This is a small regional bank with a small-minded mentality to match. My history here began with Missy Clack at the Anchorage branch. She was the ultimate professional--someone who provided genuine care and talked me into converting my accounts to Stock Yards when they took over Commonwealth. But the moment Missy went on medical leave, the facade of a "community bank" crumbled. Her assistant, Jennifer Sparks, was placed in a position she was clearly untrained and ill-prepared for. She botched every aspect of my accounts and, instead of taking accountability, chose to complain about me to her superiors to cover her own tracks. The result was catastrophic: Sudden Closure: My accounts were closed with no warning. Frozen Assets: My funds were seized, wreaking havoc on my business and personal life during a critical time for my Foundation. The Silent Treatment: I was given names and numbers of "contacts" who only ever provided answering machines. I left countless messages that went ignored. Executive Negligence: I wrote several formal letters to the Board Executives. To this day, I have received zero response. It is shocking that an organization can be so cruel and non-responsive to a client housing significant assets. They hide behind their "local" label, but their behavior is anything but neighborly. They had the lowest rate, no closing fees, no weird built in early payment hidden fees -- they were straightforward and extremely easy to work with. They walked me through the process of notifying my current lender and made the transition honestly as easy as possible. They also helped be take my 30-year loan to a 15-year with a 3% interest rate drop. I was an extremely happy camper. I do my banking online. At first, I used their website for the payment each month -- but their website is extremely difficult (and frustrating) to navigate. So instead, I use bill pay through my primary bank and almost never need to deal with SYB or a branch directly. This week I needed some information about my account. I hadn't logged on in over 6-months and apparently it's a security feature for them to deactivate unused accounts after 6 months .. so I couldn't log on. The website was not helpful is telling me any of this. I emailed SYB and got prompt return phone call just after 9a the next morning. They explained what happened, said I could create a new account, no problem. --except, it was a problem, because their anti-user-friendly website would not let me create a new one. This brought me into the branch today. It's a rainy Saturday; they close at noon. My wait for a teller was about 7 minutes, but once It was my turn, Sophie was extremely polite, friendly and helpful. She helped me with step one of my dilemma then directed me to Lisa who literally stopped what she was doing to help me. It was as after noon when I left, but they didn't seem to be bothered by this. My entire visit was maybe 20 minutes and I left a happy camper. I was frustrated I couldn't do my adulting things over the phone or online, but if I had to have a face-to-face real person experience with SYB, I would choose this branch and Sophie and Lisa. Stars -- this branch: location, service, people, friendliness (5 stars!) SYB's website -- 2 stars. So confusing, really frustrating, gives users the run-around and unclear instructions on how to get online help if you need it.
