I purchased 4 new aluminum alloy rims, exact replacements, new from a Toyota dealer. Shipping weight 22 lbs including cardboard carton. This weight is printed on the upper right corner of the shipping label from Toyota (see picture). That would add up to no less than 86 lbs. for the 4 rims alone. I went to Allied with my 4 old Toyota aluminum alloy rims, exact same part, to sell for scrap. They said to put them on a cart and bring it to the scale. I pushed the cart with rims onto the scale platform. The scale readout was a big circular dial with small numbers, hard to read, I did not see the number. The attendant said that he subtracted the weight of the cart from the readout. He said the cart weighs 75 lbs. and pointed to a "75" written on the bottom corner in black magic marker. The weight he wrote up on my receipt (see picture) was only 72 lbs. At 58 cents per lb., I was short-weighted 14 lbs. totaling $8.12. Not a tragedy for me but a worthwhile lesson for others. I would suggest, before you load your scrap, first take to the scale an object you know the weight of. Make sure you can read the dial numbers and weigh your object and see that it is correct. Then get your cart and weigh it empty so you can see that it weighs the amount that they claim. read more
