Regular orange chicken bowl with steamed rice.
    Dan T.

My daughter and I stopped into Teriyaki Madness this weekend. It's right off of Jordan Creek Parkway in a business strip. Not hard to find and there is plenty of available parking. A fast casual franchise with locations from the East coast to the West coast. It's order and pay at the counter up front, but they do take your name and bring the food to your table. Seating is a combination or half booths along with low top and high top tables and chairs. Teriyaki Madness also offers order online and multiple pick up options. In store and Mad Dash (curb side). We'd both browsed the menu online and the ordering process was easy enough to figure out. We've seen this model before. Pick your protein, starch, and add ons, and combo it up if that's what you want to do. Service at the counter was quick and well run. My daughter did the regular bowl of orange chicken and steamed rice (no vegetables) with a regular combo of edamame and a self serve fountain drink (Pepsi products). I did a large bowl of spicy chicken teriyaki yaki style (protein, vegetables and yakisoba noodles all tossed together) and a regular combo that included a chicken eggroll and a fountain drink. If you are on a budget be a little careful...the upgrades and add ons can bring your total cost up pretty fast. The food came out after a short wait. All if it was piping hot! I mean like mouth blistering hot so make sure you check the temperature before taking a bite. I love this! But some may not... We both really liked the food. I'd seen a report that the "spicy" wasn't that spicy. Maybe mileage varies on this depending on the kitchen... I don't consider myself a chilihead (I'm comfortable up through ghost peppers), but there was definitely some heat to it. Not overpowering, but enough that I had to pause and reflect a couple of times. The large bowl was enough that I took home almost enough leftovers for a second meal and I'm a big eater. My daughter even took home a little bit of her regular bowl. Counter service was fantastic here! A younger woman (to me) helped up out at the couter. She was probably in her mid-twenties to early thirties and she has the line running like a well oiled machine. Very polite and personable and still efficient. As we were leaving we were bussing our table and she noticed that we were going to walk out the door with our bowls. She offered a bag to us to carry our leftovers in. Packaging mostly is the heavy duty black plastic bowls with clear lids. The sides came in paper product packaging. They let us know the bowls were microwaveable and dishwasher safe. Back in my bachelor days I had a "tupperware" set made up of stuff like this... I still keep some around now and then. It works well when I want to take my lunch into the office. If you're not chopstick friendly that's okay...they have forks too. Well...it's kind of a combo. You'll see. Lol Service was very good and the food was enjoyable. They don't go cheap on the ingredients. Fresh and quality. And best of all... I didn't have to fight for parking to run into Jordan Creek Mall on a Saturday to grab some Great Teriyaki from the food court (my normal go to for teriyaki in the area). Definitely worth checking out! https://teriyakimadness.com/locations/ia-west-des-moines/

Food was overpriced for what you got, and there are better teriyaki options in the area. Real offense here is their use AI for their video advertising. Nothing says "I don't give a d*** about quality" like using bottom of the barrel slop to get people in the door. Support your community by paying an artist and maybe the community will support you back.

Shout out to Teriyaki Madness in West Des Moines (Jordan Creek) that opened a few months ago! This new gem is a MUST try! The restaurant is clean and bright (also cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen), the service is welcoming, and the food...oh gosh, the food! Speaking from someone who knows Asian cuisine really well and very picky about how "teriyaki" dishes should be prepared and taste, this is damn near spot on! Chicken moist, flavors explosive, and the portions sizes they serve are so generous. Menu is priced really well considering how much food you get. You also build your bowl to what you like. They also offer vegetarian options. Every dish comes with rice or noodles, your choice of protein, and a nice portion of steamed veggies. We've tried a couple different items since trying them for the first time. 1. Chicken katsu - anyone who's from Hawaii that lives in Iowa - bruh, you gotta try this and tell me what you think! Broke da mouth! 2. Spicy teriyaki chicken: when they say spicy they mean it! We love spicy food but this hard core! The first couple of bites is manageable, but the spice slowly intensifies. You have been warned! 3. Chicken pot stickers: crispy edges and delicious filling! 4. Orange chicken: this one beats the one at Panda any day. 5. Edamame: don't get too excited! It's just a plain salted version of edamame, but still good if you're in the mood for it. I'm used to making ones at home with my spicy sweet chili sauce and shoyu (soy sauce). Let's not let businesses like this have to go away because no one knows they're here. Try them out! I promise you won't regret it!

There was a small rock hard piece in either the chicken or the rice that chipped my molar.

Potstickers were just okay. The dipping sauce didn't do them any favors--this felt like an easy upgrade they're missing. Imperial Egg Rolls were the biggest letdown. At $17 for three, I expected something memorable...they just weren't. Pad Thai landed squarely in "average." Grilled Honey Roast Chicken Egg Noodles was a mixed bag. The chicken itself was delicious, but the noodles were pretty bland--and oddly, they didn't really work together. Royal Fried Rice was a win. The combo of BBQ pork, sweet sausage, and shrimp came together really well. Seafood Noodle dish was unfortunately pretty bland. All in all, a few bright spots, but not a place we're rushing back to--though I'd reorder those wings without hesitation.

The entrees are well portioned. My favorite style of Pho is Soft meats. The tenderloin is too chewy but flavorful. The soft poached egg and the fresh veggies are phenomenal. The service is great with the wait staff being very attentive. However they were out of Mocktail offerings which is not good when more gatherings are opting for non alcoholic flavors. They need to stock up for millennials and the genzeers who want options. The total vibe was very peaceful and it allowed you to sit and think.

The chicken was super tender and juicy with just the right amount of teriyaki sauce, in my opinion. Each sushi roll was put together very well with equal proportions. Not too much of one ingredient to overpower the rest. The dumplings were delicious and perfectly crispy on the outside. Not to mention the sauce that came with them was to die for! The service was great! Our waitress was very patient and helped us figure out what appetizers to get, since it was our first time in. She explained everything in detail and her recommendations were perfect! She even made our drinks (I forgot to get a picture of the strawberry lemonade) and they were awesome! Inside wasn't too loud or crowded and it's laid out quite nicely. There's even outdoor seating, which isn't neglected by the wait staff. Some places tend to "forget" about the customers outside but they didn't do that here. All of the staff were attentive and polite. Even with the bar being next to the table we were sitting at, it didn't feel crowded inside and the tvs weren't too loud.

We try one new restaurant each month just to keep things fresh, so this time I suggested Fawn's. I'm really glad we did. I had heard so many great things about the food so I was excited to try it. When I saw the menu, though, I was a little nervous because they serve Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Laotian food. In my experience, restaurants that try to serve all kinds of Asian food rarely do one or all of them well. I ordered Pad Thai and my husband got Evil Jungle Prince. I was very pleased. It was the best Pad Thai I've ever eaten. It was SO good! My husband loved his dish, too. It had chicken and vegetables with a spicy sauce made with red curry and coconut milk. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge. We each got two meals out of our dinners. I love it when that happens. The place isn't fancy. It's in a small strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside it's very clean and well-kept. There's not much for ambience besides two flat screen TVs. It doesn't matter because it's the food that really stands out. The service was excellent, too. My husband had his iced tea refilled twice without even asking. Great affordable food and good service. What more can you ask for? If you love Asian food, give them a try. I can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes.

While a bit of a hidden gem off of 86th Street, the building is modern, chic and inviting - with a large covered patio area connected to the north side of the building. The one negative is that the temperature is kept very cold inside, so consider bringing a sweater or light jacket to stay comfortable. Unfortunately, tonight was a bit cold outside, so it was a coinflip on which was better - we opted for the patio seating and the wind settled down during our visit to get quite comfortable. We started with a Cuban Martini and Sojito (see picture) along with an order of Bang Bang Shrimp (see picture) for an appetizer. We enjoyed the drinks and the Bang Bang Shrimp with the drizzled Yum Yum-type sauce was delicious! For our main courses, my wife ordered the Thai Pasta (see picture) and I opted for the Fig, Avocado and Goat Cheese Salad (see picture). As is our custom, we both shared bites from each of our plates and liked both of them very much - although the Thai Pasta definitely had a bit more 'kick'. We ordered the Tres Leches for dessert (remembering it from our last visit), but unfortunately found that they were sold out, so had to leave without dessert.
