So we signed in online and were able to get an appointment right away which was wonderful and sure beat waiting in an ER for hours. The nurse and doctor were AMAZING with her and eased her anxiety about getting an IV. I get like she was in good hands, and She felt better by the time we left. He asked the receptionist about the dr and she said that she had an emergency and that she left?? I had what was, without question, the most frightening medical experience of my life at this…read morehospital. After my appendectomy, I was discharged despite having clear signs that I was not well enough to do so. My hgb dropped after surgery to a 7.7 AFTER a blood transfusion. My blood pressure which is normally high was at 111 (very low) for me. And the medical team believed those were safe signs for me to be discharged. 6 hours later my heart rate is at 120+ while at rest for many hours and my hgb dropped to 6.3 when I had to painfully return to the ER and wait 5-6 hours to be finally brought to the ICU. There I was given two more blood transfusions and doctors said they saw "a little blood in my abdomen that is totally normal after this type of surgery" I don't believe it was a small amount of blood for ALL of this to happen to me. Looking back, it is terrifying to think about what could have happened to me if I had waited longer to seek help. What was most upsetting was feeling dismissed when I was clearly experiencing symptoms that suggested something was wrong. As a patient, I trusted the medical team to recognize potential complications and keep me safe. The physical recovery has been difficult, but the emotional impact has been just as significant. I now have serious anxiety about seeking medical care because of this experience. I lost confidence in the hospital's judgment and in the way my health concerns were handled. I am sharing this review so that others can be aware of my experience and so the hospital can take a hard look at how postoperative patients are evaluated before discharge. No patient should leave feeling unheard or find themselves back in the hospital facing a potentially life-threatening complication shortly after being told they were well enough to go home. Unfortunately, because of what happened, I do not feel comfortable returning to this hospital in the future.

The amount you will pay is ridiculous, they will charge you for a phone call, for a doctors note to your work or school, be inflexible with appointment changes...and they have your card on file so they will charge at will. Not to mention he doesn't listen to his patients very well or believe them. You'll notice him diagnosing the same things, over and over with no proof. Adrenal fatigue. Thyroid issues. Blah blah. Specifically, i used to see him but he only wanted to sell me supplements from his personal web store. He told me not to buy them anywhere else because his were "better". I found another doc. Fast forward several years, my wife kept going to see him. He ordered a "natural" med for a condition that her bloodwork said she didn't need. He insisted that she needed this med. They ordered it for her that day, without asking, and It was pricey. When she started taking the med she had a serious side effect that he denied was from the med. Every phone call he returned about the side effect, simple questions like "should I stop taking the med? Is this normal?" he charged $190. Each. For a quick phone call. We're about $1000 in and my wife's health got worse and needs other medical follow up, which we're looking for elsewhere. He reached out after she complained about the charges and threatened to leave, he said the charges were a mistake but I'm not confident that's true. I'm a holistic kind of guy, this doctor is not what he appears.

I was sold after my first appointment. If you live in the St. Peters/O'Fallon area, this is your guy. If you live downtown, this is still your guy. I swear he's worth the drive. I've never had a doctor pay more attention to what I'm telling him and genuinely care about what it is that I'm saying... and that's priceless. He's also a pretty funny guy who tries to be "hip" to what's going on in the world and strikes up the funniest conversations! Dr. McIntosh is thorough and knowledgeable, and he'll get you back up and running in no time. I've seen him for typical stuff such as allergies and colds, and he makes great recommendations and always gives me tips that help me feel ten times better. I even had to call the after-hours line once with a bad sinus infection (sure he appreciated that one) and he was still as caring and attentive even though I was bugging him late at night. What puts him above all others is how he follows up and doesn't give up until you've fixed whatever the problem is. For myself, the allergy queen, he prescribed a medicine and a nose spray and had me check in with him 7 days later via the phone, and we spoke that often until he had me on a plan that was working wonders. Looks like I'll be driving that 45 minutes next time I need him!

Dr. McIntosh has been my primary care doctor for over a decade. He is very personable and has an excellent bedside manner. He has seen me through quite a few health issues and always pops through when I've been admitted to the hospital. We don't have all the answers for my health problems but I can't say he doesn't LISTEN to every single one of them. He orders tests and refers me to specialists when needed. I've never felt misunderstood or dismissed which is not something I can say for many many specialists I've seen. To be fair, Auto Immune diseases are notoriously difficult to diagnose but I can confidently say Dr. McIntosh is doing everything he can to help me get answers. I would send anyone I know to see him without reservation. *Read up on Celiac Disease, doc! The amount of misinformation from medical professionals on this is criminal and a huge disservice to those who have it. Effects from celiac damage can spill over into almost every other part of your body. Celiac is for life and a negative blood test/scope (after a positive one) means you're doing well GF. it does NOT mean Celiac went away and you can eat what you wish! Mother was dealing with urine issue for a year. All he did is send her home with antibiotic. As time went on my mother pain got worse he would just give her a stronger antibiotic. When her pain spread to her back he told her she was having back spasms. His plan of action was to give her a pain pill. In that time my mother had bladder cancer that had spread to her stomach then to lungs. He did nothing to look into her issues. He is a failed my mother, not sure if he looks at the elderly as a waste of time. His office staff was not useful at all either. I would not recommend this doctor to my worst enemy if I had one. He should be ashamed of himself for doing that to my mother, not looking into her problems as a doctor should.

Every time I go in I know I'm seeing Dr. Holzem, not a NP or his nurse. I always will see him. He spends as much time as you need. He takes your concerns personal. He not only listens to you, but educates you about the concerns you bring to his attention. Dr Holzem moved from eureka to Washington. It's a further drive for me but it's worth it when you're receiving compassionate care.
