I came to Alex Auto Tag to get my out of state title and registration transferred. I called ahead to ask what documents were needed. Since I own my car, I was told I needed to bring my out of state title, proof of PA auto insurance, and driver's license. I also brought my out of state registration just in case, but they didn't need it. The process was fairly quick, I got done in about 20-30 minutes. Price was a little steep - I paid $208 in total, whereas when I moved from PA to NY previously, the title/registration transfer cost $202. Then again, I also opted to reuse my old PA plate and renewed the registration. I'm not sure if it would have been cheaper if I just got new plates. Parking was not an issue at all since there is free parking right outside the store. read more

Great service! Called and came in the same day to get a title transfer and registration processed. There was no wait on Fri around noon. They told me exactly what was needed (pa license, insurance card, vin photo), quickly verified my VIN (I just brought a printed photo, but you can also email pics to them), and sent the title request to my lien holder. They will contact me the day the title arrives so I can get my tags and plate. The price was steep ($255 for the title transfer, registration, and plate), but that's PA for you. Quick, easy and friendly enough for an out of state title transfer/tags. I had my paperwork ready (bill of sale, insurance, check to the PA commonwealth for sales tax), which helped a lot in making it go smoothly. I did not bring the vehicle but was able to take a picture of the VIN and send it by email. I did not receive a confirmation of receipt email, but I trust it was received. Office has a bit of a bail bonds feel to it, bullet proof glass kind of thing. - they could use a house plant or art work or something to lighten it up. $210 not including the pa sales tax paid separately, which honestly I'm not well informed enough to know if that's a good price. Seems a little high but I uh, did the poorly informed consumer thing and paid it without really looking at the charges. I probably should have. Don't be like me. read more

Super quick process. I called ahead to find out what exactly I needed to get my out of state car that was given as a gift transferred to me. This is a one stop shop that offers notary service, title, tag and registration service, and insurance sales. I can't speak for the insurance sales, but I can definitely say that they run service well for everything else. They were honest in working as a notary. Someone came in with a pre-signed form and asked Alex to notarize it, and he refused saying that he could not notarize a signature of someone who was not there, but would gladly wait for that person to come. As for me, I came in with all the forms and proofs they told me over the phone, paid the amount as posted on their wall, and walked out with a new license plate, registration sticker and a good feeling that my title would be mailed to me in 7 days. I even asked them for a screw driver to replace my out of state plates, and when they saw me struggle a bit (I currently have a cast on my hand), one of the staff came out and helped me replace the plates! Despite looking like a seedy check cashing store (they have bars on the windows and thick glass between you and the counter), everyone was friendly and helpful. All my stuff was done within 20 minutes. My car is now Pennsylvanian! read more

So here's my thought process: "This is Philadelphia, there's gotta be all kinds of tag places" I found Alex Auto Tag on S Broad and it seemed easy and approachable. The place is very small. I've seen pantries that are bigger than this place. It's not very posh inside but the owner (I'm guessing) greets you with a smile and extremely professional service. He did the registration completely on-line and like that my car was registered in PA. Boom. The paperwork was easy to fill out and it was all pretty simple. It's also located next to a Dunkin Donuts in case you're feeling like drinking substandard coffee. I was in the middle of moving from Philly to another county, and they helped me update my address on my license and also caught that with my new address, I would be paying 6% tax as opposed to 8% for Philadelphia. Saw a lot of good reviews, so came in to get some paperwork done for my car. Picked it up a few weeks ago, so had to get all the fees taken care of. Dropped in, staff seemed friendly and got the work done quickly. They charge 4% for a credit card, so I paid debit. In the end, paid sales tax, did a out of state title transfer, and registered the car. Total fees were about $90. They managed a $90 broke fee on top for about 10 minutes of work. Not sure how these businesses are regulated and determine their fees, but seems pretty steep for very little processing on their part. Glad it's done, but if I ever wanted to invest in a business with high profit margins, I think I found it. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about this place, both the owner and one of their other employees Zach were great. I'll admit I was a bit lost originally when trying to get tags for my new scooter. The DMV at arch was useless in giving me any sort of information, I had difficulty finding any other notary to notarize the title, and the whole process was a bit confusing. I wasted 2 days and several lunch breaks running around the city trying to get what I needed. I got ripped off by the dude Doug that works here. I disclosed very specific information regarding a form I needed sent out of state to take a hold off of my license. The insurance company he set me up with wasn't able to send out of state forms even though I told him the state and form I needed. He said the company he picked out would be able to send it. When I contacted Doug he lied and claims I never told him what state I needed the form for. I paid over $200 for the policy and now can't get my license renewed. Now I have to cancel my policy, lose all of that money and find a new company that can help me. He's a jerk, don't go there. read more

Having not known that penn dot requires you to send in insurance info when you switch companies , I had the unfortunate experience of getting my license plate taken away from a pa state trooper ... Needless to say it was a horrible experience . I went to Alex's to get a new license plate and he was more than helpful. He was able to speed up the process so I got a new plate that same day.
