Unlike Kumon and Sylvan, Homework Bound focuses on the homework the children bring home rather than bombarding them with additional work and exercises. The teachers help the students understand their homework first and reach the root of the problem that way. Thus, those who need some extra focus can get that and those who need additional guidance can receive that as well. The program focuses on organization and time-keeping skills that will help the children with their homework and can also be applied elsewhere even after they leave the center. The teachers are great, caring, funny, and also focusead. They are chosen very carefully and put a lot of heart into what they are doing. Mr. Vesagas, the director, is also a very caring man who devotes so much of his time to his program and the children. He is extremely passionate about helping each child individually and always makes sure that they stay on track in terms of finishing their work. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for some extra tutoring for your child. While this isn't a "day-care," it is a great alternative to it. Bring your child home in the evening with their homework finished and enjoy some very much needed family time. :)

She also came home upset about the kids bullying her and the counselors did nothing about it. After care is literally a movie in a storage room - I also walked in on the babysitter yelling at my daughter. Again, livid. The straw that broke the camels back was I forgot to pay for lunch for the week (but thought I did) - they didn't even feed my kid and bill me later (which would've been the humane thing to do). My daughter was bored - Spark is worksheets, and the extra fee for arts and crafts/drawing was them tracing and building crafts we could do at home.

I could barely get uninterrupted time to speak with him. The kids were relentless with their enthusiasm for either completing a "Mission" or asking for a little help with their robots "code". This impressed me even more. My son began his journey the beginning of Summer 2013, attending classes eight times a month. In that short amount of time he has gone from an interest in computers to developing code and furthermore being excited about it. With that being said, I have gone to my sons room on a few Saturday mornings to find my son NOT playing Xbox but instead programming on his laptop telling me "Daddy I almost completed this mission, look at this"! This school also strongly focuses on community, social emotional learning, justice, equality & equity. Students are not only taught to "learn", but also to THINK. There really is a difference. I love that the majority of their education is hands on & project based...not text books, lectures & paperwork all day everyday. I feel like it's so much more impactful. I feel like my son has retained so much more knowledge from this format. I also LOVE that the school is so small. I feel like my child has gotten so much more individualized support & help from everyone (aides all the way to the principal) than he would at a larger school. If you're the kind of parent that only cares about HIGH academic rigor bookwork, busy work, graded papers & test scores...then no, maybe this isn't the school for you. Pro tip: dual language students DO tend to have lower test scores in Elementary School, but catch up by Middle School. That's the whole reason it's a TK-8 school. They're learning in two languages while most only have to worry about one. Is this school perfect? Duh, of course not. Nothing is. However, they are pretty spectacular. :)
