A colleague and I came here upon a recommendation for lunch after observing the setting of two gas compression units northwest of town. The appearance is what I hoped for, a hometown cafe! The special recommended by the waitress was the Mexican style chicken fried steak with R B. The steak ha chopped Hatch chilies and cheese instead of cream gravy. We ordered unsweetened tea, as we were parched. Our order arrived in a reasonable time, served with a smile, and hot. Considering Chad and I only commented on how delicious our meal was, and we stopped talking about anything else, the food had to be good. We will definitely be back to this establishment!! read more

I will never spend a penny here again and will make sure anyone I come in contact with doesn't either. I placed a TOGO order to feed an oilfield location I was working on and they added an outrageous $58 tip just for preparing our plates. This is abuse and taking advantage of the very thing that allows you to be in business. We had read several positive reviews of this little place and decided to give it a try as we were going through. We started out with complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa had just a bit of kick to it. We were disappointed that they were out of chicken fried steak. The Mexican version of this classic had been recommended in many reviews. Instead, we ordered a chicken fajita plate to share and some ala carte enchiladas and a taco. My cheese enchilada was ok, but seemed a little skimpy on the cheese. The green sauce wasn't the most flavorful either. My husband really enjoyed his beef taco and the chicken enchilada with red sauce though. The fajitas were terrific. The chicken was tender and full of flavor. The pepper and onion strips were cooked just right with a tiny bit of crunch. It came with a scoop of guacamole, rice, beans, sour cream, some cut up pepper pieces that we assumed were jalapenos, and two tortillas. Our server was very apologetic about the chicken fried steak and made some other recommendations for us. I'd love to go back some day and try that steak! read more

Passing through and was lucky to meet up for lunch with my nephew. I'm big on chips and salsa and Alfredo's did not disappoint. We ate 4 bowls of it. Yum. They had Dr Pepper which was an added bonus. Living in CA Dr Pepper is not always on the menu. Thank you Alfredo's and thank you TX for my DP. I had a cheese enchilada and taco combo. My mouth and tummy were very happy with this selection. My husband had beef tips with peppers, rice and beans. He said it was very good. My nephew had a steak quesadilla with rice and beans. Also a hit. The service was also great. When Chuy's in Van Horn did not open right at 11/a as advertised and we were on our way back to Texas from Phoenix after attending the Fiesta Bowl watching TCU we asked google who had the best Mexican food in the area was. Alfredo's popped up! We hit the road 57 miles to Pecos, TX. Small, quaint, off the beaten path little restaurant, with the sweetest waitress ever ! SALLY! She served us quickly with a big smile and brought over chips and salsa and she made a complimentary bowl of chili con queso with guacamole. It was so good! Enchiladas, tostado, rice beans, tacos were so good. The service was impeccable and the refill of coffee and tea were spot on. She found out we had a 7 hour drive ahead of us and she fixed us up with chips, and salsa for the road. The cook came over and asked if all was okay! Well be aware that there are not many options in town. I expected more ... The place is very dirty. The floor is vey old and is all broken plus dirty. Part of the ceiling paint is falling down and it is on top of the tables. Avoid using the bathrooms very dirty too. I washed my hands and waited till I got back to my hotel room. The food is ok. Cheeseburger was good. Beef fajitas was good. Soft shell tacos were greasy and Had no taste. It's expensive too! This city is dirty and expensive everywhere! Keep going! read more

Alfredo's doesn't look like much, but it is a good spot for some local Tex-Mex. Their chips & salsa is delicious--pretty spicy salsa too! I ordered the fajita plate, and it was very good. The chips and salsa are good. I ordered the number 3 platter. Everything was just meh, with not a lot of flavor. Hi t was only 5 hours ago, and I can't really remember what was on the platter. Service was lacking, I was sat, I ordered, and I had to ask for my check. The place itself is dirty and in disrepair. Came here for lunch. It was crowded. The food was good. It is busy with families and oilfield workers. Team is friendly and knows the regulars here. It is an old drive in converted. Parking is limited with all the company trucks. You will have to wait at the lunch crowd but it will hot and good food. Tea needs bottled water, Pecos city water is much to be desired, the waitress team works hard please leave these girls a tip. It is not their fault the crowds over sized here. read more

First off we had a group of 10 people very loud 10 people, in a restaurant full of other very loud people, we sit down and 5 min after we sit down the guys were laughing about something and a waitress comes over to us claps her hands really loud and says hello y'all need to be quiet we just had a table leave because y'all were to loud! . Everyone at the table was so shocked that she did that we didn't know what to say the whole restaurant was loud it wasn't just our table. We will not go back there again. Second off Chips were hard, my cheese enchiladas came out all wrong, I asked for sour cream sauce on them instead of the green sauce they put on them she brings out my plate with cheese sprinkled on them and packets of sour cream . Yeeeeeehaw! I'm in the town where The First Rodeo took place! Good ole Pecos, Texas. I had no choice but to stay the night in this town, all the other hotels were completely booked for some reason. Rodeo conference? Oil riggers conference? Massive sausage fest gathering? The entire town was dudes. I saw three females and 97 dudes the whole time I was there. And I was only there for a total of about 10 hours. It's like, you walk in and all the heads turn because they can smell a female coming. Wow, this just got sexual fast. So Mexican food. It was pretty gosh darn good. Not amazing, but solid. I had the beef taquitos. They came with a small undressed green salad, rice, beans topped with cheese and guacamole. It also came with a bag of chips and salsa. This was all about $9. I'm glad I took my food back to the hotel because I could feel holes being drilled into me from all the dudes in the room. I visited this place based on the other reviews I'd seen, and I agree overall that it's a good stop if you've waked from your reverie to find yourself in Pecos. Right as I walked in, the waitress complimented me on my car (for whatever reason), and she remained nice and attentive from there. The chips, taco, beans, rice, and guacamole were fine. The salsa served with the chips was on the spicier side (a good thing), and so was the chile relleno. The cheese inside the latter tasted a little...rich? I don't know, maybe it was overprocessed or something, or maybe I don't know what I'm getting into with my rellenos. Something was different (but not necessarily bad) about the red sauce on my enchilada. I'm guessing that it was just mostly tomato, since it didn't have that "con carne" savor you get used to when dining in Central Texas. It threw me for a minor loop, but it managed to get off the plate all the same. Final thoughts: I'd probably give this place a three in a major metro area, but the experience was pleasant and I imagine harder to come by around these parts. At the suggestion of a local wal mart cashier, the wife and I headed to Alfredo's which was packed with locals at about noonish. This is an amazing spot for people watching if your view of the world is skewed by big city livin, since here you have a good cross section of non coastal big cties. The first thing that struck me about the menu is the price. Everything is pretty darn cheap, from the beers to the tacos. The next thing you notice is hey, this is mexican food, not tex-mex!!!! This was great for me since I'm starting to get sick of everything being topped with cheese. We ordered a couple items off the specials menu and were not disappointed. I had a thin steak topped with mild green chiles and served with guac, the wife had something similar except it was chopped and spicier. Both were served with corn tortillas and hit the spot As for ambiance, the walls are covered with work from local artists at abt the $150 range so you can pick up something with a story behind it if you're out here. Eaten here 20 times in the last six months as I'm working here for year. I've tried many dishes and I'd say you will probably clean your plate. The Tampiquena steak is good, maybe the best item on the menu. Now the glowing report has to screetch to a halt. Waitresses, because they are humping it, are routinely too busy to be even cordial. They take your order, disappear, sling it at you and maybe make one call back to refill ice tea, but usually they have to be flagged down Alfredo's is arguably among the best 2-3 Mexican food restaurants in Pecos, but that is only saying so much. They all are pretty much the same -- no restaurant stands out head and shoulders above the rest. They are all adequate to good. I'm giving this five stars not because I've lowered my standards because it's Pecos, TX. This place legitimately deserves five stars for the type of restaurant it is. Pecos is a tiny beat up town but this little Mexican American diner is great. Now, you can't walk in there and assume it's some fancy place but the food is terrific and I'm critical of Mexican food because I love it. The tortilla chips are made in house as well as the salsa and it's probably the best salsa I've ever had. Just a perfect blend of spices! Also they make a good guacamole. I had a sort of sampler platter and just about everything was absolutely delicious. The wait staff was also very nice. Our server was very attentive for the duration of our stay.
