I love that the park is a fully fenced 4-acre hilly woodland place and even if a dog runs away, they can't get out and will find you eventually. There's no open or standing water, so your pooch won't get wet and stinky for your ride home. Spring and fall are my favorite times here because these woods get buggy in summer; that's when I switch to the park on Flying Cloud. It's smaller, just over an acre, but more open (wear sunscreen!) and there is agility equipment for both the large dog side and the little dog side. It's hilarious to watch my doxie "leap" over the 4" hurdle!

Plus it has an out house toilet in case the humans need to use it.

We checked out the large dog park and my understanding is that there is a smaller one next door. Both parks contain agility courses should your dog enjoy that and it's also what makes this park unique. In addition, there is a large common space with a gazebo type shelter for owners to sit and free water for the doggies. Down the hill you will find two paths where one leads to water (don't worry dogs can't get in as there is a fence) and a giant uphill climb and the other is a more flat circular loop. I enjoyed all the wildlife, the greenery and the open space. My doggies enjoyed it too! Parking is excellent!

The Amphitheater seating is reflected in a smaller seating area surrounding a smaller, more flexible space for concerts and kid-friendly productions as well as private parties. The enormous playground is multi-level and has play structures for everyone from toddlers to teens. Today a group of tweens was climbing the web structure, laughing and playing and challenging each other to get to the top. The different playground levels are all accessible by slides and steps and ramps and the wood chip base is interspersed with flexible, bouncy "miracle turf," the springy rubber paths perfect for differently-abled children. There is a large swing with safety straps, spinners, acoustic drums, bells, and a rolling rain maker - thousands of BBs encased in plexiglass that shower endlessly with the turn of a wheel. My grandson calls this the Big Playground and spent well over an hour running and shrieking and playing on this gorgeous spring day. There are plentiful picnic tables, actual restrooms in the park building, lots of parking, and easy access to the trails to walk around Staring Lake. (Tip: it's pronounced "Starring," something residents know but newcomers may not. Don't ask me, I said "Staring" for years after moving here ...) Bring a snack or bring lunch and relax while your kids burn off all that energy!

Depending on where you enter from, you can enjoy different activities. The south entrance has a very extensive playground, as well as basketball courts, bocce ball courts, a volleyball court, and disc golf. There's lots of benches and tables to sit at or eat at, as well as a full amphitheater. There is a building with indoor restrooms (well kept), a water fountain and water bottle refill station, and a couple of rentable rooms and a rentable gazebo with BBQs, as well as an office (though that was closed when I was there midday on a Monday). There's plenty of parking spaces at this entrance. The north entrance has a smaller playground as well as a garden, a couple of cabins that serve as a place for community events, a firepit, canoe rentals, a pier, a red tail hawk enclosure, an observation station (for their stargazing activities), a minimal wildlife blind, and a nature trail. There is limited parking at this entrance. The west entrance was lamest by far. It had a sizeable parking lot, but the only amenities were a port-a-potty, a pier, and access to the paved trail that goes all the way around Staring Lake. Speaking of the trail, which is what I hiked while exploring here, it is entirely paved and has a line down the middle to delineate directionality. The east side is quite lovely, taking you through shaded secluded-feeling forest; the west side is not as nice, with less shade and a loud road right next to the trail as well as lots of residential housing. Yuck. It also connects with the nearby lake north of it, Purgatory Creek Wildlife Area.

Hooray, I finally came here when the visitor center was open! I've been a couple of times in the…read morepast just to do some hiking on the trails, but I'd never gotten to see the inside as the hours are somewhat narrow being just Wednesday through Sunday. It looked really grandiose from the outside, so I'm unsurprised the inside was quite modern and comfortable. It's comprised of many available seating areas where you can sit and relax (I especially recommend the seating facing the bird feeders, though there's also a cozy fireplace), or simply wander and explore the exhibits they have up with information on them about the history of the refuge, the work its done and is doing, and the animals that inhabit it. This is important work! I'm so glad they're doing it. Unsurprisingly there is a gift shop with expected trinkets such as stickers, pins, patches, plushies, postcards, jewelry, hankerchiefs, and lots of books. So if you'd like to support the refuge and get a little something for yourself, that's a great way to do it. There is additionally an art gallery with revolving local Minnesota artists that take inspiration from nature, an auditorium playing a looped track, and plenty of space for kids to play (including corn hole and giant puzzles). There is a conference room (downstairs) and a community room (upstairs), and considerable office space (not open to the public, obviously). Two water bottle refill stations. Clean bathrooms (separated by gender, but there's also a bonus unisex, accessible one). These folks do LOTS of events throughout the year, most of them completely free to attend (some require RSVP, others don't), so I recommend keeping an eye out for something that interests you. Plenty of free parking is available on site. There are picnic tables around the visitor center, as well as an outlook with binoculars. If you go down along the left side the visitor center, it will take you to the trails if you're here to do some hiking. :)

The problem is that they all slope toward the north so that one team is always attacking up a hill. The cool thing is that if you are the significant other of someone playing, you can take your hound over to the dog park which is right there which I think is pretty cool. No idea what that is like and I actually saw someone had made a separate page just for that. Paved parking lots and restroom facilities are all right there.

Did a quick google search and found this place. Gave a call and the voicemail said to leave a message and they would get back. Yeah right. Well, about 30 minutes later the phone rang! Learned that SUPs were first come first served, but mentioned we were headed to them in mound from Coon Rapids and it would kinda suck to drive that far. I asked what our chances were and they were sweet enough to make sure they didn't all disappear! The process is super easy, tou check in and then walk the few hundred feet to the beach. They bring the boards (or whatever you've rented) over to you and you're set! When you're done you just beach the items and they come grab them. Only down side is SUP is kinda hard for a newbie as the lake is clearly a play lake. Constantly rough from all the jet skiiers.

The East entrance seems to more be the main entrance with a tennis court, hockey rink, children's playground, and little free library. The West end however has a younger children's playground and a gazebo with ample picnic tables and a grill. Both ends have trash/recycling bins and a port-a-potty. No plumbed toilet facilities and no water fountains (this fact admittedly lowered my rating of the place). Trails are all pretty wide (again, to accommodate the cross-country skiers), and there are a decently number of maps posted periodically along the route to help you keep track of where you are. The outermost loop is 3.2 miles, so this would be a decent place to practice your 5k, especially if you want frequent elevation changes. I didn't find the scenery to be all that stunning compared to some other spots I've found around MN, but it was still reasonably pretty here and there. Nice large parking lots on either end.

If I could give this dog park a zero I would-Since moving to Burnsville in 2020 the park has been in steady decline. Aggressive dogs. owners not paying attention to their dogs. and most recently car break-ins. Seems like every week another car is broken into. Steer clear of this park if you want to keep your pet safe and your car out of the reach of burglars. read more

As we walked the trails with our dogs - on leash - I had some reminiscing about riding my horse on the other side of the lake and sailing with my father. Wonderful memories. Lake Minnewashta Regional Park is a 340 acre park on the shores of Lake Minnewashta. Facilities include a swimming beach, bathhouse, off-leash dog area, reservable picnic shelters, sand volleyball courts, creative playground (which looked like a regular playground), paved boat access, paved bike trails, turf trails for walking and skiing, ski/snowshoe rental, and vending machines. If your dogs are good at dog parks, this is one to visit! The Off Leash Dog Area is fenced-in off-leash dog area at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park. This 18-acre site has a separate area for small dogs and approximately one mile of trails. To get in to the off-leash dog area you'll need either a $6 daily or $28 annual vehicle permit. Both are able to be purchased through the honor box at the park entrance by the gate house. Definitely worth visiting!

Essentially, Carver County dedicated a small forest to everyone's favorite four-legged friend, where plenty of tall trees, fresh water streams, gigantic leaf piles, paw and foot friendly trails, sizable grassy green spaces, and speedy squirrels for them to chase exist. In other words, dog heaven resides in Chanhassen. Also, don't worry about your pup running away, because there's a huge fence that wraps around the entire park. Aside from the park itself, prior to entering, there's a little area with a water fountain and hose. Visitors can use the hose down your pup, before loading him or her into the car. For $24, you can purchase the annual pass. Otherwise, like me, you'll have to pay $5 per visit. From what I heard from another dog owner, though, no one mans the tollbooth after September, so the park relies on the honor system for payment. Once you arrive, drive slightly past the tollbooth, and open up a metal lid that holds paper envelopes. Put your $5 in and write your name on it. It's a bit of a cumbersome process to enter, but seeing the biggest smile on my dog's face was well worth it.

Contrary, this might be due to the nice season coming to a close where the water is flipped off? Some negatives of this park is that the parking lot is a very short hike near busy Shepard Road, the cars are loud zooming by and this used to the old location of the homeless tent city and you will still find some homeless crowds when you visit near the park but not inside. Overall, I have enjoyed my visits! I'm thankful this space got turned into something positive. Yay doggies!

This is a very small, annoying dog park next to active train rails. Granted the dog can't get near…read morethem, but they can be loud and annoying. You have to walk in circles here, it is so small. The second gate out to the bigger section leads to annoying, ungroomed wooded area with a bog! Hunters who want to practice may like the protection of knowing the place is fenced, but it not great for the casual dog owner. It's very clean though! I've seen some great cleaning here. It's also sponsered by my favourite dog trainer nearby and several other businesses, so if you need to get a look at the local dog trainers and business that are unlisted, this might be a great thing to drive by. As far as how good it is in weather conditions, the park is located on a kind of steep hill, so if you want to want in circles instead of back and forth, be prepared to go up a hard slope in the winter. The small dog section is very small and not up to par. You have to either have dogs to play with by chance, or something for your dog to do. Water appears to be at the place. It's just a small gated off section right at the entrance. It's about 1/3 the size of the big dog section, which is just pitiful. There's a bench, but no shade unlike the main part section. The main gate is a safety hazard!! One of the clips is so worn, you have to fight to get it open! This leaves opportunity for dogs to run up the gate entrance, which can be intimidating and start fights. The gate entrance is of course doubled gated, but the box between the second gate to enter is very small and can make a dog very defensive because it is cornered between incoming dogs and their owner. There is no other gate entry, sadly. They also say "NO AGGRESSIVE DOGS ALLOWED" everywhere! Which makes me feel like if my dog tries to protect it self when others run up to the front gate and protect me, it will be labeled as aggressive even when it had enough reason to bite or snarl. Fix the front gate, WAG farms!!

The trails are nicely paved as well as some gravel and dirt trails if you get deeper into the wooded areas. They're into running around and sniffing everything, and while they did that, there wasn't a whole lot for them to sniff. So instead of a 3, I'll give it a 4 for those that have hounds that do. Any dog park is better than no dog park. Like other dog parks, people donate bags to pick up the poop and there are trash cans. Parking is also really easy.

This is a great off-leash dog park nearby several Shakopee neighborhoods. It has a parking lot for…read moreeasy travel and unloading dogs. There is an area for smaller dogs and a separate area for larger dogs, both to run around and play with other pooches! There are doggie bags at the entrance of the park and trash cans along the park walkways. There is also a shared built-in water bowl at the front of the park as well. We bring our family dogs here to get energy out and since everything is fenced in, we feel very comfortable letting them run around off-leash as they are also very good with other people and dogs.
