We love this place! The only place that I'm not afraid to leave my "wild" gsp puppy for a whole day. She is in good hand with Ryan and his caring crew. Thank you.

Ryan and his team are absolute gems at what they do. Both of our dogs have gone through their training classes and the time invested has paid off. They really aren't joking when they say they "train the owner" - so expect to get real with yourself and your pup. We have, so far, participated in the puppy training group class, day and trains, and daycare. All of which have been great and helpful. Our girls love going and have benefitted from their services. Thanks Alert K9!

I highly recommend Alert K-9 training. The staff is very professional. I give Ryan and Meegan Tulchinsky a five-star rating. I worked with Ryan, he listens and pays attention to detail of what is needed to be addressed. I had an out-of-control Min Pin and am now very controlled. I know I have a lot more work to put into her, but I am very pleased with the results. My only complaint is that they are very busy and you need to book way in advance. Thank you Alert K-9.

We are officially 2 months post our month long board and train and I can't say enough about this training facility. Our dog, Raider, is a very stubborn American Bully with quite a few quarks which has earned him a very poor reputation amongst our community and friends. Raider spent a month with Ryan and now goes on daily off leash walks with me and my toddler. I am completely in control of Raider and he is getting the life he deserves. I was a little nervous about signing up for such intensive training because I didn't want him to be overtrained and lose his personality, but his level of obedience is exactly what we had hoped for. If you're looking for the dog whisperer, you've found him. Thank you to Ryan and team!

I have been so so so happy with the training we have done for our 6 month old shepherd mix. We started with Basic Puppy training and have moved onto continued education. We will be boarding our pup here soon as well. The understanding of the dogs thinking is like "magic". It is truly a gift, and I have been so happy with the investment we have made into teaching our pup to live up to his full potential. Thank you Alert K-9. Also, I am surprised there are not more positive reviews on Yelp, given the fact that everyone around town I have mentioned Alert K-9 to has raved about how wonderful Ryan does with the dogs as well. Keep up the good work!

Awesome program! Elisa was very knowledgeable and helpful with any questions I had. I had a lot too. I would recommend Alert K-9 over any other training companies. I waited for three months to get into a class with them as I did not want the run of the mill PetSmart or Petco bs training. I'd watched a few of both of their trainings and I couldn't believe how awful the instructors were engaging with the puppies. Alert K-9 came highly recommended and I'm glad I listened. Elisa was so wonderful with all of the pups, she was right on with all of the owners and teaching us 24/7. I can't recommend Alert K-9 any more!

    Rookie lab/ cattle dog mix

I took my 4 month old lab/cattle dog mix to Alert K-9 and was beyond thrilled with the result. Ryan is an excellent trainer, lots of patience, and extremely knowledgeable. I had taken my previous lab there 10 years ago for training, and he was the best dog I ever had! I would highly recommend Alert K-9! Susie Nelson

Upon entry, the dogs did get really excited to see huge screens of dogs...if you have dogs that react to seeing pets on TV - you know what I mean. The staff's demeanor is calm and encouraging. They brought our bigger dog (50lbs) into the area with similar sized pets..and the smaller dog (25lbs) went into that size group. Dogs are grouped together by size - which totally makes sense for safety. The "introduction" is done in about 30mins time...1 new camper..and a more "veteran" camper. The dogs were aware of each other in the space..but there was no forced meeting...they were able to sniff out each other's presence at a safe distance. 2 staff members are there, watching the body language of each dog. Very well done! Then..another dog is added, usually a female if both dogs introduced first are male. Same process...walk around...sniff the space at a non-confrontational distance. Then.,.more dogs are brought in....and the whole time, nervous Dog Mom and Dad are glued to the screens observing from the lobby. Haha..it's like watching your kid on a game show. There are "camp counselors" that encouraged dogs to "mingle"..and if they don't..they aren't forced. One of my dogs was looking for us the entire time. The other mingled and walked around and "sniffed" other dogs. We left them there for 3 hours..and watched them from home! The staff is constantly cleaning up and moving around...the dogs are able to socialize and "greet" other dogs. Definitely a place we will see again soon..just to get them used to the environment should we ever need to bring them to day care or overnight. Oh! They also take them to a "sleep suite" to see how they handle being solo. My dogs would sleep in the same space, but during the day they'd be separated. We like this because it will allow the younger dog to build confidence. I feel like our dogs would be safe here! It's a temperature controlled area with staff who genuinely look after the dogs and care about them. I'm very pleased with this space and how everything is presented! No..it's not an obedience school/training facility for pre-law enforcement K9s. There is no agility training course to bring your dog to genius SAT score level. It's a safe place that will see to your dog's needs during those times you can't be there. And really..that's all any loving pet parent wants. If we can't take them to the wedding...reunion...vacation..then we want them somewhere safe and somewhere that allows me to view them remotely while we are away. This gives us peace of mind.

We boarded our French Bulldog at Camp Bow Wow during a family vacation. One of our biggest concerns…read morewas that other dogs were repeatedly mounting her during daycare. We noticed this frequently on the live cameras and brought it to the staff's attention, asking that they be aware of it and help prevent it during her longer stay. Unfortunately, we continued to observe the behavior. When we picked her up, she had lost weight, had a runny nose, and her behavior around other dogs had changed significantly. Before boarding, she was much more comfortable around other dogs, but afterward she became reactive and barked at them regularly. We understand that boarding can be stressful for some dogs and that dog-to-dog interactions are not always predictable. However, we were disappointed that our concerns about the repeated mounting behavior did not appear to be adequately addressed. Based on our experience, we have decided to use an in-home pet sitter for future vacations. We hope this feedback helps the facility improve supervision and ensure that dogs who are repeatedly targeted by other dogs receive more intervention and support.

He quickly was able to identify that our dog wasn't aggressive, there was dynamics playing out in house between all dogs that created a level of tension. He provided us with tools to diffuse the house when we noticed signs that he identified that would lead to a scuffle. We saw no further aggressive behaviors from any of our dogs. One of dogs has never listened to any commands. One hour with Josh and she was trained on how to sit, lay down, and "place" with hand motions only! He has opened our eyes to the unending ways we can work with her. I can't thank him enough. Both dogs are now friendly with each other and we have had no further issues in our home. I highly recommend K9 Optima for anyone experiencing aggression issues. He is kind, compassionate, and truly does this to enrich the lives of the dogs he works with.

Josh is a genuinely kind person with a heart of gold, but based on our experience, I would not…read morerecommend him as a dog trainer. We paid over $6,000 for a one-month board-and-train program for our German Shepherd. One of the first things that concerned us was that he told us he had "his dogs" teaching our dog how to be a dog. We expected that, for the price, our dog would receive consistent, hands-on training from the trainer himself. Because the training took place over the Christmas holidays, it felt like our dog did not receive the level of attention and daily training we had anticipated. We also expected that, at the end of the program, we as the owners would receive several training sessions to learn how to maintain and reinforce the work at home. That never happened. When our dog came home, she was still reactive, continued chewing things as she had before, and overall showed little to no improvement. Josh gave us a spray collar (citronella or a similar scent) and instructed us to use it whenever she barked. I wasn't comfortable using it because it felt like it addressed the symptoms rather than the underlying behavior, so I chose not to use it. He also suggested that she was simply too active and that we should consider rehoming her if we couldn't handle her. That advice turned out to be completely wrong for our dog. Afterward, we worked with a local trainer for three months who focused on daily, balanced, hands-on training for both our dog and us--without spray collars or gimmicks. The transformation was remarkable. Her reactivity is gone, she learned how to behave appropriately, and we realized she wasn't "too active" at all. She was simply a family dog who needed consistent guidance and proper training. Looking back, I feel that the board-and-train program was not worth the money we paid. While Josh was always pleasant and well-intentioned, our experience was that the program did not deliver the training or results we were promised. Don't waste your money. Josh may be a great guy to rescue dogs, but in our experience he does not know how to do reactivity training or work alongside owners to change challenging behaviors.
