It's been about two years since i've updated my review and it says a lot about the restaurant that it's been there as long as it has. It's conveniently located in the strip mall with plenty of parking..it's the same mall off of University with Campbell's health foods, Hy-Vee pharmacy, Frederich's coffee. This restaurant still has that old time mom and pop Asian family feel it's a definite classic type vibe with Auntie snd the neices up front taking orders and the rest of the family in the back cooking and putting to go orders together. I always like to support a locally owned business. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Having said that the service was fast and efficient . It's also about being realistic about the food. This is not a mall based chain restaurant or a high end bistro somewhere. The food was well prepared hot and delicious. This is a Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant. So there's lots of variety in the menu. I have had the build your own Pho, Korean style Kalbi ribs. They also have Hunan Chinese style dishes, i have tried Mongolian beef, combination fried rice and potstickers. I also have tried the pork fried egg rolls. I usually go for a late lunch early dinner. I talked to the owner and asked her how they made their soup and she said they boiled bones and added their own spices which is the traditional way to do things, I think they have a good soup base, all soup comes with sprouts and fresh Thai basil, I usually add bok choy, brisket and steak. They have plenty of other Vietnamese dishes too. I have enjoyed their pork vermicelli which is a cool salad type dish which is nice on a hot day. Some of my friends really enjoy their chicken wings. So there's still a good option with lots of choices, good staff and reasonable prices. read more

I ordered the Pho Special (comes with brisket, beef tendon, eye of round, and meatballs). My dad got the Vietnamese ramen (egg noodles with meat & shrimp), my mom got the sizzling clay rice pot, and my brother got the stir fry beef egg noodles. Not the best pho I've had, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Broth had great flavor, however I wish I could have had raw steak as I prefer that in my pho but that wasn't an option- I usually like getting raw steak to put into the hot soup and let it cook a bit through as you put it in. I haven't had pho in years since eating vegan. House broth is made of beef broth. Vegan broth is from daikon radish, onions, and other vegetables. I appreciated that I was allowed to ask. The cook does not speak much English. And our server was not Vietnamese but she was able to ask. Crab rangoons were delectable and my favorite were those shrimp spring rolls! I really appreciated the spring rolls and the quality. Ingredients were fresh and complementary in every bite. I was completely impressed due to not having one this good in a long time. The way the veggies are placed were what impressed me. Not many places know how to make a correct spring roll. Bubble tea is not vegan friendly as it contains casinate in their non dairy creamer. I stayed with water. During COVID19 review: Positivity rate is high in Des Moines now so there are not many people dining in. Open seating the whole hour we were there. A handful of take out orders. Good boba and delicious pho! The portions are huge and this was one of my go to places when living in Des Moines.

It's now the prime time for patio season and this place does have a nice patio and even allows your family pet dog on the patio as well. When you first arrive you wouldn't think they have patio seating, but they do. It's in the back and you can request to seat there. They have large pound chairs and tables. And the atmosphere is cute and I could definitely see a first date feel here. Especially at night with their hanging lights. The only thing is that the chairs are too low to eat comfortably because the tables are so high. As for the food, it was okay. It is more on the sweeter side. And I would have to say it's more Laos/Philippino style than Vietnamese, since their phos and fish sauces tend to be on the sweeter than savory/slightly salty umami. The potions are big and definitely filling. We got the Spicy Beef noodle soup which was not spicy to our taste when it comes to Bun Bo Hue. So if you're a person that does not handle too spicy but a nice hint to it you would like it. The noodles were tender and clocked well and the meat was also nicely done too. The Spring bowl was good as well. The meat: shrimp, pork, egg rolls were cooked nicely and had a good char flavor to it. The egg rolls in it are veggie. My only flaw is that the fish sauce for the bowl was lack luster. It was sweet and did not have the spicy lime or umami taste to it. I think if they had a tray of fish sauce and lime on the table I would definitely add to it to not be so sweet. Overall, it was okay, I think with me being raised in a Vietnamese household I am more bias and prefer a savory fish taste to my Bun Bo Hue and Fish sauces it's a little more authentic. I feel it's more catered to the American pallet. But still okay, in terms of atmosphere, ambiance, and food. read more

Worst pad Thai I've ever had, spice was runny and almost grey in color and hardly any flavor. We made a pit stop driving through Des Moines craving for some pho on a cool summer evening. All Pho You is easily one of the best pho spots in the mid-west. They have a nice balance of savory to sweetness in their pho broth that is very unique and you're going to be coming back to over and over again for those giant beef ribs in your pho. The spring rolls are made just how I like them with even amounts of sliced pork to shrimp ratio. Their sauces are great, and the Bahn Mi pairs well with the pho broth kind of like an Au jus if you dip it in and eat it, it is quite succulent. My kids gobbled up the pan seared dumplings as if there was no tomorrow, the boba drinks are fantastic as well and the tapioca pearls are really soft, another star to my liking. Service and staff were generous, kind, and professional. We'll most likely come to this hidden jewel again whenever we drive though Iowa. The locals of Des Moines count yourself blessed to have a great pho restaurant amongst you as I wished their was one in my town that has quality food like this near me. All Phở You... I hate puns, but I think I may love this new Vietnamese/Thai option in the Uptown Shopping Center. For years a Chinese restaurant, APY has cleaned up and redecorated the location, giving it a richer, darker feel. Twice there, both times carry-out, and with a variety of orders, and a couple of repeats. Nothing poor, but of particular note is their pad thai, egg rolls, and spring rolls. The pad thai has a good consistency, not too wet or dry, and a good balance of flavors. A couple of our orders were ever-so-slightly eggier, which was divine. The egg rolls (chicken) are finger-sized and crispy. They are served with a standard duck sauce (not to be confused with the red-orange sweet-n-sour that you run into all too often) and with their containers smartly clipped to prevent condensation in the box. Their spring rolls (grilled chicken) have a great balance of ingredients and are snuggly rolled making them a pleasure to bite into. They are served with a very nice rich and flavorful peanut sauce. APY follows pretty good COVID-19 precautions including clean and dirty pen bins at the cash register, hand sanitizer.in at least two locations, and face covers on (at least) front line employees This establishment has a small footprint requiring you to pass through tables in use to get to the counter to pick up your food. Des Moines has some excellent Vietnamese and Thai options, I'm glad to have another worthwhile option to add to my rotation. read more

My husband and I thought the food was just average. Not terrible, but not great either. I got the grilled banh mi with pork and spring rolls with pork and peanut sauce. The banh mi was pretty good but I didn't taste much sauce or dressing in it. I'm a person who likes a lot of sauce, so the more, the better. The spring rolls were mostly lettuce and noodles and not much meat. I didn't taste any bean sprouts, cilantro or mint so it was kind of flavorless. The peanut sauce didn't have any zing, either. My husband was very disappointed that his Hunan chicken didn't have any baby corn in it. It clearly mentions it in the menu and that's his favorite part of the dish. He thought his dish wasn't spicy and it didn't have a lot of flavor. It also didn't have much chicken, either. It was mostly vegetables. I'd say they're pretty skimpy with their meat here. The atmosphere was very nice and the decor was much nicer than most Asian restaurants. Our waiter was super friendly but the service was slow. They had a lot of carry out orders so we waited awhile for our food. I'm giving a 4 star because Yelp does not allow half point systems -- I'm rounding up mostly because they are newly opened (during covid, nonetheless). They have kinks to figure out as with any new business. I have faith they will continue to get better. The waiters and waitresses took the pressure and complaints by guests with such grace. Be patient and anticipate a wait. Now on to the food. We had combination banh mi, bun bo hue, and All Pho You special pho (combination pho). I enjoyed the bread used for the banh mi--perfect amount of crisp and crunchiness. The flavor was delicious. The stuffing is lacking -- could really use more vegetables/garnishes. I really want to know where they get their bread though -- oh, so good!! The pho broth is decent, if I had to compare amongst other DSM's pho broth, this one is in the upper half. Pho could use more meat/meatballs/tendons. The bun bo hue was my least favorite item. Their broth was not rich enough -- seems artificially flavored. There's too many places in DSM that serves a flavorful bbh broth to bother with it here. Their menu has Vietnamese, Chinese, and a few Thai dishes. I will definitely return because the location is prime. They're also the best pho west of downtown / Drake. Btw, all staff members were wearing mask in case anyone is wondering. read more
