I have been going to Allendale Veterinary Hospital since Dr. Gabriel Stein moved from another animal hospital to this one. I must say, when he was at his other location it was more convenient for us as it was closer to our house and I was skeptical on getting familiar with new faces since we were such long standing patients at the other facility. But I must say it was a great change! First off, the building is in good shape, the entire hospital is always clean, and the staff is super nice, accommodating, and friendly whenever you come in. Michaella, and Jackie are definitely names to remember as they are awesome people! Michaella always knows how to give you a good laugh and is extremely helpful in every situation. Truthfully, all the girls that work here are great and a special shout out to one of the techs, Brianna she was SO helpful through my awful experience with fleas!!! She is so educated and always knows what she is talking about - super smart! Parking is eh...not the best but you can't get everything right? Dr. Stein is the best vet around and I can assure you there is nobody better. The truth of the matter is people want doctors that actually give a crap about our dogs and form bonds with them to show us just how much they really care! Dr. Stein has cared for my Mother's dogs as well over the many years of knowing him. He has spayed/neutered our dogs, performed many surgeries on our dogs, and dealt with the craziness for a long time now! My pumpkins love Dr. Stein and I know this as evidenced by the last time Dr. Stein was on vacation, I had no choice but to bring them to another doctor in the hospital. Now, I am not saying this doctor wasn't a good doctor because he totally was (forgive me I forget his name). But my Bruce was visibly nervous by shaking and trying to hide near me. He has NEVER done that with Stein and if he did that would mean something is seriously wrong. I can't stress it to people enough that Dr. Stein is the GO TO doctor if you want answers, compassion, trust, and excellent care. He is definitely a jokester (maybe not at first) but he will show you that side in time! Be aware, if you want to make an appointment with Dr. Stein you best do it in advance because he is like a show....always booked out! Overall, I couldn't have found a better place to bring my babies to. Everyone gives them the attention they look for and the care I expect them to receive. If you know me, you know I am crazy about my fur babies! I swear when I call the hospital, the girls are probably like "Oh god, what does she want now?" Haha! This place could be my second home that is how much we come here! I would never bring my money else where except here and if you need an animal hospital this is the one to go! read more

This is a place that should be amazing... but it's not. I was charged, overcharged, gouged for a simple check up with my puppy. He apparently has a common parasite. $500 in two days? The pre-charged me for his next appointment. Note they also charge you per pill- flea and tick $41.32 I am allowed one pill per month? Crazy, This is probably illegal mostly just gross. read more

The way they approached my 120 pound dog that was new to them, said EVERYTHING to me. My previous vet always approaches my dog quickly and hastily (to check his ears etc) and created such fear in my dog. They always try to muzzle him just because of his size and spook him - any time he had an ear issue they'd just prescribe a random medication to see if it worked because they didn't want to take the time to check his ears. After 4 years, they NEVER gained his trust. The tech and vet at Allendale sat on the floor with my dog, pet him, and took their time. They answered EVERY single one of my questions and didn't rush out the door like other vets do. My dog sat through the entire exam, let them check his ears etc without becoming stressed. They did not force a single test, medication, or procedure on me but instead, let me know my options and priced everything out. I ended up opting for a couple of tests over things I was concerned about that my previous vet never offered and to be quite frank, really brushed off. They took my dog (who is reactive to other dogs) into the back and I was concerned. I learned they are a fear free facility - they take their time and don't wrestle and rush your dog to get stuff done. My dog was out in 3 minutes or less, no bandages, no struggle. There were no surprise fees or costs and they followed up the following day to see how he was feeling. Like every pet owner, I want the absolute best for my dog. I want him to live a long happy healthy life and I finally feel like a vet took me seriously and was there to HELP. Go here. read more

I was on the way to work last Spring, with a sick dog, and not sure where to turn, who to call, when I recalled that a vet (whom had practiced with my late Vet) works at Allendale Vet Hospital on the weekend. I took the chance that he may be working that Sunday. Well, there are no coincidences. The staff who we met were professional, prompt,and your Vet was as usual very kind, and saw her almost immediately. The dog got better in a weeks time. The practice has been very patient, and kind. Dr. Cerf is on target with his diagnostic skills, and especially skilled in treating Aussies. Thank you. I only wished we lived closer than an hour away. read more

I am not one to publicly talk bad about a business but I don't want this to happen to anyone else's pets! I have been going to allendale vet since I got my dog 7 years ago. I have not had any previous issues with them but did notice turn over of some of the good vets throughout the years. I brought my dog in for a dental cleaning and to remove a small lump on his back and his paw. The vet never came and spoke with me before the procedure and they had a vet tech take down the information about what they were operating on. I clearly told them where the lumps were and the vet tech was supposed to communicate this to the vet operating on him. This unfortunately did not happen. They cut into my dog's chest without my consent and now he has a large incision on his chest and they never removed the lump on his back. When I asked about it when I picked him up it was vet techs saying they didn't know why the back lump wasn't removed and the vet never came out to speak with me. They were trying to hide their error. My husband and I went into the office the day after it happened to figure out what went wrong and how this could happen and they had no explanation and said they'll retrain their staff. The vet said it was her mistake and she should have confirmed the lump locations. The vet was completely negligent. I'm very disappointed with allendale vet and how they could just cut into a dog without knowing where they should be cutting and their non existent communication. I also asked to be reimbursed since I do not believe I should have to pay for the surgery they butchered and they will only give me $1k of the $5k I paid. I would never recommend them to anyone in the future. My poor dog should not have gone through that and had to be on a lot of pain medication for the unnecessary operation. read more

Stay far, far away from this place. Misdiagnosed my dog for literal months. Wasn't until my dogs condition got so so bad that I had to get to googling and figure out exactly what was wrong with my pup myself. Needless to say I took my dog to a different doctor at a totally different clinic and I was right. Countless visits for the same issue only to be misdiagnosed, hundreds and hundreds of dollars later, months of wasted time, and not to mention they put my dog on daily (expensive!!) pills that she DID NOT need to be on. The worst part of the story is that my dogs skin disease now spread to me, and being that Im now pregnant and have to now treat myself with all of these crazy medications that could potentially pose threat to my baby. The doctor (not going to name names, i'm not that mean) could have caught this wayyyyyyy before my pregnancy. Couldn't be any more dissapointed. Once a loyal customer/patient and will not be returning, simply from mistrust at this point. read more

We have been going to Allendale Veterinary hospital for several years with a few animals. Our rescue dog Tucker, a mixed breed labrador and weimaraner, 4 years old recently was diagnosed with a neurological disorder that made him behave in an aggressive manner. His condition continued to deteriorate and we had several close calls with family members. We exhausted all of our options and eventually made the decision to euthanize him. The entire staff at Allendale hospital did an outstanding job throughout our ordeal. We put Tucker down this past Sunday and the staff again supported us and made this horrible experience easier to deal with. I want to thank them for their compassion, professionalism and caring during this process. My family has used Allendale Vet for many years. Dr. Welsch and her vet assistants are very nice, patient, and knowledgeable. They are also very gentle with my pup and always makes him feel like he's family there. I wish I could give them a 5 star, but I must be frank that their receptionist doesn't appear nice every visit. I found she is nicer to certain customers. I'm unsure why because we are always friendly around her. First impression is always a plus for me, so to notice this every time is a bit unfair. Dr Welch is pretty good. Used her for a number of years. Didn't have a lot of issues except when my dog was being tested for what turned out to be diabetes. Dr. Welch forgot to call us to let us know. Found out by accident. We were very dissappointed about that lack of follow up. If you wind up having to deal with her partner Dr. Gess beware. She's not very good, again beware. Ask tons of questions, don't accept situations at face value and plan on proposing other options/choices for treatments or diagnostic procedures. Allendale Veterinary is an outstanding practice. My 3 little ones are like my own babies and when I take them to see Dr. W it is like having your own family member take care of them. She is kind, considerate and very knowledgeable. Dr. Izar is the other doctor on staff. I have used her a couple of times when Dr. W was not available and I have found her to be also wonderful. Her staff is so caring and gentle with my babies that I always feel so conformable leaving them in their care. Wow! This was my first visit to Allendale Veterinary Hospital because a favorite vet of mine (Dr. Stein) had left Emerson to come here. While he wasn't available to see my Newfie Izzy, Dr. Welsch was and I am now completely "sold" on this practice. From check in to check out, the entire staff was totally professional, friendly, and caring. Nikki was outstanding at the in-take of my nervous Newf who used to be muzzled at other vets' offices. My family has been going to Dr. Welsch since our first dog, over 20 years ago, and before she had her own practice. We followed her to her practice, Allendale Animal Hospital. She is a very friendly woman, with great bedside manner but still maintains professionalism when it is needed. She snuggles with and takes time with each pet she sees, making sure they are as comfortable as possible before beginning her examination. All of my dogs have loved her and never hated or feared going. Dr. Welsch is quite knowledgeable about exotics and their common ailments and medical needs. She treated my rabbits and guinea pigs with a competent and caring hand. I now live in the South Eastern part of the county, and going to this office is much less convenient than it was when I lived nearby, but I continue to go there because I know my animals will get the best care and are treated with kindness, not as another number in the charts. I am sorry to say that I can no longer recommend AAH. I have used this establishment for some years with satisfaction, however, they seem to have recently developed problems being clear about my dogs' records. I have three dogs so it can be a bit complicated, but we have now driven back and forth several times for tests and vaccines that should have been done at previous visits this spring. This seems to be due to a poorly managed computer system. Right now, one of my dogs has not received an influenza vaccine due to a complete miscommunication of information. When I tried to discuss this, I was told that they will be sending me my records! (Later the same day... the office manager just hung up on me as they no longer want to answer questions! It's outrageous behavior from a professional establishment. I'm being far more considerate in this review than they have been of a long-time customer.) read more

Excellent!!!!! Hands down the BEST!!!!!!!!Veterinary Hospital. Bailey has been going to Dr Welch and Dr Izar for three years now and I have finally found a place where she is well taken care of, with staff that has by far the highest level of care around. There staff is excellent and always takes care of Bailey and most of all makes her feel comfortable. There just a phone call away and are always there for you in emergencies. I would highly recommend the hospital. After 5 years of trying to find a hospital that Bailey is well taken care of and is not scared to walk Into, I have finally found a home for my Bailey. She loves to go now because the staff here is kind,caring and are by far the best in the industry.
