The Buckstaff was built in 1912, and once you enter the locker room you step back in time over 100 years. It's one of 2 operating bathhouses on Bathhouse Row, but the only one that maintains the original feel. The treatments and fixtures are the same as they have been for the last century. I was fortunate to have Ricky as my attendant, who has worked at Buckstaff since 1977. He made sure I had a great experience! I also had an excellent massage from Ryan. I can't recommend Buckstaff Bathhouse enough. Step back in time and enjoy the thermal waters of Hot Springs!

So not sure what happened there. It was an old black gentleman that helped. He laid on a table with a dry sheet and nothing else. I did the same but it was hot towels. This was our experience with the Quapaw bathhouse. We first tried to book online. Since I wanted to book both my husband and I, it was suggested that we call, so we did before our visit to Hot Springs. I expected to talk to a receptionist since we called in the afternoon during their regular business hours, but we got their voicemail. I left a message to please call us back so that we could book an appointment during our stay. After not receiving a call back after a day or two, we decided to visit in person once we got there. We waited in line at the Quapaw. I was excited because it looked so nice and relaxing inside. There were about 5 receptionists at a long counter, and after about 10 minutes one pulled us aside. We asked if there was any availability in the next couple of days while we were there. The receptionist looked iffy at first, then pulled up the information I had added when I tried to book online and told us she had a 2:30 open and blocked it off in their system for my husband and I. She was explaining to us who our masseuses would be, adding the kind of aromatherapy we liked, and that we needed to arrive ahead of time. As she went to swipe our credit card, she and another staff member started talking about our appointment. Apparently a staff member named J.J. overruled the time our receptionist blocked off for us seconds earlier and booked another couple that walked in behind us, but I guess J.J. was a faster typer? Maybe? We still don't know, because once she realized it was double booked we were told too bad, that's all they had, and nothing could be done about it. My husband and I looked at each other puzzled, like "what just happened"? So in essence, they booked us then canceled us. I even got a welcome email, then a cancellation email that I'm still scratching my head over. After pretty much saying "sorry, too bad" in front of the other people waiting in line, they all went back signing people in like we weren't even there. It was really awkward and not to mention a big disappointing let down. My husband and I left, stunned as to having an appointment, then not, not to mention the treatment after...and not really knowing what to do about it After talking about it, we decided to call to speak to someone about our experience, since maybe that was just a bad day. I've called, I've emailed, and I still haven't received anything back, not even an I'm sorry. My husband and I are on our way home, and we still haven't heard back from anyone at the Quapaw. I even waited to post this hoping we might. We got to do some really fun things in Hot Springs. The Quapaw experience or in a way "no" experience left us kind of down and not to mention kind of angry. Just so weird. I expected so much more than "sorry, bye", but that's exactly what it was. Fair warning to all.

They were taking appointments only for the day rather than being open normal business hours. The receptionist, Courtney, was very friendly and courteous. I wish I could say the same for the two estheticians who provided services to us. My service provider started complaining almost immediately. Her daughter was waiting outside for her to wrap up since we were "the only appointments they had today." My express facial lasted just 20 minutes and included an exfoliation, masque, and serum application. She did not explain any of the products she was applying nor make recommendations for my skin. What really bothered me is that she just sat there while the exfoliant cream and masque were working, respectively. For $50, I am used to receiving a shoulder, hand, or foot rub while the products are doing their magic. This was my boyfriend's mother's first facial, and I have to say I was embarrassed that this was the "treat" I was giving her. She was moderately more impressed with her service provider, who provided a 25-minute facial and included a lip scrub. We were given express pedicures ($35) without double-checking if that's what we wanted. The view and massage chairs are quite nice in the pedicure room on the 3rd floor. However, if you have mobility issues, do not get your nails done here. The 3rd floor is only accessible via a very narrow circular staircase. The complaining during the quick and dirty pedicures (cuticle work, lotion rub, and polish change) was non-stop. First, they were complaining about working on the holiday and that they almost hadn't answered the phone to come in. Then, they complained about their work schedules and finally about cosmetology school. It turned what could've been a fun bonding experience for me and my boyfriend's mom into an exhausting (though short) experience to be overcome. Spending $170 total (before tip) for 2 express pedicures and 2 express facials with this kind of service was really awful. I will not be returning, and I won't be buying gift certificates for my boyfriend's family, who is local.

The two masseurs were professional and friendly. Tequila and Tom did a great job. I had a prenatal massage and my husband had a swedish massage.
