I ended up taking it to LP vs my regular mechanics because they were near where the vehicle was, and on the recommendation of one of the trans shops I had talked to. Fun Fact: If you're replacing vs fixing, which seems to be most of what goes on nowadays, there's no reason to use a transmission specialty shop. Their rates are always higher than regular mechanics, and most regular shops can swap them fine... They just don't like actually tearing them apart and fixing them. So save yourself some money and just use your regular guy, or a shop like LP I ended up finding my own used transmission because getting a remanufactured one just didn't make sense money wise with the mileage on my rig. They were patient while I secured that and weren't trying to rush me. The guys there were cool and easy to deal with. They did the swap just fine and got my vehicle going again! They also took care of some other odds and ends I already knew about, and found out one issue I thought was one thing was actually 2 worn parts contributing to the same issue. Shop rates are reasonable compared to other places, and they did good work. I don't live near them, but would definitely take a rig back there if I ever needed to.

We asked around for recommendations from family members, friends, and also looked at online reviews. Lloyd's came up several times, so we decided to give him a try. They've been absolutely great every time we've had to bring our vehicle in. Their prices are more than reasonable, there's even been a couple of occasions where they have told us of less expensive ways to get repairs done. Which I really appreciate. I would definitely recommend taking your late model car to them. We've never had any issues, have always been very pleased with the work, and really appreciate the customer service as well.

Unfortunately, during my last couple of visits, I was disappointed by how much their pricing has increased and how much they upcharge for parts. I understand the need to charge a diagnostic fee. However, charging $150 to scan a vehicle--a process that takes only a few minutes--and then not applying any portion of that fee toward the actual repair labor feels excessive. During my most recent visit, I had already identified the problem and had priced the cost of both OEM and aftermarket replacement parts before bringing my vehicle in. When I received the invoice, I was surprised to see that the part had been marked up by approximately 125%. While I recognize that repair shops mark up parts, this level of markup seemed unreasonable. As I mentioned, I have always trusted the quality of Lloyd's workmanship, but I no longer have the same confidence in their pricing. After comparing estimates from several other repair shops for the same repair, I found that Lloyd's was by far the most expensive. Because of this, I have made the decision to have my vehicles serviced elsewhere. I regret having to do so after being a loyal customer for two decades, but I hope this feedback is helpful as you evaluate your pricing practices.

I felt ripped off!…read more First of all, we were visiting from California and our AC broke the day we got here. We were going to be here a month and it was hot so we needed it repaired. A perfect scenario for a mechanic to rip us off and believe me, they tried. They were really nice while doing it though, so that is why I have them the two stars. I'm talking about Silverlake Automotive on Sherman. We took our car there to start and just asked them to check the AC. They of course came back with "looking over" the whole car and giving us their recommended fixes, including our AC. It was $7800 worth of "repairs" and $3200 of that was for the AC clutch, flush, etc. but they made the mistake by telling us that they looked at our carfax to see what repairs and services we had done to determine their recommendations. Mind you our truck is a 2015 that we bought brand new and it only has 48k miles so not sure how they came up with some of their recommendations. One of the recommendations we literally got done before we left on our road trip to Idaho and another one was for struts, so I knew it was BS. They also told me they needed to do the flush and extra stuff for them to "guarantee" their work so basically you are paying extra for their guarantee. We had to pay them $200 for the analysis though, but I knew we only needed the AC clutch and compressor repaired and also researched that they can tell if your lines are contaminated to where they would know if they needed to flush the lines. With that being said I submitted that analysis and quote here on yelp and it was sent to a few mechanics in the area. They all came back with less quotes but still expensive. Like $2k-$2200 and I had researched it really should not cost more than $1800 on the high end. I called Appleway Automotive based on other reviews and they said he was honest to a fault so I called them and talked to Todd. I told him I needed the AC clutch and compressor done and asked if he could give me a quote over the phone. He had no problem doing that and he also confirmed he would be able to tell if the lines would need to be flushed. He quoted me $1200. He was no BS. He made an appt for me a day and half later and said he needed my car for a day and got it done same day and didn't even call me to tell me I needed to flush the lines. When we dropped it off, he didn't try to do the small talk "I'm going to rip you off in disguise" nice talk they all do. I cannot say enough good about Appleway Automotive service and would highly recommend. I even sent my in-laws to him the next week as they were visiting and had some repairs that needed to be done but had the same issues we had with mechanics trying to require more than really needed to be done! I would steer clear of Silverlake Automotive. They are overpriced and will try to get away with what they can, if you let them, so make sure to do your own due diligence and call around first.
