On November 22nd, 2017 I noticed that my furnace was not producing any heat. I called my father seeking a recommendation of a business to look at my furnace. He suggested All Temp Heating and Cooling and he volunteered to contact the business and set up an appointment. A technician (Sean) met my father at my residence on November 22nd at 9:50am.
Sean cleaned the furnace, changed a filter, and replaced a gas valve and spark modular.
When I got home from work on the evening of the 22nd the heater was not working. I called my father to find out if he had any information. He said that he left Sean at my residence and when Sean was done he contacted my father and said he thought he had the furnace working. My father came back over to my home and confirmed that there was no heat. He placed a call to All Temp Heating and Cooling and left a voice mail stating that the furnace was not working - he also mentioned that since the next day was Thanksgiving, the technician could address the issue on the 24th.
On Friday November24th I had not heard anything back regarding the message that my father had left, so at 1:10pm I called and left a voice mail requesting a call back. My father received a call back from Sean and he agreed to meet my father back at my residence. At 3pm I left work to check the progress and I spoke with Sean. He confirmed that the heater was not working, and he now believed that there was a short somewhere and he was working on tracing the origin. He apologized for the amount of time it was taking him to diagnose and fix the problem. He mentioned to my father that he would adjust the bill and not charge all the labor hours since it was taking so long to fix the heater.
When I returned home at 5:30pm the evening of the 24th the heater was working but not as it was before the 22nd of November. I noticed that the amount of heat that was coming out of the furnace did not seem to be as hot as it had been before and I made a mental note to keep an eye on it.
December 1st received bill from All Temp Heating & Cooling in the amount of $671.00. I was a little shocked to see the amount of the bill. At that time, I spoke with my father, my husband and a few other people and we all agreed that the parts that were replaced did not seem to fix the problem. I then decided to call All Temp Heating and Cooling to question the bill.
On December 9th, a $100 payment was made to All Temp Heating and Cooling.
On December 12th I called Ryan at All Temp Heating and Cooling to question the amount of the bill. He was adamant that the parts that were replaced on my heater were justified. I explained that the heat was still not working correctly, and I felt like there was a different issue and it was possible the parts replaced were unnecessary.
On December 15th, my father received a call from Ryan at All Temp Heating and Cooling saying that he received payment of $100.00 and wanted to know where the rest of the money was. My father told him he would check with me and get back to him. When I spoke to my father I again explained my position that the heater was not working properly and that I was not going to make additional payments until I was certain that it was working properly.
On December 22nd I arrived home at 7pm, my heater was not working, and it was -2 degrees outside. At 7:31pm I called Ryan and left a message stating that I had no heat, it was a holiday weekend and the outside temperature was below zero. I asked him to call me back.
I spent some time checking the furnace and heard a repeated clicking noise that I had originally heard on November 22nd. It was apparent that it was the same issue.
On December 26th I called Ryan again and left a voice mail stating I had no heat all weekend and I would appreciate a call back. At 9:19 am I received a call back from Ryan.
After telling him that I still had not heat I explained that the switch that engages the furnace seems to have a short in it. When you wiggle the switch, the furnace will light if I put a piece of tape over it. I suggested this could have been the problem the entire time. He argued with me and said that it was not and that the switch probably just went bad, because of the age of the furnace. Rather than continuing to argue with him I asked him to come take a look at it and he said that I still owed him money. I advised him that I was aware of the bill and that I would pay him when my heater was working correctly. He refused to come look at the furnace until the bill was paid in full. I explained that this is obviously a reoccurring issue from the 1st service call on November 22nd and why would I pay for services that haven't been completed yet? He stated that at the bottom of the invoice it states that the bill needs to be paid in full. As I did not have the invoice in my hand, I thanked him and hung up. I located the invoice and it does NOT state that the bill read more
