I came into my training sessions (mostly) knowing what I didn't know; Amelia's breadth of knowledge showed me that there was a lot more that I didn't know. My puppy (Padmé) is fairly stubborn, and also very energetic and curious since she's only 10 months old. Amelia not only validated the frustrations that I had but also guided me to better cope and work with her on new challenges. For example, I had asked for techniques to help Padmé cope in stressful situations (she's very anxious around busses) and Amelia taught her how to settle onto a pad. Padmé picked it up fairly quickly but was also testing Amelia to see what she could get away with. Amelia demonstrated so much patience! In another instance, Amelia helped Padmé and I with our leash-walking skills. When Padmé gets stressed or excited, we do a very annoying dance of Padmé repeatedly returning after there's tension on the leash, then rushing forward again. After a session, Padmé seems to naturally walk beside me as we explore the world, and she even does it when I don't have high-value treats. Beyond Amelia's ability to handle any training goals that I threw at her, she does a great job of training me to be a better partner to Padmé. She also gave a great recommendation for a harness that Padmé so far has not been able to slip out of (fourth time's a charm, apparently). Adopting an incredibly smart German Shepherd mix as a first-time dog owner probably wasn't the smartest move. Frida can be a bit anxious at times and had previously gone through punishment-based training. She did not listen when called, and would test my boundaries on walks by chewing the leash or even barking at me. Amelia quickly helped me communicate better with my dog and worked with Frida directly to show her what a calm, gentle walk looks like. She showed me how to bring Frida's focus back when she's distracted by another dog or triggered by a loud noise or other unexpected events. We just got a rescue dog and were having trouble finding a good dog trainer in the city. We came across Amelia and she was amazing! Our dog had dog aggression issues as well as basic training issues.
