I don't ever leave negative reviews, but I feel like I have to share this experience. What was a simple $99 fix turned into a flooded home for my grandma -- and an almost $500 bill thanks to a $300+ "after 4pm" fee. Manager Kane was unhelpful, rude, and unresponsive -- ignoring emails, withholding insurance info, and rarely returning calls. The job left one toilet scratched and the other non-working. Kane promised to send a plumber to fix these, then canceled 15 minutes before arrival, claiming scratches from their tools were preexisting and never following up on the broken toilet. He agreed to pay for a new carpet pad and has not responded to any calls or emails since. I lost multiple workdays dealing with the flooding, and my grandma's home is still damaged: ruined flooring, a scratched toilet, and one that doesn't work. After more than a decade as a customer, it's clear they don't take care of local families - the rest of the staff seemed empathetic, but Kanealii showed none and did the bare minimum. read more

Back a few years ago they put an expansion tank on the wrong water line of my heater. I was very ignorant of plumbing things and when that expansion tank blew I just thought it was because it was due to the unit I had. Well I found out that they put the tank on wrong water line on my heater and now they just ignore my request for them to confirm this and compensate me back for what I paid them. No phone calls back. Email ignored. Totally a non-local friendly company. Woman manager told me they would get back to me but nothing. They do not take responsibility for their mistakes and refuse compensation. I hired Allen's Plumbing because I had friends who worked for them in the past and I wanted to give business to a longtime local company. I hoped for competent workmanship and a reasonable price for replacing an older solar water heater with a new electric water heater. I was also glad that I even found a 100 dollar off coupon for a new water heater that Allen's Plumbing offered on their website. Scheduling was an issue as I was forwarded from an Oahu call center to a Maui local scheduling number and was forwarded again to a department that would need to estimate my job. During each of these stages I thought communication was adequate and I was told my online coupon for $100 would be honored. Work was planned and completed on the date it was scheduled. No real surprises. I did ask and paid extra for installing 2 owner provided fixtures. These were installed and worked without issue. A day or so after I was charged for the initial job and extra work I asked for and was emailed a receipt. When I checked on the receipt I found I was not credited for the $100 coupon. I then called the same Maui local scheduling number and asked about the coupon. I was told they did not recall accepting the coupon for this job. I gave them a few weeks to rectify this issue as a business that should obviously honor coupons they offer and even accepted prior to starting a job. This has not happened. I can't give a high rating because of this but if you want to continue to hire them to do competent workmanship then you will get what you pay for. A pleasant surprise today. After a few weeks of no response to an issue on coupon for $100, I received a response from the owner. He seemed very straightforward and addressed the issue with a refund. I understand businesses can get busy and may not always get back to you but it was nice that the owner stepped up to clear this up once he was aware of it. Customer service and honest business practices are still alive and well. This gives me confidence to revise my review and recommend this business for this small gesture that really tells a lot about the plumbing company you may hire in the future. read more

I made an appointment for services through Yelp. Plumber was No Show. Fifteen minutes after appointment time, I called to find out that Allens had no record of appointment or call. I told them that I had a string of emails and texts regarding the appointment. However, there was no record of the emails or texts. I suggest you NOT use Yelp to make appointments. Matt was competent, efficient, and kind! He also did the job for about a third of what other plumbers had quoted! Completely fixed! Had discussed this shower with three other wokmen (one plumber and two handymen). All three had said it would cost thousands. Two had said the tile would need to be removed, and i would have to shop online for compatible tile and hire someone else to do the tile work. A third had suggested cutting a hole through the exterior wall and placing an access panel. I wanted to be sure a job like that would be done correctly, so I decided to spring for a quote from Allen's. I am SO glad i did! Matt immediately saw the problem. It was completely fixed wthin an hour, with zero damage to tiles or outer wall, and for a third of what anyone else had quoted. Have used Allen's Plumbing for important jobs over decades, and their work has consistently been excellent. Once (years ago) i even discovered that an Allen's plumber had quietly fixed a cabinet door that had come loose from its hinge without even mentioning it! Maybe they aren't always the cheapest option, but they are reliable, competent, and honest (and kind). They will do the job correctly and they will not rip you off. They even clean up after themselves. 100% satisfied and impressed. 5 stars and enthusiastic recommendation both for Matt specifically and for Allen's Plumbing in general. read more

We had no hot water. Paid emergency fee of $300 because it was after 5pm. Diagnostic/repair/parts fee was $276 (rod and thermostat replaced). Two hours after repair, no hot water. That was a temporary fix as recommendation was to replace water heater tank (prelim quote $4500 for tank, install, haul away). In addition, Plumber recommended replacing entire solar heating system. That was never checked over. Received quote next day for $12K. Had another Plumber come out. He found thermostat wire incorrectly connected. He also troubleshot our solar water system and replaced a faulty water pump. Once he was done, we had hot water. Allens Plumbing took advantage of the situation. Beware! read more

In the company's defense we did not hire Allen's plumbing so we can't say exactly what happened. However, we bought a property that Allen's had worked on by evidence of the promo cap with the phone number and name. Now the toilet takes 3 flushes for an average "evacuation" and the sound of the flush is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Will probably replace the entire toliet. I get water conseevation but it doesn't save anything if every flush requires three rounds. read more

We've had four plumbers from Allen's do work at our house the last 6 years. From removing & setting a new tub & shower valve to simple drain line repair. All have been friendly, efficient, clean & neat. They do the little extras like checking nearby lines even if not in the immediate area of work for leaks & trouble spots. They give options if there are any (some repairs are straightforward). I've never encountered cheap plumbing services, & we pay for Allen's. However I haven't had to pay twice for the thing or call them back yet *knock wood*. Peace of mind is very high value to me. Whatever recruiting practices they use, everyone else should do that. read more

Don't waste your time calling Allen's Plumbing. I called their office at 8:45 am to put in a service call. At 9:45 am, I received a call from their office and was informed that a service tech would be there after noon. At 3:00 pm, I called their office because no one still hadn't come by. I spoke to a woman who was surprised when she checked her log and commented, "I remember taking your call- not sure what happened when I dispatched the call. I will have a service tech call you in 5 minutes." I waited 15 minutes before I called back. At 3:15 pm, a gentleman answered, and I asked when someone would be coming. He then said, let me check if any service techs are available- I will call you by 3:45 pm. I received a call at 3:45 pm only to be told that no techs were available. The gentleman had the nerve to say to me that if we wanted to pay the emergency call fee of $325.00, they could have someone here after 4:00 pm, or someone could be by tomorrow at 8:30 am. I've been told that Allen's Plumbing has a reputation for doing that, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I wasted my whole day waiting for them when I could have called a more responsive and reliable company. read more

Hired Allens to get water lines put in for a dishwasher and water dispenser/icemaker on fridge and to install new sink and garbage disposal. I had called around for some quote comparisons and ended up going with Allens due to their experience, reasonable price and timeline. Their quote was detailed and emailed over right away so we could see all the itemized costs. We had a slim window of time between having cabinets installed to counters and appliances coming in and Allen was able to accommodate us without breaking the bank. The technician that came in was on time, friendly, professional and did clean work. It was an all day job, but we were happy with the results. read more

I will be removing my previous 5 star review in order to leave an honest review on my most recent experience, which was completely different. From the beginning, this interaction was unprofessional and uncoordinated. I will start by saying off the bat, Marissa in the office was rude over the phone for no apparent reason, because, per her "explanation", I should know to start a phone conversation with my address instead of a simple "Hi, I'm returning a call to schedule a service". I actually had to hang up and call back, hoping I would get someone else due to her attitude. From there, it didn't get much better. I was promised a call back by Isaiah, as I was informed there would "probably" be an employee coming to the property within the hour. I needed confirmation of this so I could inform my tenant of the timeline. I called back after 25 minutes and was told Marissa was still on the phone, and was provided no further updates. Next thing I know, the employee is on my property, without me even having had received confirmation or any call back with an update. While I am generally grateful for quick response times, this, to me, was unprofessional. The gentleman who came to inspect the problem has been to the property before. For this reason, I know he is familiar with where the inlet to the main drain line is. For some reason, he decided to pull the toilet to camera down into the drain line ($115 to pull the toilet alone) instead of the obvious starting point of using the inlet located outside the home. I only realized this later while being charged, as I didn't expect to have to babysit a professional who is familiar with the property. My total charges were $484 for yesterday's visit. Further, I was quoted $4000 to fix the problem that he diagnosed. When I begrudgingly accepted this as fact, the next figure he showed me on paper was $4300. Interesting. After that, he pulled up a "signature" page on his iPad and asked me to sign without explaining anything about what I was signing. Upon my asking, he explained this was to "authorize" the work he already completed. Needless to say, I cancelled any further services from this company. I called another local plumbing company that has some aloha, who came out and quoted me $2200 to do the same job. I will update this if the completed job ends up being anywhere remotely close to the $4300 Allen's quoted. In all, I feel this company made a great first impression the first time I used them, followed up with a shady second job while trying to take advantage of a single female with limited plumbing knowledge. I highly recommend taking your business elsewhere unless you want to feel like you're being scammed. If you don't take any other advice, please consider at least getting a second opinion other than the one provided by Allen's. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because Isaiah in the office is so patient and kind, and that sort of customer service over the phone is hard to find these days. read more

We had issues again with our kitchen drain clogging and this time, decided to call Allen's Plumbing. I love that they work on Sunday's too!! They are who will will use from now on!! Great customer service from the start! From calling in the trouble, to receiving a call back with an ETA, and then calling the day of service to remind us. Wonderful!! I recently had my back-flow preventer valve replaced by Allen's plumbing. They were fast and courteous. The scheduler and the installer were both very polite and professional. With that said, I do have to say that I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM! I was quoted between $300-400 depending on the difficulty. I already had the brand-new valve. So that quote was basically labor only. I sat with the technician as he performed the repair. It took him less than 30 minutes. Two cuts, a little pipe tape, and some unions and nuts. After it was over, I was billed for $450! 30 minutes of work for $450 with no difficulty encountered! To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Keep in mind that I already had the valve. The parts required were two unions, two 90-degree fittings, and two closed nipples. NO SOLDERING involved and I was charged $450! It is never a good feeling when you feel like you were just taken by someone, I felt robbed. I don't know of any work for less than 30 minutes where someone would feel good about charging someone else $450. Service was ok, but they will rip you off. DO NOT call Allen's plumbing. You have been warned. read more

Called Allen's Plumbing three times for service on our solar water heater since they were the ones who installed it back in '04. The first call was for general maintenance. The second call was for general maintenance again and replacement of the anode rod. In order to do this, the entire tank has to be drained. I made sure that the tech didn't drain it onto our lawn, so we ran a hose from the heater to a buffer zone between our lot and the golf course out back. All went well. The third call came only a month later because the overflow pipe was dripping. Ended up changing the TPR (temperature pressure relief) valve. The tank had to be emptied out again but I wasn't aware of this. This was the same tech that came a month ago, but he ended up draining it on our lawn. Scalding hot water on your grass results in a huge dead patch, about 3' in diameter. SMH. At least the job got done, and grass grows back. SERVICE: The office staff is great. Very courteous and professional. The techs were friendly and did a great job, sans the great burn of 2012, but worked neatly and cleaned up after themselves. The techs even put on shoe covers when coming into your house, a very nice touch especially in Hawaii. OVERALL: Pricing is comparable to other commercial plumbers. read more

We recently had a visit from Matt Lind, a plumber with Allen's Plumbing,. He was great! Not only is he an expert "toilet master" but is very personable as well. We had a problem with a stubborn fill valve and it turns out that it might have been necessary to dismantle the entire toilet in order to access it for replacement but Matt was able to create another solution which works expertly and saved us a lot of money. Allen's Plumbing is usually my go to since I've had great experiences. I realize with all the craziness going in things may get disrupted, but they fell very short on communication on my latest project. I called to request a quote which I was told I would get an email. While on the phone I asked to go ahead anyway to schedule me on my next day off. I was told they will get me the quote first and then schedule. Fine. I waited for two days and called back to check. I was told the quote wasn't done but he could tell it was being worked in and I should get it by the next day. Next day comes and no quote. I call again. They see again that it is being worked on and was assured he would but a note to rush it and to expect a quote the next day. Next day come with no quote. I call back AGAIN and told them look, I just need you guys to come out in my next day off. I get a call back from the scheduler who says they can come out on the day AFTER my day off since they are at that point fully booked. So clearly I didn't need to wait to get a quote before I got scheduled, and when they decided to schedule me, it not for the day that I requested a whole week before. I ended up calling All Aloha Plumbing who got me scheduled two days after I requested service, and even though they couldn't make it as scheduled, they called me and asked if I could reschedule for the following morning. They just completed the job and I have to say they did an amazing job. read more

We've used Allen's Plumbing on and off for over 20 years and they have always provided excellent service. Most recently they were available for help with a clogged kitchen pipe on a weekend. Our plumber Justin was knowledgeable, personable, and skilled--really a pleasure to work with. He suggested replacing our leaking 30-year old garbage disposal, picked up the unit, and installed it a few days later. In both instances there was something tricky to address, and he made it work both times. The technician Jeremiah explained everything that was going to be going on. At one point, we realized there was no clear path to a sewer line so he came up with a plan to tap into a nearby toilet sewer line which saved otherwise digging underground to locate the clean out line. Although this changed my pricing it was much cheaper than the other alternative. Jeremiah came back the next day to complete the job with a better way for the drain line to access the sewer line. i've always used allans plumbing. they came out to fix my garbage disposal (grdgrl dropped a glass and i didn't check) for $60 fee which would be waved if he could fix it but they charge $170 even if it can't be fixed.. then he said to replace the disposal will cost $650!!!! i paid the $60 and sent him on his way. this will teach me to shop around.. read more

The staff answering the phone was nice and the tech who came out was also nice. Unfortunately, being nice didn't fix my plumbing problems. The tech walked around my house with me as I was explaining my problem. He didn't have an idea what was causing the problem. He called his supervisor a couple of times, who apparently has over 20yrs experience, but he didn't provide any additional insight to my problem. The tech went around my house and opened a few fixtures and said "yeah you have a problem, but not sure what is causing it." He didn't offer to follow up or provide any suggestions other than "we can try this, it'll be $800 but not sure what that will prove". I told him if he's not confident, then don't do it. Then he said ok if nothing else, that will be $128?? For what!? I could understand a minimal dispatch charge. I called another longtime local plumbing company. They came out twice to investigate the problem. They still haven't figured it out and said they'll continue to research what might be causing it. THE DIFFERENCE IS, THEY HAVEN'T CHARGED ME A PENNY. THEY SAID IT WOULDN'T BE FAIR TO CHARGE YOU SINCE WE DIDN'T FIGURE IT OUT YET. Call several different plumbing companies before using this one. read more
