Located in the middle of bathhouse row, Buckstaff is the longest running (and one of the only true) bathhouse. We went downtown to attend the bathtub races and horrendous weather rolled in, so my husband and I opted to hop in and take advantage of the services. There is limited on street parking and public lots available. We choose the Deluxe Bathing Package, because you only live once! We both opted for the 'au naturel' experience (swimsuits are not required). Reservations are not available, walk-in services only. They recommended coming first thing in the morning for ease. Men are on one floor, attended by men. Women are on another floor, attended by women. You start in the dressing room, where you remove your clothing (into lockers) or put on your swimsuit. The attendant wraps you in a sheet and gets you seated until your bath host is available. You are chauffeured into a small private area for your bath. Using the hot springs water, you soak in the tub (20-30 min). Your host will come in for a quick loofa scrub (based on package). Next I was taken for a sitz bath, a steam cabinet, and hot pack rest. Latoya is a phenomenal host, truly the best. I was then taken for a massage where Rhonda gave a quick but effective 20 min massage. Finally, you are taken back to the lockers to change and then for a parrafin hand wax. I would say, be open to the experience. I am a fairly modest person, but this was such a lovely experience. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. It took about an hour and a half for the full package, but it was totally worth every moment and penny. Note- if you are not good with heat (overheating), this is not your ideal activity. Bath is about 104 degrees and the hot packs are a fiery 143 degrees (right from the hot spring).

While visiting hot springs, my husband and I stopped into the Buckstaff Bathhouse. We opted for the deluxe package. Mattie and Cooper attended to me while I was there. I can't speak highly enough. I love the historical vibe as well. I would definitely go back!

Amazing visit! The best service I've had the several times I've been and Latoya was a rockstar attendant! Had the thermal bath, hot towels, steam cabinet, sits bath, and a Swedish massage!! Well worth $100!! Don't skip out on this hidden gem! Historical vibe with a pampering service! 10/10 highly recommend!! Tip: if you're modest, bring a bathing suit! They don't care either way!

A pretty cool experience. My first time in Hot Springs and first time at a bathhouse like this. Sheet wrap and locker key. Deluxe package, soak in hot springs mineral water , sitz bath, steam box, hot towel wrap, massage, parifin hand wax.

The best advice I can give you is to go first thing in the morning! We didn't wait long that way but you will have to have patience with everything else. The girls work so hard in such hot conditions so they are moving as fast as they can. We enjoyed every minute of it & everyone was friendly especially Shadow that girl kept a smile on her face the whole time she was so busy! My massage therapist I think her name was Dana (she had tats on her neck) so sweet & good at her job. It was an amazing experience that everyone should try. It's such a relaxing place.

I was puffy prior to this whole spa experience, and way less puffy after. Still chubby, but less puff.

My visit started with a classic facial by Renee. She did a nice cleanse and a few other treatments while my hands were wrapped in warm paraffin. I was so relaxed I almost fell asleep, and my face was absolutely glowing afterward. Then I hung out in the lobby for a bit, waiting for my bath time. Then, to the old-fashioned elevator where you can see the floors as you pass up or down. The attendant operates it. I loved this old elevator, too, because I had not been in one of these. An attendant then took me to the locker room, where you lock up your clothes and turn around so they can wrap you up in a fresh white sheet. My bath attendant, Mattie, was awesome! If I heard right, she's worked there longer than anyone else. I think she said 45 years, and she's still moving people around, cleaning stations, and keeping everyone hydrated like it's nothing. I loved her demeanor and energy, nurturing, but stays on track, too. She started me off with a mineral bath soak and kept refilling my hot spring water. Then it was on to the hot pack area. I was hot, so she let me cool down with some ice water before wrapping me up in hot towels (legs out, cool towel on my head). Next was the steam cabinet, only your head is sticking out. It was quick but just right. After that, I went to the sitz bath, which was hot too, and I struggled to dip in, but did it. Finally, I relaxed in the lounge area until it was time for my massage. Cooper did a great massage, good pressure, just wish it lasted longer. Overall, this was such a cool way to enjoy the hot water, the bath house, and the spa experience like people did long before all the fancy gadgets and Botox. My skin glowed and my muscles felt like mush when I left.

Traditional and fabulous. Best $45 I've spent in a long time. Sweated out all the impurities and my pants were looser afterwards! Go.

Ask the Community - Buckstaff Bathhouse

Do you have to wear a mask while bathing due to covid restrictions?

You can take the mask off after the attendant leaves you, but otherwise face masks are required.

I plan on going with my 6yo son, are kids allowed to bathe and will they separate us? Even though I'm his mom, I'd rather not be separated.

I don't believe you can bring children under the age of 10 or 12. Its designed to be a relaxing experience for adults only. On my 2 excursions, there were no children and I recall reading something about no small children allowed.

Would an over weight person feel really self conscious?

I don't think so - your attendant drapes you with your back to her, the bath itself is totally private, as is sitz bath and steam bath (if you want it). There are multiple tables on which post bath and (separate) massage take place, again draped.… Read more

Imagine planning a relaxing getaway to Hot Springs, hoping to get an appointment for a bath at one…read moreof the legendary bathhouses, and after repeatedly calling and even visiting in person, you can but then you can't. This was our experience with the Quapaw bathhouse. We first tried to book online. Since I wanted to book both my husband and I, it was suggested that we call, so we did before our visit to Hot Springs. I expected to talk to a receptionist since we called in the afternoon during their regular business hours, but we got their voicemail. I left a message to please call us back so that we could book an appointment during our stay. After not receiving a call back after a day or two, we decided to visit in person once we got there. We waited in line at the Quapaw. I was excited because it looked so nice and relaxing inside. There were about 5 receptionists at a long counter, and after about 10 minutes one pulled us aside. We asked if there was any availability in the next couple of days while we were there. The receptionist looked iffy at first, then pulled up the information I had added when I tried to book online and told us she had a 2:30 open and blocked it off in their system for my husband and I. She was explaining to us who our masseuses would be, adding the kind of aromatherapy we liked, and that we needed to arrive ahead of time. As she went to swipe our credit card, she and another staff member started talking about our appointment. Apparently a staff member named J.J. overruled the time our receptionist blocked off for us seconds earlier and booked another couple that walked in behind us, but I guess J.J. was a faster typer? Maybe? We still don't know, because once she realized it was double booked we were told too bad, that's all they had, and nothing could be done about it. My husband and I looked at each other puzzled, like "what just happened"? So in essence, they booked us then canceled us. I even got a welcome email, then a cancellation email that I'm still scratching my head over. After pretty much saying "sorry, too bad" in front of the other people waiting in line, they all went back signing people in like we weren't even there. It was really awkward and not to mention a big disappointing let down. My husband and I left, stunned as to having an appointment, then not, not to mention the treatment after...and not really knowing what to do about it After talking about it, we decided to call to speak to someone about our experience, since maybe that was just a bad day. I've called, I've emailed, and I still haven't received anything back, not even an I'm sorry. My husband and I are on our way home, and we still haven't heard back from anyone at the Quapaw. I even waited to post this hoping we might. We got to do some really fun things in Hot Springs. The Quapaw experience or in a way "no" experience left us kind of down and not to mention kind of angry. Just so weird. I expected so much more than "sorry, bye", but that's exactly what it was. Fair warning to all.
