Alice is worth every cent. Book her immediately. My husband and I were looking for an officiant who would be able to help us with a secular wedding ceremony. We did not want it to be religious, but we had trouble finding an officiant who could also make it not "spiritual." Many of the supposedly secular wedding officiants we called seemed to be deeply spiritual people, embracing Buddhist traditions and intense yoga routines. While this is fine, it's not us. We were afraid the ceremony would not reflect our personalities. Before we found Alice, we had quite a few meetings with other officiants who kept on pushing us to "tap into the energy of the day" and "be seized with the spirit," with one officiant even suggesting everyone attending our wedding raise one of their arms to "send a spiritual charge" to the newlyweds. Since there was absolutely no way we were going to endorse a Sieg Heil chant at our wedding, we kept searching... and found Alice! Alice is quite a bit more expensive than some of the other wedding officiants we called. The price difference was enough to get us to pause at first... but, we booked her and we have absolutely no regrets. She met with us through Google Hangouts and from the first conversation, my husband and I fully believed she understood the sort of ceremony we were hoping to share. Throughout the process, she stayed in contact with emails. She was one of the few vendors for my wedding who sent reminder emails to me, rather than the other way around (and I'm a VERY Type A bride!). She sent a questionnaire to both me and my husband so she could learn about us and our relationship. She used our questionnaire responses to craft a ceremony that really reflected and celebrated the milestones in our relationship. The questionnaire also asked great questions about our family's family dynamics, so she could ensure nothing awkward or uncomfortable was said/done during the ceremony. During the ceremony, she brought a binder with the ceremony speech, but DID NOT just read out of the book! Having been to some weddings where officiants promise personalized ceremonies but then just read off a prepared paper, I appreciated the fact that Alice had clearly rehearsed. Not only were her eyes not glued to paper, she was able to adjust the rate and intonation of her speech to highlight important moments or humorous lines in her speech. We received so many compliments from our guests at the reception. Quite a few guests swore she must have been a relative to have been able to speak about us in such a detailed way, and were shocked to learn she was an outside vendor. My fiancee (now wife) and I got married in Brooklyn last month. Alice Soloway wrote our wedding ceremony and officiated at the ceremony. First of all, we are a lesbian couple, living in Tennessee, where same-sex marriage is currently not legal. Planning a wedding from several states away was stressful. She is such a warm person and truly listened to us and what we wanted in our ceremony, which we really appreciated. As we began working together, she sent us each detailed questionnaires about our individual backgrounds and our relationship, which she then wove into a unique and authentic ceremony that perfectly captured us as a couple. Our goal was to create a non-religious ceremony that was lighthearted and a bit humorous, but also personal and sentimental, and that's exactly what she did. We went back and forth editing the ceremony numerous times so that we were all on the same page and there were no surprises on the day of the wedding. She was highly professional in terms of incorporating feedback, responding in a timely manner, and keeping the process organized. On the day of the wedding, she made my husband and I feel so comfortable and her delivery of our ceremony was heartfelt and wonderful. We received so many compliments from our guests afterwards, not only about the beautiful ceremony, but about Alice herself. She is has such an inviting presence and a great sense of humor.
