I remind them they have choices and can go to any school yet they insist on staying at museum until they graduate. We have seen many staff changes over the years but the core values seem to carry on. Its a small tight-knit school with around 25 kids per grade. Miss Jaleh TK and Miss Diana K are the perfect teachers to kickoff your kids learning journey. The drive thru lane for drop offs and picks ups is top.

During my search, I stumbled across the Museum School, and it looked a little too good to be true. I also noted that they historically had a waitlist, so I was pretty sure it was going to be a no-go. I called anyway, and as it turns out, they had an opening in my child's grade level. I made an appointment for a tour. Every staff member I met, from the director to the office admin to each instructor, was friendly and welcoming. The kids looked and sounded happy. It was reassuring that my bright, school-loving child would be having fun, engaging in activities like fitness and art and music, but also be appropriately challenged with a good curriculum. This is not a self-led program, it isn't play-only--it's actual instruction with plenty of room to enjoy learning and discovery. To me, having come from a family of educators at the grade and high school levels, this marries the best of both worlds. It is both academic and hands-on, and my young child even has homework, but it isn't excessive. The kids actually get outside in the fresh air to play, and I have been welcoming the dirt on my little one's socks as a sign of a day well spent. I took time to actually read through the parent handbook, which I have done for each school we've been part of. Nowhere have I seen as thorough a section on what constitutes appropriate behavior between staff and students, and how both should feel empowered to address situations that feel inappropriate--I was absolutely floored, and my inner teen had a moment of healing and validation reading through the text. It brought an additional sense of peace around the decision we made to enroll here. This is a diverse staff and campus, with a diverse representation of humans who trust them with their children. I look forward to seeing how this school will positively impact mine.

In our 2 years there, we watched our son grow immensely in his confidence, relationships, and overall love of learning. He was sad to leave school every day and excited to wake up and start the day with his amazing friends and teachers. The approach and philosophy that Fleur de Lis takes truly allows each child to blossom in their own unique and beautiful way and we not only got to experience this with our son, but saw it with his classmates as well. We saw our son make presentations to his class about a science or art project he did with us at home or proudly present his show and tell Spider-man toy to his classmates - we are so grateful to the entire Fleur de Lis community for encouraging this level of self-esteem and individuality.  The staff at Fleur de Lis is truly one of a kind -  the professional, yet individualized attention of Tina Smith and April Kozelh as directors is amazing. They know your child personally and do everything in their power to make your child's experience at Fleur de Lis enriching and creative. Our son still talks about Ms. Tina coming into their classroom and reading them special books (his favorite was about an owl in NYC) and Tina consistently shared specific memories of our son's social and emotional growth during his time there. The teachers we had at Fleur de Lis (Ms. Sandy, Ms. Chelsea, Ms. Amber, Ms. Kiara and Ms. Diana for Spanish) were incredible in every way - we appreciated the attention to the holistic needs of each child - the cognitive, physical, and emotional were all given attention and we saw our son blossom in each area. The day our son "graduated" Fleur de Lis School was a bittersweet one - we were thrilled to know he was ready for kindergarten, but also so sad to say goodbye to the daily moments of this special community. Our son couldn't stop hugging his amazing teacher Ms. Sandy at the singing show - clearly showing the same emotions we felt as parents.

I remember my son, Julian, sobbing when I left him on his first day as a two year old, and my heart was breaking. In less than a week, he was all smiles at drop off, excited to see his teachers and friends. Since then, he's thrived at this school, both emotionally and educationally. Now, two years later, he's heading to Francis Parker, and looking back on his time at FDL, I can't express how grateful I am to the amazing team there. There are a few specifics that make FDL special: The community -- everyone at FDL knows Julian's name, even teachers who aren't assigned to his class. Pre-Covid, when I would pick him up from his classroom, his daily departure was like a little parade, with waves and goodbyes to friends, teachers, directors, everyone. You really feel like part of a family here. Kira, Bev, April, Julie, Julia, Diana, Iris, Nina, Autumn, and many others...each has been a unique and positive impact on Julian and our family over the past two years. The safety -- speaking of Covid, I don't think I appreciated how nice it is to have total confidence in the efforts of the FDL team to keep my child safe at all costs until this pandemic. When they reopened under new safety guidelines, I never once worried they would slack or not keep the sanitation and safety bar high. In fact, Julian now inspects my hand washing and admonishes me if I have not made enough soap bubbles or washed long enough . They always ran a tight ship, but it's exceptional now. The positive reinforcement of high expectations -- on my visit prior to enrolling at FDL, I saw all the kids eating lunch as they chattered politely and consistently used manners. On the playground, no one pushed. They all took turns. What's more, they were still incredibly joyous little kids, giggling and delighting in silly play. I was in awe. And yet, now Julian models those same behaviors. FDL teachers are kind and warm, but firm. They set a high bar, and the kids rise to meet it. At the same time, there is tremendous fun had on the daily at this school. Julian greets me at pick up with a big smile and a hug, his cheeks flushed from play and sand in his shoes. He excitedly shows me his projects and tells me funny stories and things he learned from the day. FDL is exceptional. If you have the chance to send your child there, take it. You would be hard pressed to find a more loving and capable setting. We will miss it terribly!

Some teachers truly stand out as rockstars -- Mrs. Buckley in particular has been exceptional -- while the rest of the community is wonderful and supportive too. Last year, my daughter learned how to pack up her belongings on her own, which might sound small but was actually a meaningful life skill that built independence and confidence. This year, the focus has naturally shifted more toward numbers, letters, and learning how to play and interact with other kids in a thoughtful way. My brother's family had a wonderful experience at City Tree School, so we reached out right away. From the first visit, we felt the warmth and professionalism of the entire team. One of the things we appreciated most was the peace of mind that came from their safety measures. There are two passcode-protected entry doors and a cheerful morning security guard who greeted the children while ensuring a secure environment. The Brightwheel app was another huge plus, letting us receive photos throughout the day so we could share in his learning and milestones. Academically, he made an important leap forward, getting back on track thanks to the dedication and encouragement of his teachers. Small preschool class sizes, around 10:1, meant he received individual attention, and he was celebrated at the Friday award ceremony, something he still talks about months later. Even into the summer, he fondly remembers his preschool teacher. As a downtown urban school, there is no large grassy field, but City Tree makes good use of its space. The rooftop playground is exceptionally safe and well-equipped, with a full basketball court, a separate playground with a play structure, and a first-floor courtyard where kids can ride tricycles and enjoy fresh air. Our son also loved trips to the adjacent garden across from the school, where he learned about plants and beneficial bugs. When foster funding ran out, City Tree stepped in without hesitation and offered a scholarship so he could remain in this amazing environment. This was not just financial aid, it was an act of genuine care that told our family, "We are with you in this." That decision allowed our foster son to keep his friends, maintain his routine, and continue growing in a place where he felt safe and valued. It is a kindness we will never forget. Director Sara Delgado and Academic Director Jennifer Nguyen were present, engaged, and personally invested in our son's success. Sara was there throughout our time at City Tree, regularly processing his growth with my wife and his preschool teacher, offering encouragement, and supporting us through each stage. Jennifer brought thoughtful academic insight, having interacted with our son herself, and was able to speak to his progress with care and specificity. Their leadership creates a school culture where children are known, supported, and inspired to grow. In a time when some approach faith-based schools with caution, City Tree quietly lives out its values through consistent and compassionate action, teaching character through example, not just words. Overall, City Tree was far more than a preschool for us. It was a lifeline of stability, care, and genuine love during a critical chapter in our foster son's life.
