I own a thriving residential design company in Ventura and our go-to guy for structural engineering…read moreis Francisco Avila. We must have worked on at least 50+ projects together just over the last two years and he has always come through with excellent work. His prices are very competitive, his timelines for completion are unmatched, and his work is clear and thorough. He's very responsive, pleasant to work with, and helpful with answering questions on our collaborations. As our companies have worked together a lot, we've all developed a great working relationship that has helped our business grow. I highly recommend Francisco to anyone who needs structural engineering services.

Francisco has always been up front with his structural services in regards to site evaluation, engineering options, building conditions, and building dept. codes. For clients, working with someone who's efficient, knowledgable, and brutally honest, is always a breath of fresh air in this industry. Although, not every client is prepared for this. Francisco always has his client's best interest in mind. We've worked on numerous projects together and I have always received excellent service from him. His attention to detail is impeccable, his drawings are meticulously designed, and his knowledge of codes are always very current. Anytime there were any site issues, we evaluated the questionable source with the contractor and client, and resolved the problem as quickly as possible. Bear in mind that all the parties involved in a project have to be engaged as a team in order to establish a proper solution. No job is 100% perfect. I can honestly say that if you're looking for a quality structural engineer, Avila Structural Engineering can provide that service.

After a few letters from the HOA delineating the parking rules for both the driveway and the street we searched for a contractor who could remodel the garage to accommodate our 24-foot Sprinter Van. After researching a few companies in the area, we decided on Atlas Builders and Development, Inc. and we were happy to sign a contract with Jacob Lankri, the owner. The first step was to decide on the basic design package. Once that was settled, we submitted the engineered plans to our HOA. After many months of wrangling with the HOA, Gilah Lankri, the project engineer, was able to produce engineered drawings that met the HOA's aesthetics and expectations. Jacob and Gilah submitted the plans to the city of Oxnard. Unfortunately, it took the city of Oxnard a frustrating 10 months to review and approve the plans. All the while, Atlas Builders and Development, Inc. stayed with us determined to get approval. Once we got approval to begin construction in December 2024, the demolition of the old garage was accomplished quite quickly. Even though we hit a snag regarding the Southern California Gas Company line, we eventually got approval to relocate and replace the line which delayed the project 5 weeks. Finally in March 2025 construction of the new Garage began in earnest. Jacob's team, led by an amazing foreman, Edgar, constructed a new elevated ceiling in the garage with new rafters and support beams as well as new tiled roof. The inside of the garage was completely refinished with drywall, texturing and fresh paint. New and improved lighting was installed in the garage along with assorted electrical outlets. The finishing touches included a new door to the backyard, matching the epoxy surfacing on the garage floor and patching preexisting holes in the walls. Outside, new stucco and siding had to be applied as well as painted. The disconnected solar panels and rain gutters were expertly reinstalled. In addition, an area of the driveway had to have pavers reinstalled looking better than before. I addition to the garage remodel project, Atlas Builders and Development, Inc. procured and installed a new sliding glass door complete with a doggy door for access to the back patio. They also removed a set of windows in the dining room and then procured and installed a beautiful set of French doors. Finally, Atlas Builders and Development, Inc. removed an old single front door and expertly installed a beautiful mahogany double front door. All the finishing details were expertly accomplished.

I had an issue with my old stucco walls, and Jacob from Atlas came out to take a look. Really knowledgeable, straightforward, and professional. I'm still deciding on whether I need to move on my particular repair job, but the visit itself was super worthwhile and I'd definitely call them again.

When you're buying a home, a detailed inspection is something you should never rush and I appreciate how Ron always goes above and beyond to make sure we fully understand what we're walking into. This is our second time using him, and once again he delivered exceptional service. We trust him completely. Highly, highly recommend. Thank you, Ron, for helping us with another home inspection. I like to use local, small businesses whenever possible, and his reviews were excellent. My mistake was not noticing how old they were. He advised it would take 4 to 4 1/2 hours to complete. He was there 5 hours when my realtor had to ask him to leave for the open house that was being held that day. He came back afterward to finish the roof inspection. He failed to complete an inspection for the kitchen due to "time constraints". However, he had time to note that there was a pet door that was a "safety" concern. He also stated that some items were issues that he was clearly wrong about ("minimal" strapping on a water heater that had 2 straps from a newly purchased kit and a third steel strap, replacement windows that he stated were the "builder type from the original construction"). While I appreciate thoroughness, spending time nitpicking every minor detail in a 61 year old house but not completing the full inspection I paid for is not acceptable. He did not get my name right on the report, even though I wrote it for him on the contract I signed. He did not provide the hard copy report that was promised, nor did he email it to me - I had to get it from my realtor. I'm giving him a 3 for thoroughness. If you have unlimited time to wait for this guy to complete the inspection, go for it. He may have been a great inspector in his prime, but personally I think he needs to hang it up and retire already.
