Last year was the first year for this event, and it had me at "hello. " Free movies on the sand, listening to the sound of the surf, watching the sun set over LA Harbor. What more could you want? Okay, free popcorn would be nice. YOU GOT IT! They have a little hut where you can get free popcorn and, of course, they also provide other snacks at a slightly inflated price. Candy. Hotdogs. Soft drinks. The movies are of the older variety. But since this is my second year with this event, I'm going to do a slight compare and contrast for you all (remember those essays from school?). Last year the stand-outs were Marry Poppins and Indiana Jones. This year is more like the "real" classics: West Side Story, Singin' in the Rain, Casablanca, North by Northwest, and the Wizard of Oz. And even some campy cult fav's like Plan 9 from Outer Space. Last year was more homegrown and felt like Long Beach's best kept secret. This year? Charter Cable has taken over and turned it into a giant commericial. They hand out "gifts" and flash their name big on the screen. The whole bit. But, hey, it still feels like a community event. People were applauding after the dance numbers in Singin' in the Rain. Now, where else can you get that for the price of admission?? So pack your picnic basket and blankets (it gets cold on that beach) and head down to the Shore for a free movie on Tuesday night! read more

This review is for the "Moonlight movies on the beach", which occur every Tuesday in the summer from June-August. Movies start at approximately 8pm or when the sun fully sets. Most of the movies are classics and family friendly. The movie is free and parking is free. However, the parking lot and street parking surrounding this area gets filled quickly. I got here at approximately 7:20pm and the entire parking lot was filled, it took forever to find parking that was 0.5+ miles away. One of my friends went to find a spot for us at the beach at around this time, and it was already so crowded. It was hard to see the movie comfortably while sitting on the floor with a mat because the majority of people around us had beach/camping chairs and were taller than us. Also, the speakers were not strong. It was hard to hear the movie if you were far away, plus there were lots of children being chatty nearby. Due to this we left the movie early. I'm not sure if it was extra crowded because of the certain movie or throughout the years this event has gotten more popular. I've attended movies on the beach a few years ago and this was never a problem. So I would suggest coming extremely early to grab a parking spot and to save a good section on the beach near the screen. Also, it gets really cold at night with the ocean breeze so I suggest bringing a sweater and a blanket to be comfortable! read more

Daytime & more by night, a place for the disenfranchised, who lack the candor of respecting "Sorry, I have no change." Toss in crackheads, drug dealers & gangs to congregate, and I'd hold my pee and use another public restroom! If you are able to get past that, based on my primarily relevant to a customer experience, you will be okay. However, most of the tourists, families & especially children were expressing disdain for the above, and the owner said: "I used to go out the back door and tell them to leave, they threatened my life or, pointed to a place a weapon would be carried." "I call police, they arrest some of them, chase them away, but they come back." The advantages outweigh the pitfalls, and the offerings are a plenty-come in a large group, bring tasers & look mean & intimidating and you should be able to enjoy, leave and arrive home safely. So, dirty water, dirty beach, people smoking and telling you to "F-OFF" when you say something to them, smelly air from the port, elements of ilk all make for the perfect experience. I love their free Movies on the Beach! It's a great way to spend a summer evening night, enjoying a fun movie and a picnic under the stars with your nearest and dearest. So far I've seen Jaws and Casablanca, but I'm looking to check out more movies in the future. Getting there early is recommended to score the best spots in front of the screen and in the parking lot (parking is free in the Granada Beach parking lot and on the street). My friends and I had to misfortune of getting there kind of late and we ended up sitting in the back, which would've been OK had it not been for the people who are there just to socialize and not actually watch the movie. A couple of very annoying groups of talkers, ugh. Pretty good picture and sound quality considering you're outdoors--I highly recommend this event! read more

This review is also for Movies On The Beach: It's TOTALLY FREE and they play old movies! Last night, I watched Brewsters Millions with Richard Pryor. Great movie! People bring their dogs, kids, weed, and wine here. Although, I dont think you can actually bring alcohol but ppl still do. MAKE SURE TO WEAR WARM CLOTHES. I understand its summer and its hot n all. BUT, at night next to the water it's FREEZING! Also, when the movie is over, you're wet from all the mist. This is a great spot if you want a quick snack during your day at the beach! They either take cash or venmo for payment which is amazing! The prices are reason too. I paid $6 for an amazing fried shrimp quesadilla which I would strongly recommend and definitely come back for. I love that they have FREE movies on the beach during the summer. These days, it's hard to find things to do for free! Parking is always free at their events as well. Their website shows their movie listings and which locations they will be screened at. My favorite is Marina Green Park because it's on the grass. They do have vendors as well that sell kettle corn and the snack bar is open, but feel free to bring your own food and have a picnic with your friends! Sometimes it sucks when some other visitors ruin your movie going experience.. like when they set up a whole picnic table loaded with lots of junk right in front of you and so you can't see the movie because people keep getting up to go to their picnic table. Yes, this is a free event, but let's all just try to be mindful of each other still, what do you think? Try and get to their screenings early so you can be close enough that you won't have to endure an awful experience like that one. :( read more

My favorite way to spend the summer in Belmont Shore is on a weeknight evening watching a "Moonlight movie" at the beach under the stars with Alfredo's Beach Club! It's much more fun to enjoy the movie with popcorn, candy, or any snacks you bring along. Basically just read what Tree S. said - Tree summed it up nicely. FREE admission? FREE popcorn? Decent movies?? Awesome! You can bring your own ice chest, so go ahead and do that. Bring a blanket and a chair, too. Everybody else had chairs and I was stuck sitting on the sand like a doofus tonight, made it kind of hard to see above everyone's heads. I love Alfredo's! They have shacks up and down the beach providing summer fun for everyone, from lemonade, free movies, festivals and beach parties! Their mission is to make sure we experience beach life the way it should be! They also rent out bikes and kayaks. They haven't forgotten a thing! Alfredo's Beach Club offers a lot to do and so many options for entertainment in Long Beach. I have been to many of the activities hosted by Alfredo's and I always have a great time. I recently attended the Imua Festival and wow what a day! I had some great Hawaiian food, watched some amazing dancers, and chatted with so many wonderful locals...I am really grateful that Alfredo's puts these events on so I can enjoy them. I have also attended a wedding that was hosted by Alfredo's and it was so beautiful! The location and food just made it feel like we were in Hawaii, no joke! I think what Alfredo provides to the community with the movies and shacks is wonderful, but my experience was horrific. Spoke with him in Feb regarding a wedding reception at the Kayak Club and explained what we wanted and what we could afford. He was very helpful and said he could accommodate us. The bride and her sister went to the site for a walk through and to discuss further the details and get a written estimate. He said he could do it way under our budget and we all agreed on food, decor, wedding on the beach and we were going to rent the VIP bathrooms. Continued to contact him for 1.5 months with no response and finally 3 weeks before the wedding I got him on the phone only to find he had upped our per head to $100 per person, from $35-50 and it would cost me additional $400 for bathrooms. That was way over our budget. There was a few days of negotiation and it ended up we had to change the menu, to minimize the cost and he would not give us a price per items so we knew what we were getting and what we needed to eliminate. Just "tell me what you want to spend and I will make it happen". My daughter wanted a family luau so it was imperative we have a whole pig and in the beginning Alfredo said he and a friend of his were going to cook the night before. Up until 6 days before the wedding we did not know this was not included. He then called us at 1:45 in the afternoon told us the pig was an additional $400 and we had 15 minutes to decide. I tired to call him and he answered but hung up on me, then I continued to call and was forwarded to voicemail. Finally he called my daughter the bride back and said I will get the pig and worry about the money later. How confident would you be by these actions? We finally decided we could not be comfortable that anything would be right and acceptable on the wedding day and cancelled with him 3 days before the big day. We were treated as kings and queens at the new venue, and they put everything on the table without hesitation. It turned out to be just beautiful and I am not sorry we had to move. My daughter and her beau were happy and beautiful. Bad experience, stress and hurt was made better thanks to the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club and manager Kelly. read more

Alfredo's was my wedding venue, and I couldn't have asked for anything better. They have a few locations to choose from, and we selected the one by the Granada Boat Launch and the dog beach. This was perfect for us because we could have our ceremony and reception all in one place, with our toes in the sand the entire time, and we were able to bring our dogs and make them a part of our big day. Jesel was so easy to work with. The cost was a simple per person pricing plan and included all food, drinks and most of the rentals. We did splurge and upgrade in a few areas, which I highly recommend (added a tent with clear side walls since it gets windy there sometimes, and ordered a trailer with 2 additional restrooms so we didn't have to use the general beach bathrooms). Jesel answered all my questions ahead of time, so I had no concerns going into the event. She even handled a few curveballs last minute (the city double booked the beach that day for a race in the morning - oh no!) but I had full confidence in her to handle everything. I also paid extra to have a wedding coordinator, Jacqueline Azpeitia, who also works for Alfredo's, and I highly recommend her as well. She was organized, supportive and she got things done without being pushy. It was hard for me to picture what the wedding would actually look like since I didn't find any pictures of anyone doing it before me, but everything was beautiful. Free Movies on the beach!!! Gratis! Free movie, free parking, sand, beach, sunset...sold! I have been attending movies by the beach set up by Alfredo's Beach Club the past 3 years. These events are something I look forward to every summer. Check the website for movie schedules. There are three locations but I am partial to the Granada beach location (Tuesday nights). The movies start around 8 o'clock. I recommend getting there around 7:00-7:30 to get good seats. People use to mostly take blankets, but now the majority of people have small beach chairs, so if you want to lay on the blanket, get there earlier to assure no beach chairs are blocking your view I love this summer event. A wonderful way to spend a summer night, great for dates, groups and families. *Take a blanket and a sweater it gets cool at night *Take snacks or take-out dinner to enjoy while you wait for the movie *The Granada location has free parking (don't remember about the others) *Don't forget to dispose of your trash properly! *The most popular movie is always Jaws and gets full quickly, get there extra early! read more

This review is on the beach club for parties. Our company had our yearly picnic here. Presentation, seating, music and volleyball courts were good. The food was ok, not that much taste to the burgers and hot dogs. This area was also shared with the dogs since this side is the dog beach. So there were some surprise in the sand here and there. They state on their ad that they have kayaks and other water sport activities and kid friendly waters. Well no kayaks in sight. The other water sports were people on their own personal sea-doos. Kid friendly water must mean the Pacific ocean. The clubs restrooms were the public facilities everyone use on the beach. No privacy at all. i don not recommend Alfredo's Beach Club, at least if you book the one on Ocean and Granada. read more

I wanted to hold my wedding here, I contacted the event manager and he replied to me the next day, then...nothing. I was really keen to hold my wedding there, so I became persistant, calling and emailing. He emailed me and acted like that was the venue I had chosen and so now we could do things on his time (ie. a week or 2 later--my wedding is in 2 months) On a friday I tried to arrange to get together with him that weekend to view the location and venue. He said " In the beginning of next week we can get together and I'll let you in. I'll call you sometime in the beginning of the week". Saturday my fiance and I looked at the venue as we drove by. we weren't too impressed, so it's probably a good thing that Fred hasn't called us back--a week later. read more

I figured I'd back up the part of Debra's review that I also experienced. I spoke with Fred regarding my wedding after the city of Long Beach recommended him for a park or beach wedding. He was friendly enough in our initial phone call, asked my budget, then asked me to send him an email. I waited several weeks with no response. I called him, and he was rude and defensive. He insisted that he would have responded if I had sent him an e-mail. I sent him another, and heard back a little quicker this time. However, months passed before I heard anything else. Then Fred's son contacted me out of the blue to ask if I still wanted to meet. He tried to follow up several times, giving me some excuse about a family emergency (one that lasted several months?!) I'm just glad that I didn't trust my wedding to these people. read more

Unfortunate we have had similar treatment as most with TRYING to plan an event with this company. We were referred by the City. I am so grateful I have had a chance to read these reviews and heed the WARNING! Our experience, we called then we were asked to email for a paper trail. We did and were contacted to set up a time. We waited three days, we emailed again and got nothing, so we called back, as we are eager to get the ball rolling. We were told we would be receiving a response soon. We were called by the office, we called back a few minutes later and what do you know the person we need to speak with is out of the office :/ So then we finally get a call back and set up a time to meet. And then find out the next day, via text, that that person has a family appointment for that day and needs to reschedule. I was VERY off put by the running around and chasing we had to do and decided to look up reviews and WOW they are identical to what we are experiencing. It is very strange. Just glad we knew before we gave these guys any money, all we are out is a just a weeks worth of planning time. And we are still waiting for a response to set up a new appointment to meet. Unprofessional and surprised the CITY is recommending them as a wedding venue. read more

We have been coming to Movies on the Beach for the last few years. My kiddos love it, great atmosphere. Free movies, and the option to buy from snack carts popcorn pizza and some local food trucks. And all on the beach what is better than that? The only thing that sucks for us is the parking get there early or you will be parking very far away, with a long walk. Alfredo's Kayak Kafe was the perfect venue for a surprise luau that I organized for my husband's birthday on the weekend of the 4th of July holiday! It allowed me to bring Hawaii to Long Beach for my husband and our guests! Fred and his daughter, Jesse, were very accommodating and responsive to all of my requests. They made the event planning easy and stress-free as they were both very helpful. They had many excellent suggestions and practically took care of everything for me! On the night of the party, Jesse was very efficient and ran the event smoothly and effectively. All of our guests were very impressed with the venue and the service! We had our wedding recently at Alfredo's Beach Club at their Belmont Shore - Granada Launch Ramp location. It was absolutely beautiful and perfect. They were so flexible and accommodating to whatever we wanted to do. They set up the ceremony and the reception are beautifully. We had pretty white lights strung between the palm trees and tiki torches for lighting. The food was amazing as was the Hawaiian entertainment that Jesel recommended. Every guest said it was the best wedding they've ever been to! We couldn't have been happier! read more

Came here because me and dad wanted to kayaki....one word...UNPROFESIONAL...girl at counter was wearing shirt cur so low on sides i can see her bra....video says to look for staff in orange hats or shirts....not very helpful....looks like they asked people off the street if they wanted a job for the day....dont get me started on rhe kitchen, closes mid day on a week day...post a sign indicating your kitchen is closed....they got the one star because the kayaki experience was just ok read more

I decided to walk to the queen Mary today , instead of riding my bike. It's called a walk about . Good for ones soul. Not training , not rushing, but watching life and enjoying what's around you. I had wanted to stop at Alfredo's many times but had always been in a hurry. I finally made the time today. Sometimes the simple things really are the best. It is circumstance and perspective. You don't have to dress up or worry about valet parking here. If you are in the sand or on the trail you are there . I was extremely thirsty on this nearly last day of August. I could see Alfredo's in the horizon. I was licking my chops. Lemonade, diet coke and a full bottle of water. In addition a toasted cheese sandwich. I thought the guy working there said did I want rice with my order, I thought , how novel. Instead I got fries no biggie , I could use the carbs and fat for the return trip. Cute place, fun place, colorful. Bikes, beach stuff, carousel type gizmo for rent. After I paid and was getting ready to head back to Seal , some loser slimmed up to me and said he wanted to use my iPhone and that he was from Tucson ( whatever) me thinks not..I trotted away. read more
