Dr. Wiesenthal was recommended to me by someone in the medical field as empathetic and understanding.  I had high hopes that I was going in to see a doctor who would really listen and be able to help me.  Unfortunately, the disappointment that I felt was so profound that it has taken me nearly 8 months to wrap my head around it. Like some of the other reviews caution, you will spend a good amount of time in the waiting room.  I told myself that this was because Dr. Wiesenthal really takes her time with each patient.  I looked forward to my time with the attentive doctor. My time with the attentive doctor went like this: Me: Describes a symptom I am experiencing. Her: Hands me a business card referring me to another doctor. Me: Describes a symptom I am experiencing. Her: Hands me a business card referring me to another doctor Over. And over.   I left with 6 business cards, no discussion on what might be going on with me,  no clarification or insight into my symptoms,  disappointment, and a ton of questions.  One thing that Dr. Weisenthal did offer to me was a printout of the manifestation of one of my symptoms. But she never gave it to me. As I was checking out, she walked out of the back room and I said "Excuse me" in an effort to ask her about it. Her retort: "You'll have to schedule another appointment  of you want to ask me any other questions." As you would imagine, I have never felt more devalued, ignored, degraded, and looked down on.  If that is the sort of treatment that you're looking for in a physician, give Dr.  Wiesenthal a try.   If that's not what you're looking for, stay far, far away. read more

At first at I've had to wait for a month and a half to see for the first time Dr. Wiesenthal, we were changing doctor from another bad experience with someone else,I thought when I arrived to her practice, Dr. Wiesenthal and saw award for "most compassionate" This is it!! I found her, I found the right Doctor but unfortunately not. First time she run some tests as a general routine, the second time we went we waited long time in the room more like 45 minutes,( we got there on time for our appointment )and she showed up for just 15 minutes total, our appointment was at the same time for me and my husband, (as per our request), but in 15 minutes, just 15 minutes for two people with different questions and health concerns???, ( not enough time for either of us) she left us with the assistant for further questions. That same day I did a follow up tests results consult visit to not to waste time TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF SOMEBODY ON THE PHONE FOR MY NEXT VISIT, to my surprise the tests results took a month and a half to come in, ( very weird and too long for simple routine tests) and to my other surprise one of the assistants called me to give me the tests results of my husband and my self, the wording of this person lets say she is not a doctor to deliver news, was awful, we got really scared of what she told us, she said it very alarming and harsh, and when I got scared I ask to talk to Dr. Wiesenthal, but she said I've had to make an appointment for it, I asked her more questions about my husband and myself results and she said that Dr. Wiesenthal asked her to call us and give us the results,that's it !!! THAT'S IT???? and that she could not answer any other questions, apparently Dr. Wiesenthal was too busy to deliver such delicate news, needless to say Iwas saying ok i still have my follow up appointment with her on Friday, which I had to cancel because I had a back prodecure that same day, so I called them to let them know and reschedule, TO MY SURPRISE !! I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT RESCHEDULE ME AND HUBBY UNTIL I PAY MY OUTSTANDING BALANCE OF 220 USD EACH!!! I was whaaaaaat! My health insurance should covered that, so I called my health insurance and they've told me that the doctor wrote the wrong code word, that she only had to change a word in it and they will cover everything, since then and after 4 weeks I've have been trying to get a hold on the phone with any human at the office but answer machine is all I've got, my hubby went to the office personally, and the receptionist said that Dr Wiesenthal is in charge of the charges and money and that she will return our inquiry, STILL WAITING ... ALMOST 5 WEEKS AND COUNTING, WAITING FOR THE DOCTOR TO CONTACT ME. Of course, I've been billed for the total amount to my home but nobody including Dr. Wiesenthal seems to care tu return any of my multiple phone calls, also in the mean time I needed to see her for new concerning symptoms about my health, BUT APPARENTLY IF I DONT PAY WHICH I'HAVE BEEN TRYING, SEVERAL TIMES, SHE IS NEGLECTING ME AS A PATIENT. LAST TIME I'VE CHECK DOCTORS TAKE CARE OF PATIENTS FIRST NOT ABOUT MONEY FIRST... I f you need proper care, I suggest go to another doctor, I don't know who gave the "Most Compassionate award" to Dr. Wiesenthal, but for sure they should review their standards to extend such an AWARD, or at least talk to some patients before giving it away. Not a compassionate doctor. I showed up to my appointment to get anti-anxiety meds for panic attacks that arose after a cancer diagnosis. I had my 1 year old daughter with me (this was pre-Covid, not related to that). Was not informed ahead of time, but saw in the waiting room a sign that said no children allowed. So I waited and waited at the front desk, no one showed. I then got a call about an emergency at my older child's school. I left a note explaining and asking for a call back. I never got that, despite them knowing I have cancer and need anti-anxiety meds. Instead I got a bill for being a no-show. They might be right, but I find it completely heartless and poor practice. Of course doctors need to make money, but they're supposed to be compassionate providers that help us get well. Dr Wiesenthal was the opposite for me. read more

I am so grateful my boss recommended Dr. Wiesenthal to me for my primary care doctor. Since I turned 40, I just wanted to get a good baseline even though I've never had any major health issues. I feel great about taking care of my health--she had great recommendations for me. I am now recommending her to my friends and family, too. She is an excellent Internal Medicine primary doctor. Dr. Alexis is very through and thoughtful and I feel like she really listens to me. I admire that she is Mayo Clinic trained. Her office is calm and even though I don't love going to the doctor, I feel relaxed when I am there! I'm glad I found her. read more

I used to really like going to see Dr. Wiesenthal. When she was in practice with her father, things were great. Once she moved to her own practice a few years ago, however, things went down hill. If you need to see someone quickly, this isn't the Dr. for you. It can take a week to get in. On the other hand, she WILL do a short phone consult if it's a sinus infection or something like that. She's gotten to where she's chronically late, though. The last two times my husband has gone, he was supposed to be the first appointment of the day and he had to wait for her to get there and open the door. I just tried to make an appointment and got the phone tree and a message to leave times that I'd like to come in and they'd get back to me. This is kind of a regular thing as I think it is just her and one or two assistants in a busy office. I don't know. I just really like having someone answer the phone. read more

Dr. Wiesenthal, herself, is an excellent doc, but her office is greatly mismanaged. Her receptionist acts as if she is greatly inconvenienced when it comes time to make your next appointment or if you ask for copies of any part of your medical record (I.e., copies of your lab reports); in fact, she seems inconvenienced when you arrive for your appointment & you need to check in. It's also extremely difficult to get anyone to answer the phone. The receptionist just is not a people-person, so don't expect a friendly, helpful, easy relationship with her. Also, you hardly ever see the nurse - I don't know where she hides out. & nothing ever seems to come of talking to the nurse or receiving care from her. It doesn't seem as if the nurse & doc talk to each other at all. What's the use of that? The doc did see me right away when I was experiencing post-op chest pain & the doc (not the receptionist) arranged for me to be admitted to St. Luke's Hospital right away. Be aware, though, that Dr. Wiesenthal WILL NOT be your doc in-hospital - an In-Hospital Doctor Service takes over your care (& they don't know your medical history). I was worried the entire first day in-hospital because it seemed that I was admitted, I was put in a hospital room & IV started, but no doc came to see me or tests run. Just twiddling my thumbs all day & neglected while I have chest pain - this didn't seem like good medical care to me. The nurse said the doc does his rounds in the mid-morning & that he wouldn't see me until the next day. I also know he didn't review my chart that day or check to see how I was doing, as I had an excruciating migraine headache, too & wanted some medication for that, also. I had to call my cardiologist (Dr. Chris Kopecky - a personal friend of mine), who is on-staff there, to get any migraine meds. Of course, not only did HE review what was going on with me in the chart, but also called me & he saw me the 2nd & 3rd days to check on me & didn't even charge my insurance for those visits. HE didn't need to do that; he is just an excellent, caring doctor. & HE wanted a visit 2 weeks post-hospital. The in-hospital doc service even had the audacity to charge my insurance for an in-hospital visitation, even though he hadn't bothered with me at all that day!!! Dr. Wiesenthal didn't suggest I schedule a post-hospital appointment with her the day I was there, or even after she referred me to a neurologist one time for another problem. That neurologist didn't seem very good to me either. She didn't want to address all my neuro problems in an ongoing Dr..-Patient relationship, just wanted to address the initial problem Dr. Wiesenthal referred me to her for, even though I really needed a new neurologist, since mine had retired a few months before. You would think a doctor would be interested not only in your initial problem, but would want to make more money by addressing all your neuro problems in an ongoing Dr.-Patient relationship. I don't think Dr. Wiesenthal knows anything about the docs she refers you to, or she would refer you to a better caliber doctor. The fact that Dr. Wiesenthal doesn't seem interested in follow-up appointments seems highly irregular to me, as all my other docs always request post-op or post-hospital appointments to see how I'm doing afterwards. & For some of those docs, the hospital visit doesn't even seem to be related to their specialty, They just care. It just doesn't seem as if Dr. Wiesenthal cares about YOU very much at all. They just want a regulated, scheduled every 6 months appointment relationship with you; not any drama. Also, SHE offered to see me one day when I showed up for an appointment during what was apparently an office vacation, though she was in-office that day. She said her receptionist had cancelled all appointments by phone & I told her I never received such a call. One month later I get a letter stating she was terminating our Dr.-Patient relationship after 30 days from the date of the letter & that I needed to find a new primary doctor - no explanation as to why, & no suggestions as to another doc she might refer me to. I felt very lost, abandoned & neglected by that letter, much less upset & very disappointed overall with Dr. Wiesenthal & her office. I had read reviews on another site saying her office did this after 1 missed appointment (even though some people had been seeing her for years & had actually canceled their appointments well in advance & had already scheduled another appointment with the doc). Her office screwed up & I get terminated? Apparently her office really doesn't care about you, the patient - they just care about not inconveniencing their daily office routine! Very disappointed with this Dr.-Patient relationship overall! I have never experienced this kind of neglectful doctor care before, ever & when I tell my other docs about this, they are very surprised by her office practices & say they won't refer patients to her anymore. Dr. Wiesenthal is a very caring doctor, she is a good listener. She does a very thorough exam and makes sure you have all test and prescriptions you need. She returned my call immediately on her day off. I had left a message and it was less than 30 minutes before I received a call from her, not her receptionist, but her!! I am glad she is in a good location near the medical center where most of my other doctors are. read more

I was a little uncertain about going to see Dr. Wiesenthal at first. Her office is very busy and when I called to make an appointment, it was clear that the person I spoke with was in a hurry. She almost hung up on me before I could tell her why I wanted the appointment. Also, it's a bit difficult to navigate the Med Center (Dr. Wiesenthal's office is in Plaza II). Despite this, I think I've found my doctor. I would advise anyone to get into Dr. Wiesenthal's practice while she's still getting established. She actually read the list of supplements I take and discussed why I take them and whether they are medically necessary. I've never had a doctor even glance at the paperwork I filled out, let alone talk about it with me. She gave me some pragmatic advice and was very easy to talk to. My friend that recommended Dr. Wiesenthal is in a very different state of health than I am, but also had a great experience and has been very happy with her care. Be forewarned, it can be challenging to get ahold of the nurse (I wanted to discuss my test results), but when you do, she is wonderful, very kind and will take the time to explain what everything means. read more

I have never had such a negative experience with a doctor in my life. It is incredibly difficult to make an appointment for ANYTHING unless you are willing to wait a week to two weeks out (God forbid you have an emergency and need to see someone same day). But hey! Don't worry they'll tell you go to an Urgent Care because you are just THAT special to them. I have no idea how this woman has been rated "Most Compassionate" yet can't even return a patient's phone call in a timely manner for an over the phone assessment (yes, if she is busy she'll see you over the phone - but for a hefty price). Don't waste your time seeing this woman. She doesn't give a crap about you or your medical problems. She merely wants to fill up her schedule every day. read more

She's been my doc for almost ten years. So glad to have her. I get an annual lab check with my work, but I still go see her a couple times a year to really see what is going on with my health and stay on top it. She's gotten me on target, helped me get my thyroid and sugars under control, and I'm back to what I was weighing before I got married :) read more

Dr. Wiesenthal is the best doctor I have ever had. I get very nervous and uneasy going to any kind of medical facility, but my visits with Dr. Wiesenthal are great. She has the best bedside manner and genuinely seems to care about each patient (my husband sees her too). I have seen other reviews complaining of having a long wait at her office. Although I've never had to wait long, I can see that she may get behind as she always takes the time to listen to any of my concerns and answer any questions I have. I never feel rushed or leave feeling confused. She always thoroughly reviews any previous labwork/tests before I come in and goes over them with me, explaining everything in a way I can understand. I've personally never experienced any issues with the office staff either. read more

I became a patient of Dr. Alexis Wiesenthal appx. three years ago and count myself as very fortunate to have selected her as my primary physician. She has always impressed me with her knowledge, her thoroughness, and her compassion. I currently see several specialists for a variety of medical conditions, but since I have such implicit trust in Dr. Wiesenthal's judgment, I try, when possible to discuss treatment plans with her before I make any major decisions. CARING is very important in a physician and Dr. Wiesenthal certainly fills that bill. She takes time to listen to all of your concerns and explains everything to you. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Alexis Wiesenthal to anyone in need of an internist. read more

I had my annual physical with Dr. Alexis Wiesenthal today. I absolutely love her. We went through everything and by the time I left her office I was feeling pretty darn great. She makes me want to take care of myself and as I'm getting older, I understand how important it is that I do take care of myself. She has a great sense of humor and it doesn't take much for me to get her to laugh. Her nursing and reception staff are awesome and totally on the ball. read more

Well, I had difficulty reaching the office in the first place. Then on another day, I talked with someone who sounded like they were in a quiet office somewhere. That person said she would send some forms for new patients. The forms never arrived. Later, my problem resolved, and I called and cancelled the reservation. When I called again several months later, they said they were still accepting new patients, but when I gave my name, they told me the doctor has a policy that she never accepts a new patient who has previously cancelled. That was news to me. I told them, that I had been told before my previous appointment that forms would be sent. They said they never send out forms. I could not help but get angry about all of this. But c'est la vie. I now think I would be better off not seeing this doctor anyway. read more

She must think very highly of herself. In a year, it will probably be a lot easier to get into her office. One of the worst doctors I have ever seen. No one ever answers the phone in the office and when you do finally get an appointment scheduled and see her she can't do the simplest stuff and ends up writing you a referral to other specialists. I went in for a follow-up for my pneumonia, waited an hour and a half after my appointment time to see her only to have her send me straight to the hospital without even evaluating me. She didn't even know how to read my x-rays and now she's billing me for an appointment where she didn't even treat me! Most incompetent, uncaring doctor! they take united health care but when they saw my medicare card they denied me. though my united health care they can take, they denied me as new patient when i arrived for my appointment. wouldn't give me a reason why, i kept asking if they take united health care (they said yes over the phone to make new patient apt) discrimination at its best. they didn't have to take my medicare but denied me because i am a medicare card holder regardless of my primary (very very good plan) united health care plan. she just kept saying sorry when i was asking why, i kept asking "you take united health care right?" she said she that it was her practice and that she has to deny me. i waited a month and a half for the anointment, i could have been waiting to see another doctor that would actually see me, i am very sick and trying to get better. my previous internal med dr retired and i needed a new one. this was a referral. read more
