The course taught us the basics and foundational skills for handling and future training. We decided to go ahead and try out the daycare & train as well. Today was his first day of daycare and he did great! We were nervous as he is pretty crazy and rambunctious but he was able to play with other dogs in a controlled safe environment which made me feel at ease. This place is great. You can tell they have put much thought into the facility. Lots of sun and shade depending on the weather as well as an indoor play area. The entire area is open but there are gated areas for a slow introduction to the general population for dogs that might need a little time to acclimate. I've done a month board and train and continue with bi weekly daycare - I'm so pleased. The staff are amazingly competent with reading dogs and I love watching such a large group of well behaved, balanced canines. Most of all my dog loves going and seeing his tail wag as we walk in the door is reason enough to keep going. read more

My wife and I wanted something more professional than a petco type of dog class, so we went here. We are appreciative of the "loose leash" training and dog handling tips we received. That being said , the somewhat militant approach of the class /trainer caused our dog to regress in confidence and aptitude(we learned a lot in the class as trainers...but our dog actually did worse than when we trained her on our own, prior to the class) . Especially frustrating, is that, after the 6-week course, they categorized our dog as "anxious" , without explaining why....requiring us to pay for day boarding... followed by day and board train sessions (basically a bunch of escalating costs) to qualify for boarding. After complaining... I am thankful for getting a follow up call from the manager. But I felt like even that effort was not great. It was a bit of a "defensive" call. when the manager said "we have been doing this for 20 years, so we know what's best". That's kind of like a school teacher saying that they know what's best for your kid vs you because they have been doing it for a while . I can't say I would recommend this place. read more

We were afraid we might have to re-home our 4 year German shepherd because of her increasing behavioral issues. We weren't able to get into a class for about a month due to COVID restrictions, but Sarah (I believe) gave us multiple training suggestions to help us in the meantime which really meant a lot!! They seriously care about helping people and their pets. On our first day of group training, we arrived early and our dog was already misbehaving. We were worried that she wouldn't be able to stay in the group class, but Ryan took his time to work with her before class even started so that she would be able to stay in group classes. In just those 10 minutes we already saw a difference in her attitude. Again, this meant a lot to us!!! We are coming up on our last class, and her behavior has improved immensely. It's amazing to be able to take her on walks and have no pulling/barking. We will be forever grateful to Ryan and his team for making it possible to keep our dog in the family! BE AWARE. I took my dog in for boarding (after being trained by Alert K-9) and after simply barking, they put a shock collar on my dog and shocked whenever my dog barked. I went through training with Alert K-9 with the puppy and adult off leash training, and they never once even hinted at using a shock collar on my dog. But all of a sudden when I try to board my dog, they shock him enough that I could hear my dogs yelps and cry's from the shocking from the lobby. read more

I have been so so so happy with the training we have done for our 6 month old shepherd mix. We started with Basic Puppy training and have moved onto continued education. I waited for three months to get into a class with them as I did not want the run of the mill PetSmart or Petco bs training. After a consult with Ryan we decided to do the 30 day board and train, Ryan took Duke and returned him the most well behaved dog I have ever met. He responds to commands immediately, his recall is amazing. If you call him while he's running off he stops immediately and comes right back. My daughter Darla Diamond went to a 3 week board and train here and a puppy class. She is almost perfect. I can take her anywhere and she is a polite well behaved lady that I'm super proud of. Even my boy who has a strong dislike of some people completely ignored a group of construction workers today. We walked right next to a construction worker today . About a foot away. Only a person who has lived with a reactive/aggressive dog or bickering dog siblings would know what a hell it is and Ms Darla would have been sent to live with my sister which would be terrible. My only regret is I should have put him completely through the board in train as a puppy because they do not accept intact dogs. I'm considering getting his genetic material frozen and him neutered just so he can go here. Its clean. The pens are big . We recently completed basic puppy training at Alert K9. Our experience was fantastic. Ryan and his team were extremely professional and have mastered the art of teaching puppies AND THEIR HUMAN PARENTS how to follow instructions. While this class is not a socializing with other puppies experience, we found that having our 5 month old Labradoodle around 13 other dogs, (ranging In size from tiny 4 lb breeds to very large puppies close to 100 lbs) was an added positive experience. Our primary goal was to learn how to train our dog to walk on a loose leash, calmly by our sides without pulling. By the end of the class we had accomplished this challenging feat, along with several other new positive behaviors. This is a bit delayed. I took my working GSD in at about 5-6months old for a group puppy class. She is in training for schutzhund, and we were having issues managing dog reactivity and pulling on a lead. In the 6 weeks Ryan worked with us, we were given the tools to deal with both issues. Now, I can safely take her hiking in dog-trafficked areas, she will focus on tracking around dogs, and she no longer yanks my arm out of its socket when walking. She is 100% more enjoyable to take out. He was sensitive to to the particulars of the sport she is in and did not contradict anything we were learning from our handler. Since then I have also boarded with them (not board and train in this instance). She returned happy, a little worn out of course, and healthy. I would, and have, highly recommend them. read more

I have always been scared to death of dogs, then my husband goes and brings home a pit bull pup for Christmas... who does that. Anyhow, we decided that we would need to get a trainer asap to make both myself and our son comfortable with the dog and have the safest environment possible. Even just with the phone consultations I could tell Alert K-9 would be our best bet. I could not be happier. The entire staff is AMAZING with the dogs and their owners alike. We have started with the private lessons where every lesson we learn SOOOO much and the dog gets better and better all the time. I'm actually ok being just he and I and am noticing an insane amount of progression. Ryan is able to get the dog to do what he wants when and how he wants so quickly! He definitely has a way with dogs and is teaching us his techniques. We have also started taking advantage of the day care they offer to help our puppy learn imperative socialization skills with the other dogs! This is incredible, he came home exhausted and slept so hard! I feel so good knowing that our puppy is learning how to properly interact not only with people but all kinds of dogs as well! At the beginning of 2009 - (I think my biological clock was ticking) I wanted a baby but opted for a puppy instead - a cute female mini bull terrier whom I named Tahine. After a month the cuteness wore off and the frustration set in. Mini bull terriers are just as stubborn as the standard bull terrier and I mean STUBBORN! She's a smart cookie but if she didn't want to do something she wasn't going to. It got to the point where she would literally turn her nose up at me and ignore me. Fast forward to the present time - Tahine is a fantastic dog! She listens although there are times where she has a mind of her own however, Ryan's not only trains the dog but trains the owners. I am able to work with Tahine to alleviate any frustrations. Ryan is a fantastic trainer! I absolutely recommend him to anyone who has an unruly dog. We are parents of two little dogs that pretty much stayed out of way and laid around the house all day. What were we thinking to take in another? A young pit bull at that! He was too curious about everything around him, esp. other dogs! We weren't used to all this energy. Always pulling as we walked him, getting his nose into everything and chewing stuff around the house. Our worst frustration was that the other two dogs didn't like him at all. Our mindset at the time was to give him up or get him some training. You can guess which route we went. After a few minutes at his very first session I was saying, "That's not the dog we came here with." We were absolutely amazed with Ryan at Alert K-9 and thought we had our own Bay Area Dog Whisperer (Cesar Milan). I wish I had the BEFORE video that he took of my husband running after our dog in the yard and the AFTER video of him walking next to him unleashed. You'd be laughing at how funny it was and also in awe of how we got him to stop running. And that was all in one session.
