Do you have experience with this type of paint?" Reassurances all around. The painter, Doug, called me with a litany of "faux finish" jobs he had done that looked great. He painted the room with my paint, and after two coats, he packed up, reassuring me that it was going to look great when it dried. Well, after a day or two, it was clearly a disaster. I called Barbara, who came out to look and of course said that the job needed to be fixed. Score 1 star for FreshCoat. Barbara (admini) and Douglas (painter) met and decided that I needed to use paint that he was familiar with. This seemed totally reasonable, and I figured I should have known better than to buy house paint at Target. So I went to Lowes and purchased the primer, base coat, and metallic that they recommended. Douglas came back, forgot to use the primer (he read the paint cans wrong), and finished the job with his recommended paint. Again, he packed up and left with reassurances. The picture that I'm attaching isn't of wet paint, or of one coat when another was planned. This was the finished job, several days later. I called poor Barbara to complain again, and again she came out to look at it. I told her that I was not going to pay for the full rate of painting, and we settled on a price for their effort plus several days of work, etc. 800 dollars. I am giving two stars because I appreciated that the owners were apologetic, rather than trying to make it seem like I was crazy or too demanding. Barbara's parting words were "Doug usually does a really good job..." They didn't offer to send another painter to fix it, and I didn't insist, because at that point it had gone on for over a week and I was tired of having people in the house. I ended up getting boring, non-metallic paint and painting it myself. It was a total waste of a thousand dollars (when I add the cost of many cans of paint).

Unfortunately Sun Shining Painting has ruined my children's brand new cedar playset. The stain was…read moreapplied way too thick, is blotchy and has a severely uneven finish. Luis is a nice man however it is obvious he does not know how to work with stain. He feels the results are perfect however no, not at all. I just had two professional painters confirm that the playset is ruined and it will take significant steps to correct. The playset is so destroyed by his shotty staining that it actually requires replacement. I have added screenshots of text messages in which he claims the job was complete. Only after telling him that I was going to withhold final payment did he offer to stop by to "fix" the job. The job is unrepairable. He claims that, with stain, I am supposed to see all the brush marks and that the playset looks great. Obviously it doesn't and the pictures don't lie. He walked away from the job after I explained that his "solution" to slather more stain won't do anything to address the terrible work. This is all on video from my surveillance system. He has left me multiple voicemails with threats to remove the photos I posted, which I won't.

Several companies came to the house for estimates for the paint project. Luis at Sun Shining gave us the best price so we went with his company. We had yet to learn how professional and talented he was. He and one of his employees worked quickly and with precision. He is a perfectionist who gave us extra coats of paint at no cost until the walls were perfect. Our walls were porous and had been in worse shape than we originally thought. Now the walls and doors look so beautiful! It looks like a brand-new house! Most painters would charge extra for as many as 3 coats of paint, but not Luis. He is a devoted Christian who wanted to stay true to his word on the price that he quoted us. He was extremely polite, respectful and friendly. He told us about his delightful wife and his 5 wonderful children. His business is only 2 years old but he worked for his father's painting business in Florida for most of his life. He painted professionally at NASA and at Disney. No wonder he is so talented!

Repeated requests for a true breakdown were never fulfilled. Sue, the project manager, offered no real help with fixture selection (e.g., she told us to "use the filters" on a website we'd already tried). TIMELINE DISCONNECT (FEB 28) Keith disclosed late that the countertop needed a 10-business-day lead time and that subsequent tasks would push the project to around three weeks--far beyond our hoped-for one-week timeframe. CONTRACT & SCOPE OMISSIONS (MAR 12-21) After I canceled a meeting, Keith declined to email the contract, insisting on another in-person appointment. We finally reviewed it on March 15 but discovered the trashcan insert was omitted. Keith apologized yet still never provided a detailed cost breakdown. TILE PROBLEMS (SPRING 2024-MAY 2025) Several tiles were laid out improperly, and two had extra-wide grout lines. Keith's crew returned weeks later, but he sent a finish carpenter, not a tiler, leaving flaws. They redid those tiles again in May 2025 without Keith supervising. COUNTERTOP & BACKSPLASH ISSUES (FEB-MAY 2025) Small items rolled off the countertop's edge. By April, the section over the dishwasher sagged, leaving a gap. Keith finally added a bracket in May, admitting it should have been done initially. For the backsplash, his crew broke the grey-white marble pattern without asking, substituting grey for white near the edge. Keith insisted the white pieces were "too small" to cut, which felt untrue, and he never consulted us. OTHER UNPROFESSIONAL INCIDENTS Keith brought up politics (specifically, Trump) during contract signing, which felt inappropriate. One day, his workers cut quartz with our windows open, blanketing our downstairs in dust, for which he offered $200. A worker also smoked in our backyard after we explicitly said no. FINAL INVOICE & REFUND DISPUTE (SEPT 2024-MAR 2025) Keith apologized for including the unapproved floor-leveler charge on our final bill. We requested about a 10% refund due to recurring problems and incomplete fixes. He verbally agreed in March 2025 but later avoided the subject. We still haven't received any compensation. BBB complaint pending.

After leaving several messages, the owner of Preferred Painting came to review the job with us and when we voiced our dissatisfaction he tried to walk out on us. (He already had our money.) We had to beg him to finish the job, and he finally agreed to send someone back. But even after he sent one of his workers to finish the job, there still remain many streaky areas, with the old color showing through. These painters trashed the house, leaving plaster dust coating everything and refused to vacuum it. This was a very stressful, nightmare of a job.

We were given a written proposal to fix our rear deck and front porch with everything explained,…read morethe contractor Guy Racine agreed on the price and (GUY) the contractor started work. 3/4 of the way finished the building Code inspector showed up on the Job site asking for a building permit, the Contractor Guy Racine said he didn't pull one. Over the next few days the Contractor tried to get us to pull the permit stating it would be a lot cheaper yet in the proposal it states that the contractor pulls the permit. I called the town and they advised me NOT to pull the permit as if I did it I'd be liable for a injuries or mishaps. Guy the contractor told me that the town was using scare tactics on me and that I should go ahead and pull the permit..I refused. Since, the Contractor wants to negotiate his price for more money. I met with the build inspector and he pointed out a lot of poor workmanship that GUY at Racine homes did and it will not meet Code standards. No Flashing on the rear deck or front porch, No 12 inch concrete footer at the bottom of the step on both set of step, they are just sitting on the dirt, no correct spacing on the Rear steps leading into the house. It has been weeks and within those weeks I have had no Contact from the Contractor and while we were not home, he came and removed all the building materials from the jobsite that I paid for to complete the job and took the front railings off the front porch. Unfortunately it has come to leaving a bad review but if it will help someone out from not getting taken advantage of, then it helped.
