I've never been to the shop, but did want to leave a review since I recently purchased a Frank Sinatra: The Collection box set from All Day Records via email for my best friend's Christmas present. I initially saw the set on Discogs and sent in an email as per their instructions on the seller's page. Ethan was awesome. The moment I showed interest, he removed the Discogs listing for me so I was sure to not lose it. The records were scored as VG+/NM and I have to say that the records are pristine. They arrived well packaged..The packing peanuts were a pain, but hey...the set was protected! My friend is super happy with the gift. I stopped in to sell my CD "I Phone Lifestyle". It is accepted there for sale on consignment. The three of the staff, one Ethan, Owner, Charles, & the other who came in were all intelligent educated people of the class I appreciate knowing. If it were not for the life of the mind, I'd not find much reason to live anymore. I can tell that the people involved with this store know what I am talking about. read more

This is a small, neighborhood record store with limited stock of used vinyl & a good selection of new albums. Quite a solid shop, with a very friendly vibe and a few gems found. Love All Day. The staff have always been extremely cool to me. They have stuff you can't find anywhere else. They get new (new and used) inventory in all the time. And I've found some excellent bargains here. I see some complaints in the reviews about the "hipness" factor, but jeez folks, it's a record store -- every good record store I've been in over the past 40 years has had that kind of vibe. The one in High Fidelity is the perfect illustration of this. It ain't Blockbuster. All Day is what an indie record store is supposed to be. All Day Records has an extremely knowledgeable staff with deep connections to the Triangle. These guys have been acquiring TONS of awesome records for years, and it's great to finally see the store come to fruition. More than just a boutique for ultra-rare post-punk, pre-war blues, and international music, ADR is a fast and professional distro for some of the best new punk and noise-rock records, a place to get all the newest records from local artists and labels, a well-curated venue for local and touring bands, and just a really great space to hang out and listen to music! Full disclosure -- Ethan and Charlie (and staff) are my friends -- but all that aside, I'll be saving my money and selling records in preparation for all future trips to NC, so I can load up at All Day. read more

Definite fan of All Day Records. Lots of bargain crates ($1, $2-4, etc) with plenty of opportunity to score some gems. They have a couple places to sit and chill if you just wanna soak up some house tunes while getting out of the sun. If you are looking for the collector stuff, they seem to have plenty of that on the featured wall as well. The staff has been friendly, but not outwardly helpful. I'm fine with that. Other than that, it's a good, solid record store. Worth a stop if vinyl is your game. 4 solid stars. read more

I'm still recovering from my horribly uncomfortable experience here. My brother and I popped into this store on January 12th and everything was fine for the first 5 minutes. After that, I felt like I was watching a bad Netflix indie movie. The girlfriend (who also works at the shop) of the employee on duty came in and they immediately got snippy with each other. She was pissed that he wouldn't contact "Ethan" for her to check if a record she wanted was in stock. She loudly stated "You're supposed to treat me like any other customer right now. If anyone else asked for something you would check with Ethan." She continued flipping through records furiously while her boyfriend checked in the back for it. All hell broke loose when she asked him for a chip. The poor boyfriend said "Oh I wasn't gonna open those yet." She stared him down and asked again "can I have a chip?" He again said he was waiting to open them for later. She grabbed her stuff and yelled "You know what?! Fine. I'm gonna go get my own chips!" The boyfriend sighed and said "you know what? I changed my mind, you can have a chip." She replies "No. You changed MY mind." Really good one. She came back with her own lunch and walked fast to the back room, boyfriend now chasing after her. This whole time we were the only other people in the shop and the couple fought the whole time. We ended up putting back the records that were in our hands because if we had tried to pay THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO ONE THERE. Just a really unprofessional staff. read more

Total treat! My teen is into vinyl and we drove from Fayetteville based on reviews and Im glad we did. The guys running the shop are very respectful and the selection is clearly carefully chosen. I liked the seating area in the front & they have a cool station for trying a record first, it was a happy find. Very positive experience. read more

All Day (and their associated venue Nightlight) are high on the list of things that make Chapel Hill / Carrboro as awesome as much larger US cities like Chicago and San Francisco. If you are into the type of records that are normally reviewed on UK web shops like Boomkat--mainly low-fi techno, avant/noise/field recording/modern classical, Chicago house, special interest comps by the likes of Soul Jazz, etc.--then you'll find a treasure trove here. They also have a keen ear for jazz and roots music as evidenced by their regularly updated and well curated staff pics section. Their new cassettes reflect top shelf choices by the likes of Opal, 100% Silk, Mississippi Records, and other niche labels. If you recognize any of those references, you'll be overjoyed you stopped in. If you don't but still love great music, sit down at the listening station with something used and interesting looking and get inspired. If you feel insecure enough to make defensive assumptions about the tastes of record store employees, then ask someone you trust to give you a hug, look in the mirror and remind yourself that you, too, are special, drop the baggage, and come in to check out some new records. We'll be waiting with open arms. Albeit in our introverted, record store customer, nerdy way, which means we probably won't say anything and our arms won't actually be open. this is the best place to buy new vinyl in central north carolina. i would say it's the best place to buy new vinyl in the state, but there are some other contenders, most notably harvest records in asheville and chapel hill's cd alley. if not number one overall, all day is easily tied for first. here are just a few of the many things that make all day an excellent record shop: 1. it's first and foremost devoted to records. apart from a small selection of underground tapes, some books, and stereo equipment, the only thing you can buy here is vinyl. 2. all day is tapped in to the local music scene, but it also keeps up with new music coming from other places in the us and international music scenes. you can get things here that you won't be able to find at other shops. 3. they're on discogs* with over 7,000 sales and a 100% positive feedback rating at the time of writing. that's an impressive testament to the quality of inventory and the quality of service all day provides. *if you're unaware, discogs.com is the #1 internet destination for serious record nerds. they have a marketplace section through which users can find and purchase, or list and sell. record nerds are some of the most critical people on earth. if you love records, this is a shop worth going out of your way to visit. whenever i manage to go here without spending at least $100 i consider it a great budgeting success. read more

We stopped in here to check it out during a walk through Carrboro. I did not know there are so many artists I did not know!! They have an amazing selection of vinyl. I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable about the last 6 decades of music, but this place made me realize how small my range of tunes is! I love this record store. All Day Records is one of the best places to crate dig, and I have walked out of here on more than one occasion with some cool vinyl at great prices. The staff are Carrboro locals who are in local bands, and contribute to the community. All Day is an important part of a greater Carrboro culture, just down the street from another great mainstay of the city, Orange County Social Club. The new used section is just inside the door, and there is a comfy spot to throw on a record to give it a listen. If I lived in Carrboro, I would seriously consider just sitting on the couch and being a part of the conversations that happen in here. It's not just a record store, it's a destination for many locals, and just a cool spot to be in. Make sure to look at the vinyl on the wall. I found a near mint original press of Tom Waits "Nighthawks at the Diner" on the wall, and it was priced reasonably. They have a nice local section, with many local labels represented, Merge included ;) You haven't really been to Carrboro until you've been in this shop. read more

While the shop does have a good selection of music, the staff tends to take attitude with the customers. I can agree with another poster that said they are more concerned with looking hip than helping the customer. On two recent visits I requested that an album that I was going to purchase be played first on their Technics turntable. I was told that if I wanted to listen to it then I would have to use the crappy portable player that they have on the floor. I'm sorry but if I am going to drop several hundred dollars in a store, put down your magazine and put the record on the table that I requested. No other record store in the triangle has left me with the ill feelings like the staff has at this store. The owner on the other hand is as nice as he can be, however his employees leave MUCH to be desired. I doubt seriously that I will be spending any more money with this business. read more

This is a really cool place to search for vinyl. The folks I have encountered working there have always been friendly and helpful. When my turntable stopped working properly, they tested and then referred me to a guy in Durham who able to get the needle cartridge rebuilt. Whenever I'm in Carrboro with a few minutes to spare, i drop in to poke through the crates. read more

All Day Records is the best record store in NC. Like CD Alley in neighboring Chapel Hill, they carry a great selection of local independent music in CD and vinyl format. All Day Records, as the name implies, is mostly vinyl, though, and they steer clear of Top 40 and mainstream music trends. They also differ from and complement other record dealers in the area with their broad selection, spanning all genres and continents. Hip-hop, reggae, African music and other world music such as Indonesian gamelan, soul, funk, disco classics and re-edits, punk and post-punk, rock n roll, blues, American folk music, country & old time, electronic dance music of all types from Detroit techno/electro and Chicago house to the West Coast Sound of Holland to rare minimal synth LPs. Their section of reissues is brimming with don't-miss albums and compilations. The staff is exceptionally knowledgeable to boot and happy to special order anything not in-stock. In addition, the record store has become one of the most intimate and exciting venues for local and touring musicians. All-Day Records is the bomb! The music is top-notch, as are the lovely people who work here. Really high quality selections from various genres, from old Chicago house, classic Detroit Techno, Disco 12 inches, Rhythm and Blues, new experimental music, rock-n-roll, and more. The layout is minimal, with beautiful records on display, and comfortable bins to browse. All-Day also supports local and touring musicians. I've learned about more new and old music from checking out shows, digging in the bins, and asking what's currently playing on the turntables. Great record store, waaaay cool. read more

All Day Records is one of the best physical vinyl shops in the country that specializes in dance music, hands down. Their selection includes new dance release imports from Europe as well as domestic pressings that are not easy to find. They carry plenty of other stuff too, including great international and indie sections, but the heart of the shop is techno, house, disco, italo, abstract, and other forms of electronic music, especially 12" singles. There is a great selection of used vinyl, and they also carry a few pieces of very fine used audiophile turntables, cassette decks, etc. The employees are very good about helping customers find a record if they have it, and will recommend where else to check if they don't have it -- but you have to ask! The prices are more than reasonable. Like all great record shops, you can also walk in and find out where the best live music is happening in town. Cannot recommend highly enough! read more

Amazing selection of vinyl -- things I'd never been able to find in my favorite shops in Minneapolis or Chicago. Wonderful selection - a bit of everything, great prices, and they are clearly very involved in the local music scene. It isn't too picked over -- always likely to find something great here.There's a bus stop right at the shop doors, so it's great for popping in for ten or fifteen minutes while waiting for the bus. That being said, you could spend 'all day' here, just hanging out and talking about music! The staff are so friendly, and the shop is very welcoming - plenty of vinyl to peruse and comfy couches to sit on if you fancy. They host record release parties, though I haven't been to one - they have a great space for it. Also, check out the little 1"-pin vending machine by the door - 2 quarters gets you a neat button! The little touches like that make this place something really special. Hope it'll be a Carrboro fixture for years to come. read more

Their inventory of new releases, especially electronic music, is massive. I think what sets All Day apart are the owners, who are very knowledgeable and passionate about the business.
