Updating my review to say how incredibly happy I am with Powerhouse K9! My puppy is now 8 months old and has spent a total of 5 weeks here (3 weeks for board-and-train and 2 weeks for regular boarding). As a first-time puppy owner, I wasn't sure what to expect or if puppies just naturally outgrow certain behavioral issues. Either way, this is the only formal training she has ever had, and the results speak for themselves. She came back so incredibly well-behaved. And has reminded well behaved. Five stars! We came in for our 1 year old Shiba Inu. He was having resource guarding and aggression issues. We were constantly being bitten by our dog and scared to be in the same room with him. Anthony is amazing! We adopted a 3 year old Staffie mix 3 weeks ago. She would pull me on walks chasing lizards and squirrels. I picked my 7-month-old BC, River, from Anthony's on Friday, after leaving him there for two weeks. River is a good boy and very smart, but he is our third dog and we adopted him at a busy time, so I needed someone to lay the foundational skills for me - sit, down, heel, stay, and patience in the crate - and to make sure those skills were solid. Anthony did a great job with River, who now walks right beside my on a leash, sits every time I stop, lays down the first time I ask, and actually stays put! I have been searching for a trainer for my 2 year old Rottweiler since we picked him up from the breeder June 2021. I thought I could train my dog-o on my own, but I thought wrong. He knew some basics, but he needed fine tuning. I found Anthony (Powerhouse K9) on Yelp mid-2022, but kept going back and forth with justifying placing him in a board and train for several weeks. After finding out we were expecting our second child, I knew we had to make sure his training was tight. I contacted Powerhouse K9 and spoke with Anthony. Anthony was very responsive and told it like how it was. I provided information about our dog and our concerns and he made his suggestion on how we should approach his training. Initially he suggested 1:1 training, but my husband and I were unable to go with this route because of our opposite work schedules. We inquired about the board and train and agreed this was the best option for our family. We dropped Chase off, spoke with Anthony and he advised how the process would be. Throughout the board and train, we received updates and videos of Chase and his progress. When it was time to pick up Chase, we coordinated a time to pick him up. Anthony is the truth. I highly recommend Powerhouse K9, worth every penny. We went with the 3-week board and train for our 7-month-old XL Bully, Xena. At 7 months old she was already pushing 70 lbs and extremely strong, and WILD. I have a 6 and 8-year-old in the house who have friends over, so it is important to me that they can walk and play with her safely and our sweet puppy was becoming a safety hazard. Anthony was transparent and explained his training methods so I understood what I was getting. He kept me informed of her progress and sent videos or Facetimed me so I could see her. I have been fostering dogs for the past 10 years, and decided to adopt my latest foster which is a 4 year old Samoyed rescued from the meat market in China. She's got an amazing temperament inside the house but once we got outside she wants to lead and pull on the leash and lunge and bark at other dogs that walk by. I tried watching lots of YouTube videos and got tips from friends and even used my clicker training skills that I've accumulated over the years and nothing seemed to get her to behave appropriately on the leash and get her to learn how to heel. I called a handful of other Bay Area dog trainers and thought of boarding her at a doggy boot camp since it appeared that I just didn't have the skills to train her properly. Once I got on a call with Anthony and he convinced me to come out to Vacaville to his new training property to give me a few lessons, it all clicked. Not only was the equipment I was using to train her not appropriate for her skills building, but even if I bought the right collar and leash, without the proper guidance from a trained professional, I wouldn't have been using the tools the correct way. I highly recommend Anthony if you're having issues with your dog: - pulling on the leash while walking - barking at other dogs while walking - basic obedience training (sit, stay, leave it, come, etc.) - separation anxiety Now that I have the proper leash and collar to train my dog with, I've been using the tips that Anthony provided and within 2 days she's walking better by my side and now that I have better communication and control with her, she's not as anxious and doesn't bark at every dog walking near us. If it wasn't for Anthony, I would have probably given up on myself, and brought my dog to a $4k facility in where they would have boarded up my dog and trained her for 4-5 weeks. Anthony taught my dog to heel in about 5 minutes!! I am quite frankly amazed. So I have a 1+ year old male GSD, and I have been trying to teach him to heel for months. Another trainer taught me a method of bribing him with food, but the problem was that once he gets outside he's so excited by all the happenings outside that he doesn't even care about food. He won't even take kibble, and I have to use raw meat just to get his interest. And of course, as soon as he takes the food he stops heeling and wanders off again... it was a terrible struggle. Eventually I gave up and bought him a gentle leader head harness, which worked okay for awhile... but after he dragged me violently towards a squirrel one day, I thought I'd give it another try. Anthony had me use a slip lead + prong collar and took the leash for the dog. Within a few minutes and several corrections my dog was heeling. I just stood there amazed because I thought this would take the full 5 sessions. I did come back for all the 1:1 sessions and I feel like most of it was me learning how to train the dog, rather than the dog actually being trained. It turns out my boy is super smart and once /I/ learned how to train him he now heels like a pro, sits and waits like a pro, goes down on command... still not the best on recall but it's because I've been lazy and haven't trained it. But hallelujah I'm not getting jerked around on walks anymore. I don't know if this method is strictly necessary if you have a little dog or a food motivated dog, but it sure worked well on my German Shepherd. Also, my dog can be quite fearful and reactive, especially around men, but Anthony clearly knew what he was doing when handling the dog and at no point was I worried that any accident or injuries would occur. Man where do I even begin?! Anthony has been a part of our family and GSD's life for 4 years now. Leo, our GSD, went through Powerhouse K9's 3 week bootcamp in November of 2019 when he was about 8 months old. Anthony did a fantastic job training my very stubborn 16 month old Golden Retriever puppy who was running the show at home. We couldn't walk him on a leash without being dragged down the street literally! He'd jump out of the cab of the truck if he went with me anywhere and I was scared to death he'd be run over.
