teas, honeys, ice creams, etcetera! We also saw some non-food items such as candles and t-shirts. I selected an orange-colored "cheddar" cauliflower head, apple crisp mix, caramel-apple-pie fudge, and jars of banana butter, strawberry jelly, and apple butter. My husband and I had not previously eaten a few of the unique products, so we felt excited to try them. At the checkout counter, an employee promptly greeted us, accurately rang up our purchase, carefully bagged our foods, and thanked us. Each food cost roughly several dollars.

Boy will you be wrong- the place extends well out into the back! We didn't go into the nursery area but the plants were gorgeous. Go into the market store area- it is huge! There's a bakery, a deli, a little lunch spot, groceries, candies, home goods etc. I want to highlight the little wine section with the kindest lady working there. She gave us a tour of the entire place - that's how we found out the place was much more than meets the eye! We sampled several different wines, and purchased several! One of the wines sold there supports a rescue group with every sale. We bought some jams (birthday gifts), honey and hot sauces from the store. Traverse out back, there's the original barn that is a gift shop (3 stories), lots of unique items, a farm petting barn of animals rescued from slaughterhouses, a separate store for those with allergies that they can shop specific allergen friendly food. An ice cream stand, a hard cider ale house and some play areas for the children. We stopped in the arsenal ale house to have a drink and that was delicious too! We were hungry after and were looking for place to eat then we remembered there was a little lunch spot in the store so back in we went! Perfect tied over lunch, great sandwiches, pickles have got to be homemade. Drinks from cooler- super refreshing. Definitely will be back.

We arrived and found ample parking and went inside. There is so much inside: you can find donuts from Orum's on Saturday (we bought 6) and there is fresh bread, dinner rolls, jams, and other pastries available. Toward the back are farm fresh vegetables, milk, etc. They have an ice cream counter and things like honey, etc. nearby. We, also, stopped by Arrowhead winery inside to sample their wines: the lady behind the counter was super helpful and knowledgeable about their wines and the wine-making process. Overall, you will find yourself spending more time and money than you expected but you will, also, be planning your next visit. There is a lot to see outside and we did not get a chance to really investigate the outside as there was so much inside. We will be back: bringing a cooler next time to buy some wine so we can keep it fresh if it happens to be a warm day.

The entry fee gets you access to everything mentioned. There were 3 food trucks in front, and also their main building consists of fresh picked vegetables (a big assortment of peppers ranging from mild to hot) and other handmade local goods. Prices are very reasonable as well. If you don't want to pick your own pumpkin, there are also ones that you can just choose and purchase in front of their main building, along with cornstalks. Let me tell you, this hayride is by far the best I've been on. From the cleanliness of the farm and the hayride, to the organization and friendliness of the employees. They close at 5pm on Saturdays, and advertise that their last hayride is at 4pm, but they went until almost closing due to there still being people who wanted to ride. There were 2 tractors that took patrons to and from the pumpkin area. The ride to the area was about 5 or so minutes, and coming back was about 10 minutes. While riding, you get views of the whole farm, a view of a pond and also ride through their orchards. The tractors and seating area were clean and in good shape. The pumpkin patch had a lot to choose from and different shapes, sizes and colors. Many were still on the vine. The price for the pumpkins is $0.42 per pound. I got one huge pumpkin, and 4 small ones for $12. Not bad at all! This farm has yearly events, and I can't wait to return. Definitely recommended!

We didn't realize at the time that the hale bale sculptures are an annual event at the farm. This is a place where you need to be careful when you are buying produce. The current "in season" items right now are corn on the cob, tomatoes, peaches, and melons. There is a dairy case but nothing exciting about it along with a meat case. I wasn't impressed with the meats in it nor with the frozen cherries I saw. For the most part you can spend under $10.00 depending on what you get. I was blown away by the huge cantaloupes they had for sale. They were $4.50 each. Unfortunately when I got my selected melon home and began to cut it the juice ran all over the place and I could tell it was overripe. They do have items noted directly from farms. I ended up with a green pepper for $.25. Other peppers were a bit more. For corn on the cob you can get either white or yellow corn. I choose half a dozen white. They come prebagged and the one I selected had an extra ear of corn for free. I cooked one of those up when I got home and it was fresh and good. I was taken aback however when I saw they were selling overriped bananas that had started to turn brown. Normally I would find this type of thing in your regular supermarket but never in a place like this. They sell other things like popcorn and honey and jams to name a few. I was told that their greenhouse is currently undergoing transformation for fall so I really didn't get an opportunity to visit it. I asked about their other location in Cecil and learned that it was basically a nursery as opposed to a farmer's market. It is run by someone else in their family. The staff is friendly and helpful in explaining things to me. Credit cards are accepted on any order over $10.00. It is located on Bower Hill Road as you head towards Bridgeville.
