I'm sure the food is just fine but I wouldn't know since NO ONE came to take our order! Got to Pecos on Friday evening probably around 5:30pm to get some grub before getting back on the road. Four adults and one small child. We were seated within a minute or so, provided with waters all around and a bowl of chips and salsa. Then we sat. 40 minutes went by, my husband left two bucks on the table and we left. I'm in town for work, thought I'd try this spot out. I figured Chile Rellenos why not right? Any where and everywhere it's just cheese and chile inside, maybe ground beef. But Noooooo not this place, they had some kind of filler meat that tasted horrible, words can't describe Just say NO. And what ever sauce they use to smother it in (the gravy) not good, the batter(tolerable)but no. I was hungry so I cut it open and only ate the chiles and scraped the cheese off the top of the batter, it was dissected like an open body when I was done with it. The waitress didn't even ask if I liked the food or not after seeing a full plate. I paid, tipped(cause we all hustle for our money) and left. I have to say I really wasn't sure what to expect based on the reviews here but glad we came. We both got the breakfast chiliquiles mine with red sauce and hers with green. Both plates had loads of tortillas and covered with sauce with cheese over that. Both sauces had great flavor with the red being a bit spicer. The beans with them were ok but I've had better. I got mine with sunnyside up eggs and hers with over easy. Both our eggs were cooked good although they could have used a bit of salt and pepper while cooking. Service was crummy. Waitress was not attentive, and we didn't go at lunch hour. Music was loud Mexican rap and I couldn't talk to my husband who was sitting across the table without yelling. My husband and I ate a late lunch here at 1:30 on a Friday. There were 6 people inside and we waited over an hour for our food! Our tea was never refilled and almost every table in the place was dirty. We enjoyed a good Mexican lunch at the Old Mill while passing through town. The restaurant doesn't look like much on the outside. The interior was a bit worn but brightly decorated, offering both tables and booths. The menu must have 2-3 dozen different kindS of burritos. I ordered the Hector. The burrito is not served rolled up like you see in most places, but open-faced on a flour tortilla. Mine was very good and full of flavor. A decent bbq join in Pecos, TX? Old Mill comes pretty close. Don't let they fact the bring you chips and salsa fool you, they have good bbq. Fridays they have all you can eat ribs, large fall of the bone ribs. They have no sauce on them, you can sauce them as much as your heart desires. Came here because our first choice (Asian Kitchen) around the corner was closed. I guess I can't say I was disappointed, how can I be if I wasn't expecting much? Let me say first off that we were seated quickly on a Thursday evening around 7 PM, so that's a bonus. The waitress was attentive and brought our meal out in a timely manner, so that's good too. Where the fail occurred was with the food. I had the cod fish-n-chips which came with sides of beans, Texas toast, hush puppies, and french fries. I didn't try the beans or toast because with the fries and hush puppies it was just too much. The fries were mushy and obviously straight out of a bag from the freezer. Same with the cod. No ketchup for the fries, the tartar sauce for the fish came in a single serving plastic cup, and the hush puppies were over cooked, nearly burned. Last but not least, we waited for the bill for about 15 minutes. When we finally asked for the check, the waitress told us to pay up front, without a check, when ever we were ready. I think it was pretty apparent when we walked in that we were't locals. A heads up to that would have been nice. Just sayin'. read more

I first walked in the door of Old Mill in August 2010 with three other crew members, all professionals from large Texas cities. Over several weeks we tried a number of entrees and were generally positive about their taste. In October we were served what was probably the worst BBQ I've ever seen on a plate -- 50 % fat and gristle. Terrible. Later a crew member went back and was likewise disappointed. We crossed Old Mill off our list. I've been back since the above mentioned fiasco, and the food was good. Good, not GREAT! UPDATE: July 18, 2014. I've moved but I understand from a friend that Old Mill has been remodeled recently and is improved. But I can't comment on any changes ostensibly made. read more

It looked good but burger was past well done and burnt cheap fries were hard. I've been eating here since the boom kicked off about 7 years ago. I remember the old crowded restaurant with the dividing walls and columns in it. Glad to say they've spend some time and money to fix up the interior of the place, but the food is just as good as it's always been! Love the Father Fabian (brisket tacos) and the fajitas. But the real secret is their chile relleno. I'm not sure what magic in in their Mexican nougat, but it's incredible. Can't recommend those highly enough, and be prepared for a LOT of food. The BBQ is better other places, but I've gone out of my way to have the Mexican food here. Hamburgers and other diner typical fare is excellent as well. read more

FAST, FRIENDLY, and DELICIOUS!!!...I'm a first timer here and had the smothered hamburger steak with baked potato and beans. The potato comes with butter and cheese on it. The sweet tea was very sweet the way I like it but you may want to mix half and half if you don't have a big ol' sweet tooth. It was between lunch and dinner so not too crowded. Only issue might be parking, so may have to walk a bit when they get busy...But believe me you will NEED a walk after the free GIANT chips and salsa, house salad, and rolls! read more

I had a BBQ Plate of brisket and it was greasy and had a lot of fat. Slices of brisket were thick not thin like a lot of places. I have made better potato salad at home, a lot of mustard in theirs. The beans were good, but that was the best part of the meal. Don't think I will return. read more

Myself and 3 co-workers from Louisiana were not impressed by this restaurant. Seated quickly and the food came quickly. This is the positives. Here are the negatives. Waitress was not pleasant and was in a hurry to leave the table and willing to share any information about the food. I and another coworker ordered the chicken fried steak. Prior to ordering I asked if they were hand breaded or if they were frozen. She said that they were hand made. This is not correct. Definetly frozen. Home fries are crinkle cut fries and nothing about them are home. Odered a water with lemon and 3 lemonades and we received 3 lemonades and an unsweet tea. Sent the tea back and brought us water without lemon. And finally we ordered side salad with our meals and received them after our meals were brought out and no salad dressing. Horrible service. They close at 8pm so get there fast and It's BYOB. Don't be fooled by the outside because the inside is very nice. Waitstaff was friendly which is rare for Pecos. The combination BBQ plate was good and I also had the St. Louis style rib plate Special (Friday night only). Plenty of flatscreen TVs. The AC was cool and the noise level was bearable. The only thing I would ask them to change is to butter the Texas Toast more because it was kind of dry. My dining companions said they had the BEST chili relleno they've ever had---they even tried to get the recipe for the batter (to no avail). It closes early so get there before the kitchen closes! Restaurants in Pecos - if they are open for dinner at all - close at 8pm. The Mexican entrees were edible but nothing outstanding. This is odd given the 90% Latino demographic. The barbecue was a huge disappointment. The brisket meat was trimmed which took off any flavor. It was almost dry. If the house made BBQ sauce hadn't rescued the brisket, it would have been a complete write-off. The "hot link" was a plain sausage. Staff was nice. Lots of parking. read more
