If a student voices a concern to administration that is someone that will actually listen and try to help their hands are slapped for helping and they are either told to "stay in their lane" or they somehow no longer work there. No wonder it takes 6 years for half of their students to graduate with a bachelor's and almost half drop out after 4 years without a degree. They are getting Federal $'s for most all of these students #moneyhustle. Do your own research my stats came from https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges/washburn-university/academic-life/graduation-and-retention/chart-graduation-rate.html. Also, LLC is in serious need of renovation between the black mold and cock roaches but yet they build the new President a new Hollywood house. All under the claim that the tech students built the house and it was funded by donors HA, perhaps those "donors" would have preferred the money go to students to have decent livable housing. RANT OVER but could say so much more!

Having a degree from here I can say it was an average experience. The students and some of the…read morefaculty were great. The university's administration though needs changes. Few of my friends obtained an education worth much other than the degree to put on the wall and check off the requirement of having a degree to apply for a job. While there were a few good professors who challenged us to think and who gave us a real education and not a simple memorize the answers in the book and remember them well enough to fill in a circle on a exam, that was not the case for most of my professors. They had many classes that were so large there was no value of actually going to them other than having to do so often so you had attendance in class to pass. I can recall one large class taught by a professor who could effectively teach a large class, but other than that professor the rest of them had no ability to teach a large class and should never have been put in charge of doing it. There is a great school pride of the football and mens basketball team more so now. Which is great and great, but it does not replace or make up for a lacking educational experience. Don't expect much a degree from here to get you any special consideration over other 4 years colleges. While many large corporations like to recruit from universities like K-State because the students graduate without expecting a lot or feeling entitled to much and have a strong work ethic that is only partially a positive by product of an education here. Students are taught to be yes students and to be good employees, not to be CEOs or entrepreneurs or young men and woman who will significantly impact our nation or the world. You would also expect a University in the heartland of America to be more conservative and it is more so than KU a few hours away, but the student body of which is more conservative is not represented accordingly by the University faculty and administration of which is more liberal in general. If you send your kids here expect that bias to attempt to influence your kids from a liberal bias in many areas. The grants and scholarships are not readily available to every student. If you have an area you excel in you may get a scholarship for it or in athletics or if you have a low family income or are a minority you may qualify for one. If your family is middle class and you are not a minority and do not excel in any area then don't expect any scholarships or grants. Although, you can rest assured the Alumni Association will track you down and mail you and call you in attempts to get donations for the university. The parking may have improved since I was a student there, but not likely by much. You will want to live close enough to campus to walk to class, don't make the mistake of living far away and having to drive to class. It's not worth the hassle and I found as I lived closer to the university the students I lived near tended to have a better focus and direction in life of which was refreshing. If you are a self driven individual and have talents and abilities to excel in areas it is also hard to do so here as most of the systems in place are setup to move you along at the pace the university has established. There is a semi separation of the student body in greek and non greek and it is semi click like. Not really one way, but both ways. The greek system does tend to have more influence simply because they are organized and non greek students are not organized and as such are not likely to ever have more influence than the greek students. Either student body group can be positive or negative. The greek system in the wrong house or the wrong group can be destructive to every area of your life, but in the right house and the right group of peers be positive and life changing in every area. This is the same for the non greek students too though, and is best explain in that you become most like those you closely associate with and spend time with. If you want to be someone who someone of good character and quality will want to marry one day and start a family with and you want to have a successful career then associate with the people with similar goals and desires. I saw in enough peers around me the effects of being around the wrong people in college and contrary to the popular idea that you can do what ever you want in college and change once you leave to start a family and be successful in life - that is not what I observed from those I knew and watched. Maybe in 10 years after college you can recover and change, but the path you put yourself on in college is very hard to magically change once you are out of college and in the real world. That is my advice from my time at K-State. I have my degree from there and I have it framed and I am glad I put in my 4 years to get it. It has however sit on my wall in a framed glass case and that is all I have found use for it.
